It seems I need to quash a rumour

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
SouthPark
As hinted at in posts prior to running on Saturday, May 31st was the last Dark Rhapsody for a little while as I will be putting it on hold. This break may be permanent, I don't know yet.

I'd just like to stress that I'm not being "forced out" by the venue. The management and staff of the Sly Fox hotel have always been very helpful and I have not received any indications at all from them that they do not want me to run there in the future. The new "no burnt CDs" rule there did have some bearing on my decision, but only played a small part - the main reasons for my putting things on hold are personal ones.

I'd just like to thank everyone who's helped and supported Dark Rhapsody - everyone who's contributed a set, designed a poster, come along to enjoy the night, and of course the Sly Fox people.

Dark Rhapsody may run again, but at this stage I can't promise it.

In need of an artist

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
SouthPark
I need someone to design posters/fliers for the next running of Dark Rhapsody in May. Since the club is free entry, I can't pay more than shouting you a couple of drinks on the night. I would need the designs by the end of the month to give me enough time to have them printed up before the next time Ascension runs.

Important Note Re: New Years Eve Celebrations

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
SouthPark
This is mostly for people coming to Dark Rhapsody this evening but also applies to party-ers in general ...

The Sly Fox managers asked me to let people know that the police have been dropping in to licensed venues a lot over Christmas, and it's expected they will do this same tonight. You all know what this means, I'm sure I don't need to spell it out. They're also making sure venues aren't serving people who are already intoxicated, so be prepared to be refused drinks if you get too squiffy.

Have a great New Year and I'll see you on the other side ...

X-posted.

September Setlists

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
SouthPark
It was a bit quieter than usual on Saturday night with not as a big a crowd as I've come to expect, but I'm told that other clubs also had similar smaller number, so it seems as if many just decided to have a quiet night in. Despite that it was still a very enjoyable night. My thanks to those who did come and especially to those that contributed a set.

The movies playing on the screen continued the vampire theme from last time, but with added cheese with Buffy The Vampire Slayer (original movie), The Lost Boys and Underworld.

And here are the setlists: )

Come August, Dark Rhapsody will have been running a year, which I'm mightily chuffed about. Now I'd like to get some feedback - which have been people's favourite sets? I've organised the poll below by date, with links to the posts for each set to jog memories, but don't feel constrained to cast one vote per night we ran. Perhaps there was a couple of really stand-out nights for you. On the other hand, please don't cast too many votes - the poll won't tell me anything useful then :)

June Redux and setlists

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
SouthPark
Well it was another fun night. Despite the cold and the competition from ABDX, the Nekromantix gig and the Midwinter Festival in Katoomba, we still managed to pull a very respectable crowd of both core supporters and curious newcomers. The covers theme went down well and the music and ambience was well appreciated, as were the background movies and the decks of cards scattered around the place :)

In keeping with the covers theme, the movies that were played were "covers" of the classic Gothic novel "Dracula" - the 1922 version "Nosferatu", the 1931 version with none other than Bela Lugosi, and the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola version.

Funny moment of the night was looking around when "They're Coming To Take Me Away" was playing and noticing that pretty much every single person in the place was singing along with it. Warms the heart, it does :)

And just before I post the setlists, a note that anyone who wants to do a set can let me know by commenting here or sending an email to bandiadudh-dr@yahoo.com.au. I still have some slots available for the September night at this stage, and that one will be back to a "normal" unthemed Dark Rhapsody. Could those who expressed interest to me on Saturday night please contact me, as I was unable to take down names or contact details for you.

And now for the sets: )
