Dancing Ferret Discs Closing

Dancing Ferret Discs Closing

I'm so glad to hear that Dracula's Ball, Nocturne, Digital Ferret and their Philly event promotions will continue. The bands they nurtured will play on, only their records will be sold by different labels.

I only met Patrick once, but have been extremely impressed over the years by his energy, dedication, integrity and ongoing enthusiasm.

Without amazing people like Patrick, I wouldn't have very many interesting things to link to or share with other goth folks.

This is a continuance and a beginning, not just an end. Thank you Patrick!

The Darklinks Lively Room - Google's Virtual Chat

Today I'm playing around with Google's silly Lively virtual chatroom. (You have to download a client for it to work). I of course picked a graveyard background scene and put a black dress on my paleskinned avatar. There's a lot of goth furniture in the catalog. No way to customize furniture or rooms yet for the average user; Google Lively is still in beta.

    Darklinks.com's Ning Network

I've deleted my old Ezboard forums, which I'd sadly abandoned long ago.

I'm very excited about the new Ning platform. You can use it to create your own entire social network. Each network can have its own discussion forums, groups, member profiles, etc. Not to be a control freak, but this will give me a lot more control over the way the groups and forums work. Way more so than Myspace.

I'll be looking for very experienced moderator volunteers (over age 21 please) with at least three years experience moderating well-known community forums. I can use all the help I can get to keep posts on topic, discussions flowing, and remove spam and troll postings.

I haven't done such a good job with my eBay groups, nor with keeping up with the Ezboard. I really want to be better about working daily on the Darklinks website and network both. I love doing it, and get frustrated when RL gets in the way of my favorite hobby! I definitely think this Ning network is a great way to meet the readers of my community. I can look at the traffic stats, but that doesn't tell me who you all are, you very patient souls who keep coming back despite my infrequent updates and dead links.

Please come visit me on the (so far very empty and skeletal) Darklinks Network:

    http://darklinks.ning.com/

You'll need a Ning profile to join the Darklinks network.

Darklinks.Com New Flash Games Link Page

Dark/Goth/Horror Online Flash Games is my newest links topic. I haven't really created a new topic in a couple years, since I made the Gothic Lolita links page.

I'm just starting out researching for good links (and playing all the games myself to test them) so for now there are just a handful of Halloween, horror, and zombie flash games.

Pick of the Month - Marion Peck Art

Marion Peck. Surreal art, reminds me of Mark Ryden, except Peck's children are more beautiful, with more soulful, realistic eyes. She paints dead Victorian children, big eyed children holding big-eyed animals, old-fashioned looking portraits of children and animals, cross-eyed nobility, and the occasional disembodied head. There's no overt blood and guts here, no skeletons, no wounds, just an overall sense of foreboding and freakiness. Subtle. I like it.

  • Igor (Official) - An animated film opening in fall 2008. Voice talents include John Cusack (who I worship), Steve Buscemi, Jennifer "MILF" Coolidge, Eddie Izzard, Molly Shannon, and John Cleese. For a second I thought this was a Henry Selick movie, but it's not. Still, it looks very, very entertaining.

    Darklinks.com New Goth Links Mid-January

  • Archaikus Radio - A goth radio station. There's also blogs, a forum, and chat area.

  • The Art of Darkness - I seldom find well-written, frequently-updated goth personal blogs that I like. This one by Cobwebs is very interesting and well done. She finds curious things such as knitted eyeballs. It's Halloween year-round here.

  • Carthedral - A 1971 Cadillac hearse modified to be a rolling Gothic Cathedral complete with flying buttresses, stained glass pointed windows, and gargoyles. Very cool. This is quite an old link that I never stumbled onto before today.

  • Collar Factory - A shop selling pre-made leather-studded collars. You can also order custom designed collars.

  • Control - The official movie site for the Ian Curtis (Joy Division) biopic, starring Samantha Morton. The DVD comes out on February 11.

  • Control - The movie trailer, at Apple.

  • Control (2007) - The IMDB page on the film.

  • Control - The Wikipedia entry on the Ian Curtis biography film.

  • The Creep Machine - A webzine covering alternative, underground, outsider, lowbrow or pop surrealism art. Much of the art here is quite dark. Interviews, articles, featured artists, and a gallery.

  • Dark Ellusions - An industrial/goth/electro night in Champaign, Illinois.

  • Dracula In Whitby - A traveler's guide to Whitby, from a Dracula fan's standpoint. History of Dracula in Whitby, accomodations, restaurants, Whitby weather, Dracula news, and goofy things such as Dracula Hangman.

  • GothVille - A dark/gothic music radio station. Also offers news, album reviews, and blogs. They use the term "darkscene" a lot which I find kinda weird - it initially made me suspicious this was one of those fake goth marketing sites. But lots of good stuff here.

  • Naoto Hattori - A surrealist artist's artwork and online store. It's not excruciatingly dark, but interesting enough I wanted to share it with you.

  • Nekromancy - An industrial/goth club night in Champaign, IL. They also have a Myspace.

  • Norsk Goth - Norwegian gothic forums.

Anne Owens Illustrations. Her goth girls often carry adorably shaped black parasols; she designs amazing acrylic skateboard decks; and does disturbing black and white sketches. My favorite is Mourning Cluster.
