7:17 pm - The synthetic dream foundation - "Behind the gates of horn and ivory"

rivetgirlie
The synthetic dream foundation has a new album, entitled "Behind the gates of horn and ivory" coming out at the end of this month. The sound clips on their site sound phenomenal. Anyone else had a chance to listen to the sample mp3s yet? I think this is going to be the best TSDF album yet.

10:59 am - We need to meet more parents....

ldygrinningsoul
The necessary introduction:

Location: Essex County, NJ (about 20 minutes outside the city)
Age: 27 and 37
Children: We have a 10 year old daughter and expect our son to arrive in late July

My husband and I spent a lot of time in the NY/NJ goth scene. We've settled down now with a house and a dog, and we don't really make it out on the town much anymore. We're trying to raise pleasant kids with open minds and a love of learning. I'd really like to meet some other parents who would be up for kid friendly outings to plays, museums, the planetarium, etc. It would also be nice to know some other people who weren't bored to tears by our adventures in parenting/needing to be in bed by 9:30 who would like to hang out and watch B-horror, or listen to punk/surf while BBQing.

Anyone else in here in the area and up for that? I recognized a couple of names on the membership from NYC Goth Outings, but I don't think y'all were parents 8 years ago when we met!

A local mom came up with this idea. She gets 10,000 bucks if her idea is number one. She says she'll use that money towards the parenting center and perhaps with that investment others in our city will start pitching in too. I know several parents in Portland who are struggling and could really use a resource like this.

3:06 pm - Name my dreads for a good cause?

viktoria33

I'm trying to raise some money for a poorly little boy who has osteosarcoma, a bone cancer that started in his leg but has spread to his lung. There's more info at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osteosarcoma for anyone wanting to know more about the disease.  He's only 8 (will be 9 on March 3rd which is the same day as my birthday) & is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

I've already asked friends and family who were planning on sending me a birthday card this year to send me a quid instead so that I can donate it towards buying him a portable DVD player & some DVDs or a laptop if enough money can be raised.

If you have any unwanted items I can eBay to raise  further funds then please email me at viktoriamalik@yahoo.co.uk

Or, if you have a couple of spare quid you could chuck this way then please leave a comment below letting me know whether you require my home address, paypal details or bank account details to send your donation.  (I'll screen the 'comments' for your privacy)

Finally, I'm giving people the opportunity to name my dreads for the bargainous price of £5.  For £5 you can name one of my dreads and I'll send you a photo' of it along with it's dimensions. If you can donate more that'd be fantastic, equally if you can't afford a fiver but would still like to name one please just make an offer. It's all for a good cause. :-) I have 32 dreads in total & they're coming up for a year old now. Please note that 5 have already been claimed & named. :-D
If you would like to name one please leave a 'comment' below letting me know how you would like to send your donation. (I'll screen the 'comments' for your privacy)

I am also offering people the opportunity to adopt a dread for £10 & there's currently 5 available.  For this you will get a photo', dimensions and a list of your dreads hobbies, interests and activities over the next 6 months.

I shall keep you guys updated as to how much has been raised and also what wonderous names have been chosen. Please let me know whether you would like to keep your identity anonymous.

Thanks.
x

10:00 am - Potty War Over?!

midnight_minuet

Potty training has been going fantastic! She’s constantly progressing now and she will come to me and let me know she has to go, and we’ll walk to the bathroom and she jumps out of her underwear and goes on the toilet. She’s done #2 once already in which she got a fake Halloween tattoo from Target for. We’ve been working on a little half sleeve, LOL! She’s so excited and has been modeling her tattoos in the mirror (I’ve caught her twice already). Every time she does progressively well throughout a day, she gets a sticker or tattoo. I don’t give her something –every- time she goes because I want her to know that as she continues to do so, she’ll get a little reward. She still wears diapers at night and if I go out to run errands, but she pretty much wears underwear all day. The only thing I did was monitor how much she drank, so I’ve been sitting down with her while she drinks her milk/watered down juice from her little cup (since she spills sometimes) and asking her to sit on the potty afterwards. I’m so proud of her! I thought I would post the progress incase anyone wants a tip or two in the future.

11:46 am - Potty Woes:

midnight_minuet

My daughter is two and a half years old. She was toilet trained before she was two, but after I had my son (who is four months old) she completely back stepped and now she is refusing to go on the potty! I don’t understand this since she absolutely hates having a soiled diaper and comes at me waddling and yelling, “I need a booty change”! Well, we decided that we’d just put underwear on her until she gets tired of peeing on herself (or I get tired of cleaning it up). Well, Sunday she went through 8 pairs of underwear and today she’s already peed in her pants twice. I know her muscles are developed because 1) She was trained before and 2) She’s stopped peeing midstream to finish on the toilet.

Is there –any- advice anyone can give or should we just continue to be persistent (since I know that is a key)? I’ve gone to the bathroom with her, she’s watched me, she knows what she needs to do she just wont do it purely because she, “just doesn’t want to”. It’s not in me to entice her with food or “treats” and she doesn’t think she’s a big girl because apparently I’m the big girl.

8:02 pm - Radio Golgotha - News & Upcoming Events

perseph101
It has been an incredible first month. We have had hundreds of unique listeners
tune in from as far away as Finland, Canada, Hong Kong and dozens from our home
base in Tampa, FL.  We are particularly happy to welcome out German visitors
which have made up almost 20% of our listenership. Now that we have stablized
some of the technical launch issues, we will continue to add to our library of albums
so that there will new music in rotation everyday including some smaller, but very
interesting regional talent.

We also have new sets from DJ Devious, Maus and DJ Xanthus set to premiere
next week. In the next few months, we'll continue this trend with the programming
shifting towards more Djs, more often. You'll hear club sets from England, Germany
and all over the US.

Thanks for your continuous support!!

8:36 pm - Asking for Models...

kakabel
*cough*

Errr..
hi.
I'm NOT a "dark parent", but I AM looking for "non traditional" Dads for an art show I have coming up in June at a London Gallery called The Arts Project.

I'm looking for candid photos of  Dads taking care of the kids.. cooking, feeding botles, cleaning, walking the stroller, stuff like that.

*siigh*
I'm not a "big name" artist who can PAY for models, but I will give you a 12x18 OR 8x10 ( you preference) print of the finished piece, and if your portrait doesn't sell, I'll let you have the option of buying it for the cost of the framing.
THe finished pieces are on 24" by 18" paper, and with matting and framing will be (roughly) around 36" by 24".
Since I'll be getting them framed "in bulk" there will be a discount on the framing. I jsut need to let them know how MANY sketches I'll be bringing to them.

THat said, I need all photos by April 30th. Please comment  if you wish to be included and I'll give you my e-mail to send the photos to.
Anyways, a sample of my work is behind the cut. Apologies for the poor quality of the photos, AND  to the group if this is against the TOU.
Thanks for your time!

I need some suggestions...

My 2 year old refuses to go to sleep.  Now I understand some resistance, but we are talking a battle spanning half the night and he often cries himself sick.  I've tried music, nightlights, bottles, pacifiers, stuffed animals, etc.  He doesn't have  a wubbie or lovlie he's attached to...My husband and I are extremely frustrated and no one in the house is getting sleep.

The past year has been a hard one.  Four family members have died in the past 5 months.  Since 2 of them were home hospice care, he was around for some of it.  This last week there was an accident at the daycare that landed him in the emergency room.  The doctor told me to expect setbacks due to all this stress...but he needs sleep if he is gonna heal...

Any ideas?  I need help!

(This is cross posted to some other parenting lists - I need all the help I can get!)

4:04 am - Black Velvet Baby Clothes...

angelovfaith
Just to spread the word, I have decided to start putting auctions up on Ebay of alot of Faith's black velvet and other cool clothing, also some Halloween stuff, which I am still updating. You can find some stuff really cheap, compared to the retailers. She's outgrown alot of stuff and I need to get rid of it, and the only reason I'm selling it is to pay for Preschool since there's zero support from her "Father" in any way. So please dont hate me for selling things instead of donating them, I've unfortunately become one of the needy now too thanks to his lack of care for our lives. But you can check out some of the ultra gothy baby clothes and stuff here...
