(Fall From Grace) [19 Jul 2008|11:53am] fairy It's been a few weeks. And crazy ones at that. Lydia celebrated her *fifth* birthday on July 9th (tomorrow is her party). She went to Kindergarten camp for four days to get her ready for kindergarten in August. And Steve spent a week in the hospital. He had Colitis and a blocked artery. He has follow up appointments this week to see what's going on. He's been getting pretty bad dizzy spells where his eyeballs tremble. My brother is in town and I need to get back to cleaning for tomorrow's birthday party. Just wanted to stop in and update with what's been going on

(1 Forsaken Soul | Fall From Grace) Saturday, blessed Saturday [19 Jul 2008|04:38pm] vylotte [ mood | good ] Anyone else happy for a weekend? Mmmmmmm. I had an epiphany regarding cleaning. I have three kids. Let's say they are awake 14 hours per day. 3 x 14 is 42 mess units. I am usually awake for 16. Even if I cleaned at a unit rate of 2, that's only 32 clean units. It's no freaking wonder I can't keep up! Bill and I took the kids to a Mariner's game last night. Oh my gosh did they have fun! It was a first for all us Wincek/Morrells, Bill is the pro. We were just exactly too late for the Ichiro (?) bobblehead dolls, but all angst disappeared when I announced that each kid could get a foam finger. Of their own! Glee, excitement, doling out of colors (because God forbid two kids have the same color)! And boy, they were the hit of the night. And the next day. I've been poked and prodded and pointed at and had things pointed out to me ever since. The fingers are now on their way with the kids to dad's house, because obviously things need pointed to there, as well! Of the three kids, Arielle had the best time. I was completely shocked at how much she got into it. Screaming, dancing, foam pointing, she asked many questions about the rules and was quite the pro fan by the time it was over. Isabelle jumped around and screamed and danced, then inevitably followed it up by, "did something happen?" Reno doubled his attention span by watching for at least an hour before he had eaten all his snacks, read his Garfield book and had moved onto the gameboy. We will definitely have to do it again sometime! Today my massive plans include watching B5 and cleaning the carpets. Then, later, reading. Woo! I need to quiet the din in my head with antisocial hermiting and possibly carbs. And to end the post, ( Memorial Day BBQ pictures and the Mariner's Game )

[20 Jul 2008|12:41am] morbidstar [ mood | ecstatic ] So I have been trying to get in contact with old lecturers from a number of Art colleges which I have attended and found one such lecturer has a facebook page. Now, I'm dubious about facebook pages dedicated to artists cus you never know if they actually EVER read them and I did leave a message on his actual actual page as you cannot request to add. This one said EX LECTURER is very famous in the art world for winning the Turner prize in 1993 and for a few years after. He won the first prize when he was still teaching me and a few others on my course. The lecturer in question is the one and only PETER DOIG!!! So now he's like elite and famous and lil old me was only a student of his back in 1992-1993 when I was studying FOUNDATION ART at Stourbridge College of Technology and Art. I tried the route through my old college but due to data protection they refuse to release contact details EVEN if you ask them to forward a letter on for you. So this is like a hope in hell's chance but I would rather fail trying than never try at all. He was my favourite lecturer as he gave you more then the time of day and learnt a lot from him so much so he really inspired me to go forward. So I didn't do a fine art degree and it was more interiors, textiles and now graphic design.........least it was something ARTY!! LOL

In that category, we have Paramount's new effort to produce Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel Dune. The film was a sincere effort by writer/director David Lynch, but it's remembered more for Sting's over-the-top "I will kill him!" than for any genuine cinematic excitement. Now, Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights) will direct what producers promise will be a more faithful telling of affairs on Arrakis. Meanwhile, it's generally a bad idea to remake a classic movie because an executive thought what once was good will be even better the second time around. Examples? Psycho. King Kong. Halloween. Planet of the Apes. Godzilla. We can only hope that Harvey Weinstein changes his mind about going ahead with a remake of Akira Kurosawa's early masterpiece, The Seven Samurai. Odd isn't it how the weather can effect your mood but it clearly did with mine and I've been in a rather irritated, miserable mood all day! HOT, COLD, MUGGY, WARM, COLD, FREEZING, MORE WARMISH, MORE COLDISH......BLOODY FREEZING!!!
