WASHINGTON (AFP) - Scientists from a US firm claim to have created a large number of red blood cells from human embryonic stem cells, opening up the prospect of having a limitless supply of blood for transfusions.

    Thank you.......
For all the supportive messages. Its a difficult time. I still dont know whether its the right thing to do but I guess time will tell on that one. Then again Im going on holiday on Monday so Im going to very distrated and not even really live life without him, so me thinks now probably wasnt the best time to do this, but I dont think either of us could take much more.

Im going to be around the mainline for a bit on Friday night just to see people. I dont have a ticket for Infest due to the impending holiday but it would be nice to see people. I dont want any tension so I understand if some of you want to feel loyal and not really be around me. Im hoping that Al and I can be civil if nothing else. Whatever the case, its going to be difficult for both of us.

Un-fucking-believable!!! You just aren't meant to win races like the 200m by half a second! Considering he's still at least 4 years off his athletic prime, you have to ask yourself wat sort of times is this guy going to be posting in 2012? Sub-9.6 for the 100m? Sub-19 for the 200m?

    Quick Infest question
Band order, anyone? Who's playing when? I've my 'must see' list as per usual, and have to allow for food/sit down/general chit-chat breaks! (Not getting any younger, y'see.) :-D

Am well and truly on the countdown!

    Pre-warning...
Before I forget... I pre-apologise for my behaviour at InFest. I've had a real tequila head on recently and I'm planning on getting a bit drunk. Not passing out, vomiting kinda drunk, but more than my usual 'slightly tiddly'... if you know me well you know I'm not much a drinker... 3 puts me under the table (4 puts me under anyone, ha haaa!)

The icon kinda sums up my InFest mood... just substitute 'peanut butter jelly' for 'tequila' and there you have it!

In case anyone hasn't heard (!), Music Non Stop is relaunching, yay! I've felt so out of the loop, music release wise, since it's demise. I've bought so few CDs, which is silly, it's not like I work far from Resurrection Records. But MNS was just so much easier, and I liked getting the email newsletters, so I knew what was coming out, even if I didn't want to buy it.

So hooray! Although I can hear my bank balance sobbing...

    'Music Non Stop is back!
After almost six months away from the scene Music Non Stop will be relaunching under new ownership at Infest! Grufti Limited has acquired the website and domains owned by Music Non Stop Limited and will trade using the same branding as before. The Internet store (www.musicnonstop.co.uk) will be live shortly afterwards on Tuesday 26th August, following the UK Bank Holiday.

The new owners were customers and friends of the business, and thought that Music Non Stop was too important to the alternative music scene to let it disappear without a fight. Grufti Limited aims to deliver the same high level of customer service and extensive product range as before, with the free newsletter service commencing soon for opted-in subscribers.

We look forward to seeing many of you at Infest.'

    A-choooo!
    Ug.

I emptied my wardrobe yesterday - some into a pile for work, infest and friday flock, most into a large cardboard box (easily filled - oops) and 3 whole items into the bin. I still have a how washing basket full of clothes that'll need sorting into these 3 piles and all the stuff in my chest of drawers. damn I have a lot of clothes - mostly crap and/or pvc :P

hadn't been looking forward to this as highly I'm allergic to dust and my face actually puffed up, my eyes were streaming and I sneezed so much and so hard that I've pulled muscles in my left shoulder.

moving house is not fun :( can you hire people to come in and riffle through your stuff and decide what you need to keep and pack it otherwise throw it away?

EDIT: in the marvellous tradition of all things annoying I've realised I have a hen to at the races next weekend and will therefore need presentable clothes for that. in a double whammy the clothes I thought most appropriate are at the bottom of the packing carton. arse.

    New start!!!!!
Well its been another long time in not posting anything on here and now I have been told by my better half I have to...... SORT IT OUT!

So here we go. Quick update for everyone that may not know. Was due to move down to that there Devon in the first quarter of this year to be with my then girlfriend (can you see where this is going?) Any road it didn't work out and so we split and I stopped up here. Now living with my parents in Harrogate, loving the cheap rent.

So with having lots of money now.... not, I'm going out more and going to so many gigs (19 to date).

So that's where my story begins. This weekend just gone me and my girly (who I've know for four years) went off to Beached Festival in Scarborough. The weather wasn't too bad other than Sunday morning when we were due to leave, that's when my car finally started!!!! Anyway the variety of bands were good especially Glamour of the Kill and Imma.

Then spent the last two days spending some time with my lovely lady before she heads off to Infest and I go off to Leeds Festival.I am gonna miss Infest again but I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of bands I have wanted to see for years at Leeds.

Anyway won't go on and on so I'll post again soon before I get another telling off, hopefully with some 'dj' updates :)

    Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee............
Yup, I'm back on my bike and what a way to start the day.

And the forecast says it should be dry this afternoon, so I might cycle all the way home. And I've got a wee beginners jog round the park organised with one of my colleagues at lunch time. Welcome back, exercise - hello, endorphins......

Tyranids in Dawn of War II [August 19, 2008, 2:14 pm ET] -
The Dawn Of War 2 Community Website has news about plans to include Tyranids in Dawn of War II, Relic's upcoming Warhammer 40,000 real-time strategy sequel (thanks Dagok). The update offers a screenshot illustrating their contention that this was only possible thanks to their new game engine:
Nothing makes us more excited and happier to let you in on the secret we’ve been hiding (and working so hard on) for so long. And not only are we letting you in on the secret, we are letting you in first!

The Tyranids are in Dawn Of War II!

For us, the Tyranids was a way to give the fans something they have been asking for ever since Dawn Of War… but it wasn’t until we designed the Essence 2.0 Engine did we think that the Tyranids could be brought to the Dawn Of War universe they way that we felt we could do them justice and in the way that the fans deserve. The Tyranids are a great way for us to bring something new and different to the franchise… a completely different race which operates unlike any other seen in Dawn of War to date.

“Each Tyranid is a living weapon, perfectly adapted to its designated function, but each creature is no more than a single cell in a galactic entity governed by a monstrous Hive Mind. As the Tyranid hive fleets drift through space they strip all life from the worlds in their path, leaving nothing but scoured rock in their wake…

"Michael Goldfarb of the John McCain campaign oddly disses gamers in his post yesterday on the John McCain blog."
It may be typical of the pro-Obama Dungeons & Dragons crowd to disparage a fellow countryman's memory of war from the comfort of mom's basement, but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others.

uh, so McCain's staff is bashing gamers?!

    post number 2
I thought i'd put the more mundane things here and have the serious changes in a seperate post, so here's to the other stuff:

Saw 'Samuari Spirit' on Saturday which was amusing and caught up with Grieg, Stacy and Jack for a while. For my sins I skipped the music event at the forest cafe but I was fairly knackered at that point. Got good nights sleep and forced myself out for a ride in the morning to make sure I was either fit and healthy or dead. Later on due to fatigue I saw the Mummy 3 (y'know, the one in China) which was entertaining. Overall it was an entertaining weekend but neither Samurai or Mummy managed to live up to the hype, alas.

Monday decided to go see the doc about my vague symptoms who then confirmed to me that they where indeed, quite vague. Anything from a viral infection to a thyroid problem but given today's well being I go with the past two weeks having been a viral infection i've fought off.

So now that i'm well and enthusiastic about Infest i'm looking forward to September :)

On Sunday we ran a production line for 16th Century style shirts.

We made the first one up individually and then boil-washed it to check levels of shrinkage.
Having established that the [info]original_aj size had not been converted to a Younger Daughter size by the application of hot water, it was then safe to proceed with general manufacture of a batch of said shirts.
I pleated and pinned, while he operated the treadle sewing machine.
Remarkably speedy job compared to the previous one. I suspect that having developed a technique for pleating helped too.

Dont misunderstand me I'm not getting soft , all I want is a couple of days off
I've been living down South for too long, I'd forgotten all about Scottish Bank Holidays differing so much from the English ones. Edinburgh University don't acknowledge the August bank holiday, instead I get Monday 15th September off. I can only assume that this is a local bank holiday, still the way the weather's been lately it'll make bugger all difference. They're a little odd about Easter too, they give Easter Friday off but not the Monday, instead they give a local holiday that falls on the third Monday in April, however if you ask you can swap that for Easter Monday.

Female Models needed for test shoot
    Hey everyone,

As some of you may have noticed that I placed a casting call for a music video.

I'm NOT in charge of casting or organizing the event. You can reach the director for more info. PLEASE do not contact me about this. I stepped down and decided to focus on what I do best, putting together outfits and making tea.

We're having our first test shoot this Wednesday! Let Anton know if you're available. Please forward your website/portfolio link for consideration. You can reach him at anton@astralelements.com.

Thank you for your time and interest. I hope to see you there on Wednesday! :)

    The mad hatter,
    Arlene
