What happens when you get ICP and Dr. Tran together - mass hysteria!... )

mseuphrates @ 11:18pm: Dr. Tran...in your pants!!
For Scott Woods (and anyone who's ever caught the three of us yelling "Toystore!" whenever we're excited about something). *grin* I have a feeling "in your pants!" is gonna join the repertoire... I just can't stop hitting <on> little boys!... )

The broadcast from Channel 5 NBC from last year, and yes, they simulcast on the radio... ) For those who'd like to play along at home (and trust me, it's *totally* worth it), you *should* be able to watch this year's WEBN fireworks extravaganze live (while WE are down there on the river watching it, who knows you may just see Kitminx's grin) because they'll simulcast it in streaming vidio on the WEBN website (I've never tried it, so I can't totally vouch, but I know I've heard they do it):

mseuphrates @ 8:12pm: Bastard Love Poem, as performed last night at Wet Ink
I need to edit (or, more accurately, figure out how to edit) the video I got of the bellydancing last night.
But THIS needs no editing (though I need a tripod. Srsly). He *totally* nailed it.
Of all the times I've heard him do this poem, I'm glad last night's performance is the one I got on tape.

Enjoy!

mseuphrates @ 8:00pm: Proof that Kitminx's kids are real
After an epic adventure involving an overbooked Greyhound bus that required a second busload, a bus-change in Indianapolis that was total fail (since the bus driver didn't wait for said second busload to arrive before he took off), a kindly bus driver who took pity on our beleagured travelers and got them all the way to Dayton, and our intrepid moms dodging McCain supporters and traffic snarls to bring said travelers from Dayton home to Cincinnati...)

Yeah, they're currently crashed out.
But there here!! *does happy dance*

duskpeterson @ 11:19pm: Tropical Storm Gustav and New Orleans
As some of you may have heard, Tropical Storm Gustav may soon return to hurricane status. According to the National Hurricane Center, one of its possible goals is New Orleans, a major location for leather and BDSM clubs. A report posted on the Leather Titleholders list from a local leatherman indicates that the city is busy in preparations for a possible landfall by Gustav.

The latest news is that, since Gustav isn't scheduled to reach the U.S. this weekend, the New Orleans gay festival Southern Decadence is still scheduled. If New Orleans is badly affected by the storm, [info]truetales will do its best to keep people informed, as it did three years ago through its Hurricane Katrina Report.

Two good sources of New Orleans news: NOLA.com and WWLTV.com.

I sent this to my boss in e-mail today.

Subject: Anniversary Date

Don't know if you realize (and I don't know how I remember after all this time), but today marks 14 years for me at 5/3.
Wow. Freaky.
I know you've been here a LOT longer. I just thought it was pretty cool.
Never expected it to be more than a couple of years, honestly.
Amazing.

Check out his response.

I should be more accountable for anniversary dates, however, I have a hard time remembering my own with my wife.
Ask her. :)

Seriously this is certainly a milestone and congratulations. I'm very pleased to have you on my team and hopes of keeping you for years to come.

Every now and then, no matter how much you want out...it's still nice to be appreciated.

Sounds like a line from an Over The Rhine song, doesn't it?
Yeah, that's what *immediately* came to my mind when I saw the poster for this at the Boon County Library when we saw Ellery play there last year.

Somehow, though, I'm betting they didn't get Karin to write the score (though they should have). :D Parciularly since it's about Kentucky, not Ohio.
Still cool, though.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

so, the HHS (that's Heath and Human Services) released a proposed regulation that could hurt women's access to birth control and emergency contraceptives.

The public has 30 days to respond and let the Bush administration know we think this is a bunch of crap.

Please go here and submit your comments:
https://secure.aclu.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=999&page=UserAction

For those of you not in the know, the HHS wants to define contraceptives as abortions, in order to protect the doctors who don't want to give out birth control. The HHS does not care about the possibilities of BC being used to benefit a women's cycle...they only see it as prevention of a pregnancy.

If you want to read the full HHS document, it's here:
http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/emailphotos/pdf/HHS-45-CFR.pdf

Here's a blog post that explains parts of the proposal:
http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2008/07/15/hhs-moves-define-contraception-abortion

You also can sign a petition headed by Hillary Clinton here: http://www.hillpac.com/action/hhspetition/

and read about her opinions here:
http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2008/07/21/an-outrageous-attempt-bush-adminstration-undermine-womens-rights

Please pass these links around! Get the word out that we need to let the HHS know what they are doing sucks! How many of us originally went on birth control pills because we were having problems with our cycle and only consider the fact that it prevents pregnancy a secondary benefit? I know I do! If I wasn't on BC, I would never be able to predict when my period was happening, and I'd be bed ridden for at least two days because I wouldn't be able to move my legs from the pain. I know a lot of you had been in similar situations. And men? Sign your name on behalf of your girlfriend, wife, sister, or friend. We NEED access to birth control.

mseuphrates @ 3:40am: Spreading the word - Catch this THIS WEEKEND

I don't know that we'll make any of the showings, but I wanted to spread the word to everyone on my FList who has any heart for woman-centered birth and pregnancy care - this show is supposed to be phenomenal. Please try to make it if you can - proceeds support Birth and Beyond (which is what Midwives Care Birth Center became after they had to shut down due to rising insurance costs), an organization that promotes women's advocacy and childbirth rights in Ohio and around the world.
