Oh my God.

Oh Danny. Oh Derek. Oh Mr. Sweeney. Oh stupid screaming former girlfriend of Derek's.

Someone needs to... damn. Write some fan fiction for this movie. The editing was perfecto, and the characters just unbelievably heart-breaking.

Cut for Spoilers )

wild thing, you make my heart sing. [Aug. 30th, 2008|12:14 pm]

Happy birthday, my darling Junnosuke. Sometimes I wish the term 'Jun-baited' applied to my personal fandom situation, but I used to think you were A Total Girly Man, mainly because I first saw you on the reverse side of a Yamapi poster. And you were wearing sparkly eyeshadow and your hair looked like it was jealous of Shirley Temple's, and the background was lilac and you were wearing fluffy cashmere. So yeah, I didn't give you a second thought. I went back to the Pi side.

But that's all in the past (even though every time I see that poster I still laugh), and now I love you, alot, even though your hair is in a constant state of metamorphasis. I think I love you the most when you are Miss Bitch, because your eyebrows go funny and you get this look on your face that screams, "Girl, oh NO you diiiiiiiiin't!" and that makes me laugh, or I think maybe I love you the most when you're with Aiba, because it's very cute when you think he's stupid. Or your 'MAJI DE?' moments, or your giggles, or your 'I-can't-believe-I'm-doing-this' faces, or your 'Girl, I am SO HOT, I am a SEX GOD' faces, because those are hilarious. I love them all.

And, okay, sometimes you look hot. But most of the time I just wanna pinch your cheeks really hard until you throw me across the room and give you an A- for effort.

So instead of going on about how you are a special boy in my heart, I channeled it through Aiba by writing ~fic~. I know it's supposed to be porn because I initially promised (who? answer: myself) that I would write birthday porn for each of Arashi on their special days, but the PWP I was writing and planning to use today-- the Sho/Jun used-to-be-my-math-notes one--has spiraled out of my control. Instead, I wrote something else that is not sexy, but sappy. OH WELL. So you get your cake here, but you have to eat it somewhere else.

There's no title, and it's sort of Aiba/Jun, Jun/Arashi, Aiba/Arashi and Arashi/Arashi all in one, however vague each one may turn out to be in the fic. Whatever it really is, it's definitely sappy enough to melt all 32 (or if you got four pulled like I did, then 28) of your teeth. :D  :D More summary: late-night voicemails, Aiba is probably crying, mention of Jun's 20th birthday, and Ohno says inappropriate things to the cheese.

eat the cheese, don't throw it at me--hey! )

Tomorrow I'll be in Charlotte until Sunday night, so when I get back maybe I'll have recuperated enough to talk about school and life and the horrible college application process--and my new friend who is a sweetie, and also Jack McFarland. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not.

Per NPR, it looks like Sarah Palin scrubbed her own Wikipedia entry yesterday, to make it more complimentary.

Things I accomplished today in lieu of going to work:

1) Discovered a bug bite right above my belly button (how? why? how?)

2) Thoroughly cleaned the apartment, exposing surfaces that haven't been exposed in months (my table, my desk, the floor next to my desk...)

3) Did two loads of hand washing.

4) Changed my idea on the sound for the next play, found examples of the new idea, and played them for the director, who approved. Thank goodness--the old idea wasn't nearly as interesting, but I hadn't been inspired yet.

5) Took the cat to the vet for the weekend (my apartment feels very empty right now)

6) Was treated to an extremely schmancy pedicure by my mother

7) Spent some money I shouldn't have on knitting needles I've been wanting (I remained untempted by yarn only because they didn't have what I was looking for)

8) Bought reading material for the flight

9) Took an LSAT prep test (my logic game progress seems to have gone out the window, but I did well on everything else--good thing I was already planning to drill logic games for the next week)

10) Watched last week's Mad Men, finally.

Also, I think I was asked out by the new guy at one of my theatres. I had to say no--it was for a specific event this weekend, and I'll be out of town--but I think I managed to come across as potentially interested. (Potential is all it is at the moment, but I'm not uninterested.)

The spousage opined the following nugget just now:

Someone should ask Sarah Palin if she'd be willing to accept just 70% of the VP salary. Seeing as how McCain opposed the bill that would have provided equal pay for women.

DNA testing uncovers suspect sushi
From Christina Chinnici
CNN

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Two teenage girls used DNA bar coding to determine that some sushi on New York dinner plates was mislabeled with cheaper fish being passed off as a more expensive species.

Results show that half of the restaurants and six of 10 grocery stores sold items that were mislabeled.

A photo essay: flowers and waiting rooms [Aug. 29th, 2008|04:45 pm]

Kitten

Mens' PTSD clinic waiting room: After three years, this is the first time I've seen this place.

The Womens' Center waiting room: toys. Because, you know, men don't have kids. Or care for them. Oh, wait, men have women to do that for them!

Magazines at the Mens' PTSD Clinic waiting room. Men never have kids or care for them, it seems.

Magazines at the Womens' Center: Parenting. Womens' Day. What the hell does womens' center even mean? Day care and fashion? Parenting? Girlie stuff? What it means is one little area in the VA isn't devoted solely to men. Look, here's proof:

Here's womens' service in the military: teddy bears and Barbie dolls. In uniform. And there's no recognition that women are serving in the war that's going on right now. They'd no doubt put a desert camo teddy bear in there.

Dusty photos from the Second World War. In fact, the most recent reminders of womens' service you'll find here are of the Viet Nam war, nurses, who were non-combatants.

I could go on, but frankly, just looking at this stuff makes me pissed. It's been three years, and I've just been referred to the Nightmares Study for the first time. The first time. Am I pissed?

Here's some morning glories to finish.

Crazy Busy Like Whoa [Aug. 29th, 2008|03:28 pm]

Today was the uni's annual activities fair. As usual, I signed up for about eight billion things. I'm going to see how it goes, but in undergrad I was happiest when I was doing 3 kinds of dance as well as martial arts, two choirs, and the TV station. So I'm going to see if it works again now, and if having more things to do will make me more productive.

So I signed up for: social dance (mainly East Coast swing), women's rugby, linguistics club (because they're all my friends anyway and I already go to their movie nights), and karate (which actually seems a lot like Tae Kwon Do). In addition to belly dance, flamenco, the radio show, English Corner, D&D, possibly TA-ing a class again, and of course my actual work.

However, I did chicken out of visiting Hillel's booth AGAIN. Every semester, I say to myself, I should at least ask. I'm sure they're very nice and won't care about a mostly-goy coming along to further her Jewish education. But every semester, I chicken out. :( Frustration!

In other news:
I'm taking a class that has math in it! Lots of math! Actually, that's all it is so far. Really rigorous mathematical derivations of the stuff I've been working on. Like, starting from Maxwell's equations, get the dispersion relation for a TE mode parallel plate waveguide.

This is like eight kinds of awesome. I didn't realize how much I missed *doing math* once I stopped taking classes.

So, I am at the nail salon this afternoon with Mrs. [info]drewshi
We are waiting for our toes to dry and I happen to hear these two soccer moms talking about how pleased they are that Senator McCain has picked a woman as his running mate.
I stupidly turned to them and said that this is the woman who wants to take polar bears off the endangered species list and drill Alaska dry.  One of them turned to me and said that she's OK with that b/c it would bring down gasoline prices (probably for her SUV).
I said I'd rather look for alternative energy sources.
Fortunately, the waxing room was ready, and got up to get my eyebrows waxed, so the conversation didn't get too ugly.

Hair-brained scheme??? Maybe not.
