29th-Aug-2008 11:27 pm - No you are not hallucinating. Daisuke did go 8 innings and didn't walk anybody
Dice rolled himself a hell of a game tonight as the Red Sox shut out the White Sox 8-0. He pitched 8, yes 8, shutout innings and basically kicked all kinds of ass and only gave up 2 hits. Great outing from the Dice man. It's also well needed because Tampa obliterated the Birdos(not that I would've expected much to begin with...Balty is Balty, you take what you can get). Pedroia was being his badassed self collecting 4 hits and basically showing how awesome he is through hits and glovework. Bay had the big hit with a 3-run double. That was really good to see. Papi had 3 hits and drove in 2 of the 8 runs himself. It's great to see him do so well too. There was even Mark Kotsay pitching in with an RBI of his own. It was a great effort tonight that made me wicked happy to see. Good good stuff, mang.

Anyways as for more baseball related matters, I was watching a bit of NESN's pregame show and they had an interview with Paul Byrd and holy fuck is Paul Byrd like giddy to be here. It's like at Eric Hinske in 2007 levels. He was like "I LOVE TO PLAY BASEBALL! THESE GUYS LOVE TO PLAY BASEBALL TOO!!! OMG AWESOME!!!" and it was pretty cute in a weird weird way. I just got a real kick out of that. Also in other awesome news, Micheal Bowden is making his MLB debut(news broken by ProJo because ProJo is basically pwning all the Boston area newspapers in scoopage. RI FTW!) but anyways that's gonna be really exciting to watch tomorrow night. Yay youngins!

Oh and that Byrd interview is after the cuttage here

Byrd is smitten like a kitten? )
29th-Aug-2008 08:26 pm - Chuck Versus the Premiere
I totally got tickets to this and when I told my dad he said he'd come with me since he doesn't like me going up to L.A. on my own. I hope they show Chuck first. I could watch Life, it's an enjoyable show. But I don't care about Lipstick Jungle and I doubt my dad does either even though he likes Brooke Shields.

We may lose our internet for a few days tomorrow. We're canceling the AT&T cable service and currently it's linked to our router. DirecTV comes in tomorrow to install the new receivers and re-activate service. Dad's going to re-activate the previous router we had on his own. No telling how that's going to go. He once tried to fix the kitchen faucet and the kitchen then flooded. So, we'll see. My worry is that the router is attached to the desktop computer and that currently does not have a working monitor. So hopefully I don't lose the internet.

I'm very excited to announce we have prompts for over 20 fandoms including television, movies, comics, soap operas, and crossovers. Please check out the prompts and write (or vid, or icon/art, for that matter) away. You can post whatever you do in a reply to this post. Please write the subject like this: Fandom, Pairing, Rating. That way when we're all done I can make a masterlist.

The end of summer drabble-a-thon is officially on from now until 12 noon EST Tuesday.

29th-Aug-2008 09:54 pm - '' Fire bad. Tree pretty.''
Geez, this is why this place is so frequently abandoned. Before I even realize it it's been two weeks since my last post.

Right now, I'm trying really hard to fight the urge to close my eyes. I've reached a level of total mental incapacity. Although I told myself that I'd been paying attenttion to class, which meant I wouldn't have to study so hard today, it didn't keep me from spending my entire afternoon studying biology. If you think about it, I didn't spend half the time I spent studying for the previous bio test, but still five hours beats the hell out of my week's average. Specially because the other subjects involved exercises and math, which is fun.

I can't barely even form sentences about what I just studied. It's all a total mess in my mind, and random words keep popping up. Oh, what the hell. I'm sure once I get a few hours of sleep everything will just fall back into place.
Before I leave, I just need to ask something. I've just begun watching CSI and I've been catching daily reruns and they just started rerunning season 6. (It's so weird. I had in my mind that Warrick had been married since ever.) Anyway, on that subject.. can anyone explain why Catherine reacted so weirdly about him getting married? Because what I got was that she had a crush on him. Is that right? (There's a couple I would NEVER imagine).

Great weekend for you.

29th-Aug-2008 06:59 pm - "We are better than these last eight years."
From Obama's nomination acceptance speech:

"But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the naysayers don't understand is that this election has never been about me. It's about you."

And this is just wow:

"America, we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done. Not with so many children to educate, and so many veterans to care for. Not with an economy to fix and cities to rebuild and farms to save. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. America, we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone. At this moment, in this election, we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let us keep that promise -- that American promise -- and in the words of Scripture hold firmly, without wavering, to the hope that we confess."

*tears*  This election is making me uncharacteristically emotional.

For some reason I couldn't get the actual video to embed correctly into my LJ (ugh!!!) so below are links to CNN's video of Obama's speech. He spoke for about 45 minutes...apparently so long that CNN.com had to break it up into two parts.

part one
 and part two.

You can also read the full text of his remarks here at CNN.com.
29th-Aug-2008 05:43 pm - The World and I Today = Not BFFs
God I am so fucking ripshit today. I was crapped on by everybody today, forced to train a new girl because nobody else wanted to do it, and basically was stuck at work till 4:30pm because I had to pick up the slack for everybody else. I'm okay if it was like newbies or wahtever but this was pseudo manager who just got demoted who did this. He basically made me train the girl and made me answer the phone for all the call-in orders and made me basically do everything. I'm really disappointed and upset because I've never pulled any shit like this on him when I did absolutely nothing. He fucking walked all over me. Now you see, I will do stuff for people who won't take advantage of me and walk all over me. But once you pull that shit with me, then you're off my fucking bus. See if I do anything else for you again. I'll do things for the people who haven't walked all over me but NEVER for anybody who does. Maybe I shoudl just not show up to work on Sunday...but then again I do need the money and I don't wanna get fired. so yeah that sucks.

Anyways, Beckett was put on teh DL but it looks like it doesn't look as horrible as it seems. It sounds like the DL move is just pure procedural stuff and that Beckett's elbow is structurally sound. I get the impression that it's just a case of dead arm. At least this is what I'm hoping for the sake of my sanity and the sanity of other Red Sox fans around me. So anyway's tonight's game is some more Sox on Sox action. With playoff implications for both teams at stake here, it'll be interesting to see how this fares. The Sox of Crimson need to mantain their lead in the Wild Card(note: I'd love to win the division, but I just wanna get there first and foremost) while the Sox of Bleach need to win to maintain their AL Central lead. So it's an interesting conundrum. I'll be out and about for a good chunk of the night too since my friend decided that hanging out last night wasn't a good idea and tonight is much better. Yeah she can be a bit of a bitch. So anywayyysss, that's all I got for now. I'm gonna go snack on my sammich and see if my friend is up for hanging now. Later.

29th-Aug-2008 09:31 am - Killing Machine
So as you all know by now I've been playing Assassin's Creed a lot...I mean A LOT!! In the last 12 hours alone I've unlocked 4 achievements in the thing, most of which having to do with killing an ass-ton of guards just for the hell of it. Seriously...most of the time I don't necessarily HAVE to kill them, but I do anyways simply because I hate them watching me and forcing me to "blend" which makes me slow as hell. At one point, in the kingdom, you chould follow my path from Jeruselum by the sheer number of dead bodies strone in my wake. Fun.

I FINALLY changed my oil last night, it only took me an extra month and a half to do it too. That's procrastination for you. At least this time it went much smoother than the past few tiems, minimal oil spilt on the driveway and I was able to avoid buying new oil by using leftover oil from past changes. Yays for being a cheap bastard!

I watched FLUBBER last night, and it continues to amuse me even after all these years. The great thing about this movie is that this was just before Robin Williams started to move from goofy, lovable comedian to overacting, over-the-top, Jim Carrey-esque freakshow. Don't get me wrong I love both Robin and Jim but now a days everything they do it just WAY too over-the-top to be enjoyable and is instead just plain annoying. Take HORTON HEARS A WHO for example...ugh.

Today I leave early from work due to my trip, my boss is awesome like that. I have yet to decide as to whether or not I'm going to take myself out for dinner and prowl the local walmart or just go straight home for some more Assassin's Creed action and Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. Decisions, Decisions.

I guess I could always do both :D
28th-Aug-2008 11:24 pm - *kicks life*
Sorry I haven't been around much despite 24/7 internet access. School is kicking my butt and I haven't even had real homework or started my second job. I should have been/be reading chapters in books tonight, but I just can't force myself to. UGH.

As you can see though, I did get the layout reverted to The History Boys as XF2 has come and gone. If I don't get called into work this weekend, I'm going to write up a review on The Shrine. I think I'll skip the first 5, but The Shrine is too amazing to pass up. And maybe I'll get that fic up...
28th-Aug-2008 09:31 pm - Off for vacation!
This journal will be on vacation for the next 10 days (thank GOD).

Going with the Significant Other to meet his parents and assorted family in Michigan. Wish me luck!

(Those of you at Dragon*Con, have tons of fun for me!)
28th-Aug-2008 10:34 pm - Randomness....
Anyone going to watch the new 90210?  Anyone brave enough to raise their hands and admit it?  I'm going to watch it!  If only out of curiosity to see Brenda and Kelly.   And the really hot young jail bait guys don't hurt either.  :)  But I am kinda excited for it.  It's going to bring in a new era of bitchiness.

So Monday Gossip Girl is back with new episodes!  I have spoiled myself to the point of no return for at least the first episode.  :)  Tuesday is 90210 and Wednesday brings the 2 hour season premier of Bones!  TV is back my friends.

I bought the second season of Heroes on DVD.  I'm worried about watching it though cause the bits I caught on TV last season where nowhere near as good as the first season.  There are no Peter/Claire scenes!  Season 3 looks to be back on track so I have to catch up on what went down last season first.

Almost every song on my IPOD reminds me of Chuck and Blair from GG.  And yesterday I found that I had the song "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something on there, it came out the year I graduated high school I think so '95.  Everything gets related to Chair sooner or later.

I'm SO ginormously happy that we have Monday off for Labor Day.  I need an extra day to be one with the couch.  We had really bad wheather here this week.  We have had a drought all summer, they said that need 19-25 inches of rain to fix it.  We got about 6 inches Tuesday and Wednesday.  And tornado's.  Lots of trees down.  Big mess.  Had to put all of the kids in the tornado lockdown for over 2 hours at work.  That was fun.  And needs to happen like NEVER again!

Have a great weekend friends!
28th-Aug-2008 07:02 pm - Dems '08!
I realized that it's now been two weeks since I did an honest to goodness post. Egads. I blame the Olympics. The glorious, wonderful, exciting and xantastic Olympics. So since it's been a while, I'm going to do a bullet list. Not that much actually happened.

• The Olympics. I miss them. Was Beijing the best Olympics ever? It's entirely possible. China was a great host and I found the sportsmanship on display to be absolutely inspiring. I teared up more than once. It's something I can only begin to imagine, what it must be like to be there for that grand event. Those people train for so long to make it to that point and there it is. It's certainly nothing I could ever accomplish. There were so many highlights of these games I cannot even begin to list all of them.

First and foremost, a young man I enjoyed the heck out of starting four years ago and continue to enjoy so much it makes me darn right giddy. Yep, Michael Phelps. I literally jumped out of my bed and jumped into the air when he got his gold medal.

The entire US swim team as a whole. We've always had a close group that has a great relationship with each other but it seemed to be even more present this year. They were all on each other's side, rooting for everyone to do their best.

An enormous amount of team spirit seemed to be present over the games this year with various athletes attending events that weren't even theirs just to take part and cheer on their fellow Team USA members.

Despite the controversy surrounding gymnastics I think everyone involved did an admirable job of not paying attention to the controversy and questions surrounding their sport. They rose above it all and did beautifully. And even though I was definitely rooting for Nastia Liukin in the All Around, I am so pleased that Shawn Johnson got herself a gold medal. I'm sure we'll see her in London, barring disaster. Jonathan Horton as well. He's a good guy, good athlete and you could certainly tell he was having a ball.

Seeing the US track relay teams rebound after the disaster in the semis was nice, as well (what happened, Tyson Gay?!). They had such enormous pressure on them not to drop the blasted baton.

While I previously enjoyed beach volleyball during the Olympics it wasn't until the trials this year that I really began to get into it and now it's one of my favorite summer Olympic events. Maybe it's due to how awesome it is to watch Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor basically annihilate everyone else. Yet they remain genuine, they know they have to work hard and they know they have to earn those gold medals.

I found opening ceremonies more impressive than closing. But the sound seemed a bit off during closing. Either way, I don't think Leona Lewis should ever sing Whole Lotta Love ever again.

I miss the Olympics. Monday at 8PM I went to sit down and watch them and then stood in front of the TV wondering what to do since there were no Olympics. I now eagerly await 2010 and 2012. Luckily the Olympians are still in the spotlight a bit. I've watched Nastia Liukin on Leno, Misty and Kerri on Letterman and tonight will probably watch Natalie Coughlin on Leno and Aaron Peirsol on Conan O'Brian. It's nice the Olympics are still around a bit. And there's still Oprah's Olympic-palooza on September 11th!

• We went to a baseball game on Sunday afternoon. The Angels played the Minnesota Twins. The Twins scored early in the 1st inning and then it was 3 - 1 for the Twins and the Angels didn't really do a whole lot until the 7th inning. Then we won, it was a good game. When dad and I got there they were playing The Sweet Escape over the sound system. The Sweet Escape seems to be a good sporting event song as it is also played at hockey games and beach volleyball tournaments. When I heard it I mentioned to dad that it was Gwen and he asked where as apparently he thought I'd seen her in person and he did not feel it was that far fetched as she is from Anaheim. I told him that I did not see her as she recently had a baby and also if I had I would have been more excited. I know this having seen her previously.

• Had a weird moment last night. I bought some new red hand towels for the bathroom. Dad and I were talking about how when we moved out here and mom decided to decorate the house in red it was hard to find things in red. So hard mom painted and decorated many things on her own. This is how we have a red paper towel holder and red light switch plate covers. Anyway, when I told dad how easy it is to find red now he said that mom would be in heaven and then realized what he had said and then we both got kind of quiet.

• Registration for the winter semester at school opens on October 1st. So, I'm pretty sure the morning of October 1st I'll be going down to school and registering for classes and making appointments to meet with a counselor to map out a plan for me and take my assessment tests. I'm nervous. I haven't had to think for school since I graduated from high school seven years ago. And even then, I didn't really have to do a whole lot of studying and whatnot in high school. Just with math classes and chemistry (because that's basically science with a whole lot of math). Everything else I could do just by paying attention in class. So, needless to say, I'm a little rusty. I'm nervous. But it's time to get started with my life. What also makes me nervous is that when I used to try and go to school while still taking care of mom I was only ever able to finish one class. I know I'll feel better after finishing one semester. Then I'll know I can do it.

• Nothing looks terribly interesting as far as fall TV goes. Nothing new, that is. It feels weird getting back into the habit of a regular TV season after the strike. It hasn't been normal, really, for all of 2008. Isn't that weird? I am most looking forward to Chuck, The Office and FNL. I am really, really looking forward to Chuck. It must be pretty awesome (totally the adjective of choice for Chuck) for NBC to order the back nine without the episodes airing but on the merit of the six episodes filmed already. I redid the episode guide for the fanlisting and that got me excited for it as well. I hope Ugly Betty can be a bit better than last season. I still loved last season, I just know they can do better and hope they do. The promo looks promising.

• For the first time in years I don't find anything worth tuning in for on All My Children. It's sad. I really think they should kill off Ryan Lavery. He's been dull for years and frankly, I think they'd get more story out of his death than his life and since it's a soap, he can always come back. Also, I don't care about Frankie and his hooker. Nothing about the two of them makes me want to tune in and see them take care of her pimp and fall in love. I just don't care. Really? I was enjoying his scenes with Colby even though there's an age difference. Adam would have gone through the roof, which is always fun. Also, I don't want to root for Jake and Taylor just because the show tells me to because Ricky Paull Goldin and Beth Ehlers were so popular on Guiding Light. I didn't watch them on Guiding Light, I watch them on AMC. I like them both, I just don't feel a need to root for them as a pairing. I see potential with Jake and Amanda and she could use a good love story having never actually had one. Taylor I would like to see interact with Tad because Michael E. Knight works well with everyone and I like Krystal with Adam. I'm hoping Mario Van Peebles is out soon. Samuel Woods and his son Dre are boring. In fact, I find Samuel condescending. On the subject of things I do like? Carmen, Erica's cell mate. Carmen is fun, she should hang out with Myrtle and Opal. Petey! I loved last time they had Petey on canvas and Kendall was his nanny. I'd love to see 18 year-old Petey see her again and call her "Nanny Kendall". Either way, the kid is still a lot of fun.

• The DNC has been really good this year. Filled with really fantastic speeches. Hillary was great and I'm watching Barack now. Got to say, though, I wouldn't want to be in the stadium. Too big.

• I have decided that from now on if Billy wants to hang out or do something he's going to have to call. In fact, I have no intention of calling him until he calls me. It's his turn to work at the friendship.

Ricky has taken to abusing the dogs, by the way. Just the one, actually. Princess. When he went to work on Monday he tied her to their computer desk with her leash. Their computer desk is this trendy looking monstrosity with a bunch of bars and legs it doesn't need. So, she could easily have gotten herself tangled and choked. He left her with no water and no food and she was like that for over 12 hours. Around 12 hours, I think. She actually chewed through the leash and in retaliation destroyed the blinds in the apartment. Rock on, Princess. Rock on. Billy now has the dogs, no idea if Ricky will ever get them back.

• The sunset coming sooner now has me anticipating cooler weather. I'm ready for fall and winter. I like the cold. I like wearing my scarves and sweaters. I took two of my sweaters into the dry cleaners to prepare. Dad and I have made plans to buy me jeans. I haven't had new ones in over four years and only own one pair without holes.

• While Pushing Daisies is not my favorite show on the air and I don't love it, I am considering going to this. Why? Free pie. Also, I could use a pie cutter. And it's at Disneyland, so parking will be free. Also, free pie!

• On Tuesday I went to find Sports Illustrated with Michael Phelps on the cover. By the time I got to Borders, they had only one left. When I paid the guy said that I either got the last copy or the next to last copy because he knew that morning there were only two left. As there were none behind it when I picked it up, I take it I got the last one. I almost waited a day to go, so glad I didn't.

• Was perusing a few other magazines. Does anyone else find they wish they sometimes had a table of contents to find the table of contents in some magazines? Or they could hit ctrl+f? The picture in Nylon of Zach Gilford and Minka Kelly is really nice but it's kind of weird seeing them together since Matt and Lyla have never spoken to each other. Entertainment Weekly seems to have had the same reaction to The Women as I did. Eva Mendes in a role Joan Crawford played? Really? That being said, she fits the femme fatale thing. And I think Eva in a Crawford role is possibly better than Adam Sandler in a role Gary Cooper originated. I can't say for sure, though, having never seen Mr. Deeds and I will probably not see The Women because it doesn't look interesting to me. Speaking of Entertainment Weekly, they're smoking some bad crack. Last summer they suggested a remake of The Thin Man with Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. If you're not familiar with The Thin Man, please take my word for it, those two are terrible choices. Reese, slightly better than Jake. But neither has the sophistication needed for those characters. The book and the subsequent movies both were very sophisticated. Then EW went through and listed sequels they wanted to see and suggested a sequel to Casablanca following Rick and Louis and their beautiful friendship. No. Leave it be. Some hack author already tried it, let's not go there. I'm kind of glad I don't collect magazines anymore.

• All that hullabaloo over Warner Bros. and their decision regarding Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I find the studio's decision for the Superman franchise so much more upsetting and stupid. Because I'm not upset about HBP. I get it (it really is about the strike). But this Superman thing? Not cool and also it feels kind of lazy. They had a great starting off point for future Superman movies off of Superman Returns.

• Apparently, I had a lot on my mind. Whoa. Tags.
29th-Aug-2008 04:34 am - Last post of the day.

Ines arrived today and she is just so lovely.
She likes to read, write and takes some photographs (and she also is a Byron lover).
We had a nice chat with her, Johanna and C. tonite.
Both the german girls are vegetarians so we exposed our view about all this and it was nice.
C. was declared to be a guy and therefore he could not understand their point when I was sensible and could despite my meat diet.

Things to do in the next few months :
- Road trips : Prince-edward's + Newfoundland (and therefor Saint Pierre et Miquelon)
- Teach Ines how to ski
- Lose 5 kilos (in association with Ines who needs to lose those kilos too)
- Cook for the household at some point (still need to discuss a weekly schedule)
- Involve Ines and maybe Johanna in doing the Nano. It would be the crazy Nano housemates of love.
- Get a job either at Tim Horton's down the street or in the shopping centers.

Did you feel like a sense of joy pouring out of me?
My housemates (C. included when he doesn't try to be intelligent and fails at it) are, so far, made of win.

Ouais. Genre. For real.
