That Went Well.
Okay, after some HEROIC EFFORTS on our part, all the assignments for [info]kamikazeremix have been sent! If you signed up and did NOT get you assignment, please let me or [info]girlguidejones know IMMEDIATELY.

Okay, so I've recced [info]kishuku's last Sundown fic because I'm constantly amazed at how well she NAILED Sundown's version of Michael Weatherly and humanized a character that's often the villain of the piece without making him any less complex. Or nicer. It takes a really fine hand to do that, imo, and I geek out on it every time. Her Michael is MY Michael. Well, she went and did it again.

One of the things I really like about [info]kishuku's Michael stories is that she doesn't gloss over the ugliness of the situation at La Hacienda. It's a sanctuary but it's also a prison in many ways and she doesn't shirk that balance of safety and peril. If you like [info]sundownverse, I really highly reccommend reading her latest, Picture This. And I recommend giving her LOTS of love, because damn, she can write the hell out of Michael. For serious.

It's been a good day.

I Aten't Dead!
Reminder! Tomorrow is the LAST DAY to sign up for [info]kamikazeremix! We're really excited about the people who've already signed up, but there's always room for a few more!

I also come bearing recs:

Morning Coffee by [info]kellifer_fic

Kel is on the short list of people who is welcome to write in any of my universes, any time and this short, sweet ficlet is the reason why. Kel told me she had a wee bunny for my Die Hard universe and I begged shamelessly encouraged her to go with it. Morning Coffee is the result and it's...just perfect. Go. Read. And give feedback.

Whoever Brings the Night by [info]epeeblade

It's JDM/JA AU wherein [info]epeeblade takes a pretty cracky cliche premise (but one I still fall for over and over again) of the Space Opera and then infuses it with a deeper sense of chararcter than one normally sees in the genre.

It's a kink premise (Dom/sub), but she doesn't fall into the stereotypical trap of dom=strong/sub=weak. It's an interesting character study and I hope she continues with it.

COLOR me peeved
So.

8 Seasons. Popular show. Sexass lead character. Meaty ass story arcs. UST liek woah with gorgeous female lead and male lead. Dramatic and traumatic exit. Did I mention takes care of kids and plays guitar and piano?

Recipe for: Vehement shippers. Screencappers and icon-makers gone wild. Porn like you wouldn't believe. Steamy vids using almost-kiss and naked scenes.

Right?

Wrong.

As far as I can see, every single cast member of CSI: Las Vegas has a major fansite for both character and actor. Pretty much every possible pairing has at least one fanlisting and comms and etc.

Except one: Warrick Brown/Gary Dourdan.

There's one Cath/Warrick comm that you have to know the pairing name to find (it's YoBling *eyeroll*). One Nick/Warrick comm (but it's a Nick comm in disguise). Two inactive Gary comms and a handful of rare-pairing comms.

Other than that, it comes up pretty much nil - even off lj. IOW, the only comms that exist for Gary/Warrick are all comms that depend on his co-stars.

I'll give you one guess why I think that is.

*peeved*

Have you missed me?

PS - At some point, I think I'll write an essay on Warrick/Cath, because it's gorgeous and well-handled for the most part by its show. Until then, I'll just say: "it's supposed to be complicated" and leave it at that.

PPS - anyone who knows where I can find good CSI: Las Vegas screencaps, especially of s. 2 episode "Primum Non Nocere" I'd be in your debt.

This weekend in my corner of fandom...
  • Okay, Watchmen is a vast land of 'what?' to me, but I just saw the cast list and - OMG! - it's like a run-down of some of my favorite actors. Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer and Billy Crudup all in one movie? Can it get any more awesome? And Zack Snyder, who I've had a little crush on ever since watching the 300 DVD extras, is directing the entire thing! *flails*

  • Is there any reason why Captain Kirk, on the new Star Trek promo posters, looks like Sean Bateman on drugs right a second before he breaks into a psychotic fit? (Seriously, there's a Rules of Attraction promo where James sports exactly the same expression.) I don't really have an opinion on Chris Pine as Kirk, but that poster? Just - no! Zachary's Spock poster, on the other hand, is great.

  • When David Hewlett talks about wrecking the set while goofing around with little remote control racing cars with Joe, and calls him Flannididdy, it really does make me wonder why there isn't more RPS in this fandom. And when I say "makes me wonder", what I mean is "it makes me want to cry and beg for people to write some".

  • Am I the only one who didn't like the ending of Dr. Horrible at all? (Fitting, I guess, because I also didn't like the beginning with its endless monologue, but I thought everything afterwards was amusing and the songs were cute, right until the part where it stopped being amusing or cute.)

  • I find it amazing (read: scary) how old James Remar looks in Dexter (pictorial evidence: season three cast promos), considering how hot he is in Jericho, especially since the first seasons of both shows have been filmed around the same time. Basically, Jonah Prowse is sex on legs while Harry Morgan seems like a tired old guy. I also have no interest whatsoever in continuing to watch Dexter; any enthusiasm I had for the show seems gone.

  • There was a malfunction of our television aerial last night during the last five minutes of the not!Tatort. I think I know who the murderer was, but I don't know why or how. This sucks.

Ficlets (or rather drabbles-that-grew-far-too-long)!

Those have been an attempt to defeat my writers' block. Whether or not the plan worked remains to be seen.

These are not LJ cuts. Stories open in separate windows/tabs.

Formula 1, Fernando/Lewis, PG
Heikki walks away, and then you're alone with Lewis, who seems inclined to have deep meaningful conversations about feelings as if his two years in Formula 1 haven't taught him that drivers' parades are for small talk and making plans for poker nights and pretending to be interested when other drivers whip out photographs of their kids.
"First Steps"

Pawns & Symbols, Jean/Tirax, PG
It'll be alright to fall apart later, in the privacy of her own quarters where there's no one around to disapprove.
"Falling Together, Falling Apart"

Tatort Münster, Boerne/Thiel, PG
"Have you noticed that we're getting all the downsides of a relationship here but none of the fun."
"Domestic Moments"

Twilight, Jacob/Edward, NC-17
It's always been about Bella.
"Future Imperfect"

Robin Hood, Guy, Robin; PG-13
Once, at Marian's grave, he made the vow to avenge her and spill Gisborne's blood with the very blade that killed her.
"Memento Mori"

F1: Hockenheim

The RTL Formula 1 commentators suck so much that sometimes it hurts to listen to them. First it takes them ten laps to figure out that Piquet is probably on a one-stop strategy, despite the fact that it was glaring obvious because he'd pitted right before the Safety Car came out after more than half of the race was over. And then they spend the next twenty-something minutes telling us over and over again what an enormous strategic mistake from McLaren it had been not to bring Hamilton in to pit while the Safety Car was on track. I was tempted to either throw things at the TV screen or to just mute the sound. Gah.

Hamilton's drive was fantastic. I'm not exactly a huge fan of his, but I'm glad he won today because he really was in a league of his own. It was quite impressive. Piquet was very lucky that his strategy and Glock's accident coincided ideally, and Massa was just amazingly lucky that the race didn't go on for two laps longer or else Heidfeld would have been on podium on his stead. The Alonso/Räikkönen and DC/Button battles were fun to watch - DC/Barrichello... not so much, and I'm almost surprised that, after about five people went past him within two laps, Alonso stayed calm enough not to drive anyone off track.

Also, Heikki and McLaren keeps being a bad combination. I'm not sure why he fails to perform these days, but he certainly didn't look too happy when they showed him in the paddock after the race. *sighs*

Ron's little pit radio apology to Lewis after the race was cute, but what amused me even more was the RTL interview when he kept praising how outstanding and gentleman-like Heikki's compliance to let Lewis pass at the end had been. In a back-handed way, it was the closest he'd come this years so far to making a comment about the previous season. And knowing how carefully Ron always chooses his words, I assume that was exactly his intention.

Thoughts on SGA 5x02 The Seed. )

Huh. Surprisingly, I seem to have only positive things to write about the episode, except maybe for the lack of McShep moments. Of course, there's also the fact that I stopped caring about the show sometime between "The Last Man" and the season opener and am thus a lot harder to aggravate...

OMGYAY! People are already signing up for [info]kamikazeremix! This is most pleasing in mine eyes. There's still SIX MORE DAYS after today to sign up and PLENTY OF ROOM. Don't be shy! Be Kamikaze!

I keep meaning to do a big post on the state of my fannishness and I have consistently failed. So. Let's see if we can do this in bullet points:

  • [info]kamikazeremix!

  • Saw Wanted. Loved it.

  • Saw Iron Man again. Loved it still.

  • Saw Hellboy 2. OMG LOVED IT.

  • Saw Hancock. Had issues (that may make it into a post), but still loved it.

  • Watched Flashpoint. OMG SO BORING.

  • Watched Wanted. Slow, but I'll give it a second try. ETA: The Cleaner, not Wanted. I don't know why I keep thinking of this as Wanted.

  • Watched Baby Borrowers. I blame [info]shotofjack for this one. I don't know whether to be amused or horrified, quite honestly.

  • Watched Shear Genius. I blame [info]trollprincess, who has been my gateway drug for reality shows in general. I don't think I understand entirely, but I'm still watching.

  • Watched Pretty Handsome. WHY WAS THIS NOT PICKED UP?

  • Watched Leverage. OMG CAN'T FREAKING WAIT.

  • Watched True Blood. Um. Hmm. I'm reserving judgement. It's intriguing.

  • Have yet to watch Fringe, US Life on Mars (meh), or the last 4 episodes of Doctor Who

  • Am about to swear out an APB for my errant muse, who doesn't seem to be in any of his usual haunts.

  • [info]kamikazeremix!

Kamikaze Remix!
Some time ago, [info]girlguidejones and I talked about running a possibly insane remix challenge.

Well. We haven't recovered our sanity in the meantime, so we are pleased to announce [info]kamikazeremix! It is not, we assure you, a challenge for the faint of heart. Check out our user info!

If you think you might be half as crazy as GGj or myself, you should think about signing up. Sign ups begin Wednesday, July 16 and will end at midnight EST on Wednesday, July 23rd. We're really excited and we hope you will be too.

Please, feel free to pimp this far and wide. And join us!

Oh hai there, I'm alive!
1. Premieres of Monk and Psych on Friday! I've also totally gotten into USA's In Plain Sight. God bless the network that helps me survive the long summer.

2. Going to the Shakespeare Festival in Jackson, MI on Saturday with my dad. All's Well that Ends Well and Julius Caeser. My mom's coming too, just not going to the plays. We'll stay overnight in Jackson then head down to Fort Wayne, IN to visit my grandparents.

3. Also traveling probably to Toronto and maybe to Niagara Falls like the second week of August. We're hoping to see a play. I almost went to see Avenue Q in London. I'm happy I went to see Wicked instead, but Q will be playing while we're there. So we'll see.

4. Never did manage to get a job, which is why my life is so boring and I post so rarely. Hopefully, travel and senior year at SVSU will help me actually get a life.

5. I was at the mall with Jessica the other day and while we were in the food court, I saw a guy try to order a small french fry. From Taco Bell.
