Welcome to the Dances of Vice LiveJournal Community! This is where fans of Dances of Vice and prospective festival attendees can find event updates, and communicate with other festival guests and crew regarding official and unofficial meet-ups, travel tips, artist information, and anything else related to the Dances of Vice club nights and Festival.
This November, prepare to set sail for the most extravagant and fanciful gathering of castaways, sailors, glittering mermaids, sea sirens, pirates, romantic sea captains and scalawags ever known to New York!
As seen on NHK, MTV and SPIN, the Dances of Vice Festival returns on November 20-22, 2009 in a three-day nautical themed flight of fancy that will be held in several stunning and exclusive locations: Fort Hamilton (ca. 1825), a handsome historical armory which overlooks the New York Bay - The Montauk Club (ca. 1889), an opulent Victorian clubhouse modeled after a Venetian palace - and The Vault of Element - architectural marvels of the 19th Century, all.
The festival program will feature live music ranging from classical to rock ballads, international guests, fashion shows, dance, performance art, vendors, and ballroom dancing, among other chimerical amusements. For details, visit www.dancesofvice.com.
DANCES OF VICE is the art of nightlife once again revived. The creation of Shien Lee, Dances of Vice began in New York in 2007 as a venue showcasing an exotic melange of performances from and influenced by that special time in history, the 1920s and 30s. Since then, it has blossomed to include Victorian and Rococo themed events with a New Romantic flair, and has established a decadent community of elegant dandies, aesthetes, romantics and ne'er-do-wells who gather in shared enthusiasm for the music, fashion, culture, and beauty of times forgotten.
The grand vision that is Dances of Vice is more than the name implies; it is the Dance of decadence, of opulence, of glamour in the old-fashioned sense, and the unique bringing together of such like minds through themed evenings that combine Art, Music, Spectacle and Dance. Dances of Vice incorporates the myriad of magnificent influences of the past together in one club in a context that encourages originality and the avant-garde.
Dances of Vice events have regularly appeared in the New York Times, SPIN Magazine, NBC, Village Voice, Time Out NY, New York Post, and L Magazine. Recently, Dances of Vice has also been featured by NHK Japan, Imago Magazine, MTV News, Deathrock Magazine, Gothic Beauty Magazine, and Gothic & Lolita Bible.
