Discount Car Rental Codes.
Damnportlanders, if you rent cars, here are some codes to use. Play around with using different codes, they can save different amounts of money depending on the length of your rental and if it is a weekend or not. The car rental places usually don't hassle you about proving you are a member of any of the clubs below. At least I haven't had any problems. Enjoy. So far I have found the AAA ones to give me the best deal for short period rentals. You can use these codes to rent cars out of Portland or anywhere in the world.

Don't they generally ask for the coupon and/or membership card when you pick up the car? That's been my experience....

I'm not sure which ones you have used. I use the AAA but then I also have AAA anyway, but I haven't been asked for it. I suppose if the discount code gave you some huge discount, they could ask, or you could be getting an anal clerk?

I guess if they don't ask

then it's OK to use promotional codes that you're not entitled to.

/end irony

by that logic you should leave some guns and bullets out in your yard-and then say you're not responsible for people shooting each other.

Brilliant- I think you should test that assertion on a Judge and Jury... the sooner the better...

I think it was slightly before a damnportlander understood the concept of a metaphor, and was able to follow a logical argument without focusing on irrelavencies.

Bottom line- posting access codes for discounts to which one is not entitled is wrong. If people don't know the difference between right and wrong then I guess it's not really worth pointing out.

Quite pretentious aren't we? Posting access codes isn't inherently wrong, if people don't know the difference between right and wrong, that is their own problem. If rental companies didn't willingly offer these discount codes to customers in an airport, you wouldn't see them as being in the wrong, they are just doing business. You COULD use aerosol cans of whipped cream for something other than their intended purpose, but selling them doesn't make one a criminal.

Yes, I'm pretensious. yawn.

Whipped cream- last time I checked, was not a 'benefit' that is offered to valued customers as a gratuity for their patronage. Further it's not the misuse of such that's the point (with guns or whipped cream)- it's facilitating crime without accepting responsibility. *ding*

(hopefully little couuds are parting, and lightbulbs are going off over your head...)

You assert that posting private information isn't wrong (and I consider these access codes to be private info that is intended for specific people rather than the public at large.- we may disagree but that may be another arguement)

So if posting private info by 3rd parties is OK with you... one could extrapolate that... If your credit card company for example posted your info on the internet- that's OK with you as long as they say "Be sure and use this info only for the intedned purpose..." and that the blame for misuse lies only with those that misuse it? riiiight...

I see no difference between posting discount codes, with the clear intent of making them available to those who are not entitled to them and fraud. I guess that just makes me someone with a 'less than flexible' ethical compass.

Thanks for being the moral consciousness of DP, Mr. Judge/Jury/& Executioner. Why don't you leave it up to the individual to decide what is right and wrong? Just like you said, if people don't know the difference then it's really not worth pointing out, so why did you bother?

The car rental business has lots of competition. Coupons and discount codes are out there without having to be a member of a club but people don't always have time or know where to go look. The car rental companies want your business. Coupon codes wouldn't exist if car rental companies didn't want to convince you to go with them to save a little money. If you save 5% with one rental company over another because you got a discount (whether entitled or not), it's a win-win situation. They rental car company gets your business and you save a little cash. On the other hand, maybe you already have a membership and didn't know about the discount codes. Heck I have AAA and I didn't know about their discount codes for rental cars. And besides membership to those other clubs have other benefits besides just saving a little for car rental. It's not like I can get roadside assistance from AAA without a membership or get wholesale prices from Costco without a membership.

Bottom Line - It's the individual's decision, not yours, to decide what is right and wrong and whether to use them or not.

As long as we're digging the personal attacks- I feel sorry for you. If your self-image and / or ego is so low that you need the appreciation, acceptance and approval of anonymous internet people... so much that you have to become a self-appointed champion of discount car codes- well you should be proud. You're part of a long line of juvenile hackers, phreakers and criminals who have distributed long-distance codes, passwords, MP3's pirated software and other valuable commodities to people who are not entitled to them- Good for you !

Ouch! Oh that really hurt....now I'm sad :~~(

Hahaha. Thanks for the good laugh. Me and my hacker friends have now reached the next level of L337!!! Warez Warez Warez 4 All!

That's what I love about DP'ers. One of them tries to push themselves upon everyone else and as soon as there is a little retaliation, they feel they have to justify themselves by "digging" into personal attacks.

I guess my calling you the moral consciousness of DP is a real personal attack eh?

Funny how you seem to be the only one making (thinly guised) personal attacks, yet you're the first to criticize. Perhaps a call for increased personal responsibility is in order rather than complaining about the presentation of temptation.

Next on DP: THE EVIL THAT IS GOOGLE, the tricky magnet which points moral compasses in all the wrong directions.
