Green coffee bean providers
Do any of you out there roast your own coffee beans?  I'm new to it, but I started experimenting with roasting my own coffee (fresh coffee is so tasty!), however I got the green beans off of a website called Sweet Marias.  The beans are cheaper than what I have found for roasted beans in stores and nice quality, however since they are based out of California, I have to pay for shipping, and I am a poor college student, alas.  I was curious if any of you knew of a place where I could buy good quality green coffee beans that are affordable locally.  I live in SE, and closer would be better.

Anyone know what was up with the nude bike ride downtown last Saturday night around 8?

ALSOOOO anyone know of a hibachi-style Japanese place? You know the kinds that serve meat + rice + super sugary sauces and ~make fire~ for the awe and entertainment of their customers?

Dear (insomniac) DamnPortlanders:

So I wanted to listen to some music before I went to sleep, like I always do, and when I put on my headphones there was sound only in my left ear. The headphones only have one cord, going into the left earpiece. Can they be fixed, or do I need to spring for new headphones? These were less than a year old, I think. What are the best headphones for < $20? Right now I'm using the headphones that came with my CD player, and they suck. I should add that I hate earbuds and the kind of headphones that go behind the head. Also, I like the kind with the volume control on the cord itself.

Hey all,

I have a 4th question. Which bridge do they close for pedestrians (they do do this, yes?) for the fireworks display? Is it the Hawthorne bridge? And the display starts at 10, yes?

Large police enforcement action - 26 westbound
I passed about 3 police cars and at least 3 motorcycle cops radaring and pulling people over on 26 westbound between Sylvan and 217 (they were in that little maintenence road about halfway between the two exits) about 35 minutes ago. I don't know if it's a speed trap or related to this "Move Over Law" enforcement", but be careful anyway.

How very bummed I am

I am just weening off my juice fast today...so this morning I stopped at Limbo to get a fresh blended juice. Only to find out they no longer juice. 

Local farmers are struggling with the cost of gas. They have apparently had to cut down the amount of trips to the various shops, like Limbo, to deliver their produce. So I guess there are less goods, or the shops have to go elsewhere to get them and then they cost more...essentially, because they have less produce or the cost of the produce is higher, they just don't the capacity to have a staffer do juicing all day. She seemed pretty bummed about it too...and was apologetic...but what can they do?

She was kind enough to cut off the tips of my carrots and then wash them...so I could eat them today at work. 

She also said that many other places are no longer juicing...

I was feeling the hit of the cost of gas some...but I am really feeling it now...

Anyone know places which are still juicing?

Need advice from any satellite dish installers
I hate Comcast so very much. I have been getting digital TV with my digital antenna but I am getting a little tired of the pap on network television.

My landlords only real concern with me getting any kind of satellite TV is that he thinks the dishes look ugly and he doesn't want to detract from how the building looks.

Have any of you installed for either DirecTV (who I would be going with) or Dish Network professionally that can give me advice on alternative installations? I have called one of the local DirecTV resellers and they want to charge to come out and check it out.

volunteering
I am looking for some volunteer opportunities-- I am pretty open to different kinds of organizations though my interest lies mostly in ones that revolve around social justice. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to look, perhaps a website/listing of local organizations that need volunteers?

Can anyone give me a recommendation of a fairly affordable steam cleaner / rug cleaner that gets up cat puke stains / wine stains etc.. from carpet?

I mean something that works like magic (hurr!) I'm so sick of the random spots here and there.

The Bissell Spot Bot looks pretty good. It's a tad more than I'd like to spend (maybe $60-100).

I have the Dirt Devil Spot Srubber and it's a piece of junk.

Or maybe not a machine, but a miracle foam/spray that can be hand brushed on and vacuumed up?

Lots of cops downtown
I just walked from 5th and Taylor to 10th and Taylor and back and saw three cops ticketing folks, including a cabbie and bike messenger. They're hiding in the entrances of parking garages, so watch out, especially if you're a speed walker prone to running red lights.
