How much would I have to pay to have you cut it into strips and wrap yourself up like a mummy?

Would it have to be at DnD?

And also, how would I wrap up my arms without the use of my arms? Can lief be involved?

Would I have to cut him in on the cash?

Hmm...I'm just starting out with painting (still embarrassingly bad!), so I am interested, but know nothing at all about how easy it is to stretch canvases, or if it's cheaper to buy them pre-stretched. This interests me though. What can you tell me about buying unstretched canvas vs. ready-to use?

Well I bought them because it's way cheaper, better quality, easier to transport and you can cut it to whatever size you want.

The only real downside is having to stretch it. Best way I found is to like, nail it to a board before you paint, or around some spreader bars. (heehee that sounds dirty)

I just realized that I forgot to ask my roommates before posting this, and one of them is a painter, durrr. So, I found a home for the canvas, but it's really not very much to grab some from Art media. Also that way, if you fuck it up, like I always seem to do XD you dont feel too bad since its only a few bucks.

If you ever want to ask any artsy questions, I'm totally an open book with everything I've learned through experience and classes XD

Thank you so much!! I would really love to take you up on that offer. I'm enjoying my classes so far. I took a beginner's class which was supposed to introduce us to acrylics, oils, charcoal, and watercolor, but it was a little disappointing. The instructor's idea of introducing us to watercolor was one class of watering down our acrylic paint and going to town on regular paper. No proper instruction on watercolor techniques, brushes, paper...nothing. So that was disappointing, and now I'm taking a beginner's watercolor class, and loving it. That is, loving WATERCOLOR, and not my skills with it. =(

I also loved painting with acrylics and the ONE night of oils we did, so I plan to take more classes which focus on just those two mediums.

I took a few watercolor courses at PCC which were really interesting....for like a week until I realized I was going to get no help from the teacher, no direction. He would set up a still life and we'd go at it, and that was it.

I really like doing wet ground stuff :D but I don't do watercolor as much as I'd like.

Acrylics are fun. Oils scare my pants off, sooooo long to dryyyyy. But that's why people love them, right?

Where are you taking classes?

Heh. I'm taking classes through PCC as well. I wonder if you had the same teacher. He infuriated me in the same way: I paid money to LEARN about painting. I'm a total beginner, so I need to be told about color mixing and mediums and brushes...all that "boring" stuff that is actually very important, IMO. Instead, he gave almost no instruction and I really felt like I was floundering. And his "lesson plans" were ridiculous! He had us doing a musical chairs type thing where we painted for 5 mins at a time on OTHER PEOPLE'S work! I hated that! It was so pointless and infuriating to take the time to set up my palette how *I* wanted it and with the brushes I liked and then be forced to switch and use someone else's palette and colors. Grr.

I liked acrylics, but again, we never even got the chance to work with them on canvas...it was just slick paper...so my experience with them was also less-than-optimal, and I'd like to go back to them, and go back to oils too...with a better instructor.

I can't remember my painting teachers name, but I took a life painting course out at cascade with an older woman....Linda? And it was amaaazing :D

His name was Emerson, and both classes I've taken have been out in Lake Oswego...though he probably teaches at other campuses too.

It just bothered me that I couldn't get invested in my work. He was constantly taking it away and giving it to someone else and I just thought it was stupid. How was I supposed to care about painting at all if I couldn't even have ownership of my mistakes and little triumphs? That's a sure-fire way to make me apathetic.

Oooh, that sounds awesome. I'll be looking for a new class to take when this one ends in 2 weeks. Was it with acrylics?

I think it might have been the same guy...

But yeah, most people used Acrylics, one person used oils, I think, but those are totally hard to transport :/

Was he also a swimming instructor...kinda flighty?

Why are they hard to transport? Total n00b here, so all this stuff is interesting to me.

Oils take so long to dry, like, weeks, so if you're transporting them to and from class, you either need a super special rig that holds it so it doesn't flop around....I've never seen one >.> Or you have to leave it in the classroom.

Acrylics though, they dry in like, a day

ohhh, yeah I see what you're saying. We bought those big hardboards with a clip for this watercolor class, but that wouldn't work with oils on canvas. Oh well...I'd still lay them flat and drive reallllllly slowly. Haha.

I took a class called "Hands On Fundamentals of Brush Art"... Hands-on my ass! For the first 8 weeks it was an art history class and for the last 3 weeks it was "lets watch the teacher show off how bad ass he is." Apparently that guy now disappoints the east coast colleges now. I'm happy.
