Who makes a GOOD Mai Tai?

The tan has faded but the memories of my Feb trip to Hawaii haven't and now that the sun has finally shown herself , I find myself reminiscing about the great Mai Tai's I downed whilst on holiday in Waikiki.

Since Feb I've tried Mai Tais from two different places here in Portland and both times they sucked. Seriously sucked dirty dog balls. So I would appreciate any recommendations on a delish Mai Tai here in Portland.

Double the points if you can also recommend a place that makes a good Pina Colada. :o)

Cheers, DPs. Have a great Friday!

Edited to add: One of the bad ones was at Harvey's Comedy Club. Forgotten where the other one was!

well since you didn't say where you had bad ones, I hope no one recommends those places...

Strongest mai tai in town: The Alibi (nopo)

Overpriced but good ambiance: Thatch (NE Broadway)

They have a whole list of delicious cocktails at Malay Satay Hut way out on 82nd next to FuBonn.

Mai Tais, Singapore Slings, Pina Coladas, all the tiki bar faves

Hell, the drinks are good and the food is AMAZING. Totally worth the trip out there.

I know the Space Room does fabulous Pina Coladas, I'm sure they do Mai Tais as well. I think I may get one this evening!

I used to get good ones at the Ramshead. But then, that's the only place I ever had them. So, they're the best, and worse mai tais I ever had.

Go to thatch. End of search.

I'm sure you've been to places that pour heavy to make up for their lack-luster mixing skills but Thatch pours heavy and they are the best Polynesian influenced drinks I've ever had. They weren't even this good in Hawaii.

Contrary to the above poster they are not overpriced they only serve good booze and that is what you are paying for. There is no such thing as a "rail" drink at Thatch.

The atmosphere was brought back from tiki bars of the 40's and 50's and they usually have people like Martin Denny playing over the sound system. They are a non-smoking establishment because the whole place is built up with bamboo and has a thatched ceiling.

The tenders are wonderful and creative people so don't be afraid to say what flavors you enjoy in fruity drinks and see what they suggest.

PS. Give my love to Zorn, the tender with crazy hair and glasses.
