Hotel recommendations downtown.
Hi,

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel downtown?

I'm from Seattle and am planning to visit in a couple weeks. I've taken several day trips to Portland, but have never stayed overnight. I'm specifically looking for a hotel/motel where I can get two separate rooms within a larger suite. Something centrally located would be great, as well.

Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks!

Check out the Portland International Hostel in NW. I'm pretty sure you won't find a cleaner building(s) and kinder staff/clientèle elsewhere, and definitely not for that cheap. Hostels ftw. It's only a short Streetcar ride right into the University District and a short walk from PGE Park where you can get on the MAX line.

The only problem is that I don't think it has suites--it has private rooms (maybe private baths?) for couples or persons willing to pay slightly extra, but I'm not sure if it has separate single-occupant rooms in a suite. Honestly I'd just plug Hotel + Portland, OR into Google Maps and see what pops up for the area you want. What you're describing sounds a bit pricey, and I have no idea what the upscale la-dee-da in this town is like.

There's an Embassy Suites downtown and I know all of their rooms have a separate living room-like space from the bedroom area. You might see if they have an option for connected rooms.

I've stayed in the Paramount, the Hilton, and the Hotel Vintage Plaza downtown. All were nice. The Vintage Plaza is amazing and very expensive. The Paramount is great, and the Hilton okay. I don't know about suites, but quality-wise you can't go wrong with any of those three.
