70th and division?
I posted last week about my husband and I moving to Portland and got a lot of great responses. Thanks!

We got here Sunday and we've already looked at close to 25 houses all over Portland, but mainly in the SE area and north Portland. After exploring each neighborhood we really feel that SE is just more our vibe.

We found this house we like A LOT that's at SE 70th and Division. What's the opinion on this area? I know it's a little far out and the commute will suck for my husband, but we still like it. Is it a bad neighborhood, really far out or is there something else I don't know. I love the fact that the elementary has a Spanish immersion program and that we're 5 minutes from Hawthorne.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I think that sounds like a fine place to be. Plus, you're a mere 17 blocks from Wong's King for dim sum and other delights.

Best of luck to you!

Wong's King = WONDERFUL. There's one in Estacada, 5 min from my house. Wheee!

Ah, hell... now I need Orange Chicken and fried rice. Damn you, Jeff!

Also Legin, 82nd and Division.

I used to live at 60th and Division. It's quiet out that far, i found, actually. And yeah, Mt. Tabor park.

That's a cute area, actually. As long as you're below 82nd, you're fine. Plus I think that puts you in the Mt. Scott Community Center area, which looks to be a great facility for swimming and a gym and stuff (I'm going to go up in a week or two and sign up with them). And, of course, you'd be near Mt. Tabor which is a pretty park.

Take it. You're far away enough from 82nd you're gonna be just dandy. Mt. Tabor is beautiful.

Close to Mt. Tabor Park, as others have said, is a good thing. Great place to walk.

I want to second the Mt Scott park and community center.
PDX has great parks and recreation.
They renovated MtScott a few years back, the pool is indoors now.
I used to take the kids I watched to the old one for swim lessons.

I think that's my step daughters school... Atkinson? She lives on 50th and Division, I like the school. It's good, they do alot of after school learning activities lasting 6 weeks at a time in diff subjects and fairly cheap.. About $40 for each session. The area doesn't seem that bad when i'm over there.

I just moved to 77th and Division, I love it. LOTS and LOTS of good asian food out there and my buddy just opened up a Louisiana style crawfish and gumbo place right across the street from PCC - it's excellent!
