PSP Tragedy...
Anyone know anything about PSP's?  My son dropped his ON CARPET for pity's sake, yesterday and cracked the screen.  Now the stupid thing won't come on.

Anyone have any suggestions for a repair place?  I can't find anywhere on the Sony website where they do repairs....

Have you checked the battery to see if it was dislodged? That might let you power it on and see what all it can still do.

Replacement screens are more than half the cost of the PSP $50 to $70, if it's not playable, it may be better just to purchase a used one.

edit: Was thinking of the price for the Nintendo DS when I typed this. A used PSP is about $130

Thanks for the info. I am thinking about buying a screen for $40 and trying to put it in myself...sounds like a nightmare though. Yeah, I'm thinking he'd be better off saving for a new one...bummer it's only three months old. If you have a PSP out there...definitely get some kind of rubber bouncy type case. The screen is very delicate!

I'm surprised the screen is as cheap as it is-- a replacement screen on something like a laptop, where the screen is a separate piece of the electronics, is super expensive, so I figured replacing a screen that's built into the middle of things like on a PSP would be ridiculous.

...Just some perspective :)

For what it's worth, replacing the screen and digitizer in Palm PDAs is the work of ten minutes with a jeweler's screwdriver.

Yes, this is the voice of experience.

LCD pricing varies very strongly with size. A quick Google search should come up with replacement PSP screens, and a quick gander at the instructions would tell one whether it was worth the trouble or not.

Good luck to all involved!

I think his dad is going to give it a shot. I can't see sending it anywhere considering the cost and hassle. Just make him save up for a new one...good warning to all...get a case of some sort for your PSP and never ever drop it!

thanks for your replies...very helpful

yeah cases are a must for the psp
i actually have a logitech hard case for the regular psp that i am not using
as me and my hubby went and got a new psp slim and they are too small to work in it anymore
we did find a place online where you can get a type of plastic case for the slim psp though

I just throw my PSP around like I do with my DS. Maybe I should stop doing that.

As far as repairs, try contacting Game Trader in Cedar Hills Crossing Mall in Beaverton. They do some repairs I've been told.
