Sandwich goodness
So a friend pointed out that Esquire mag just released their top sandwich places in the US and reading through it caused for a serious rumble in mah belly. I CRAVE A MONTY CRISTO!

those that have sampled the (un)holy union of ham, turkey, swiss, on texas toast, battered, fried or grilled, dusted with powered sugar, and served with a healthy helping of jam or fruit preserve know how wonderful this all tastes together.

does anyone know of a place that can help cure this craving? and i'm not talking about settling for a cheap knockoff at Denny's either...

Sorry, no, the only place I've ever gotten them was the restaurant at Disneyland that
is in the entry to Pirates of the Carribean.
But, now I know what I'm fixing for dinner tomorrow.

i've eaten that very sandwich 3 times in my life and it's been at least 15 years since the last time.. lets just say that those 3 times were more memorable then my last sexual encounter...

Yeah, I basically went to DL last time to get that sandwich.

I could see it being a sexual experience.

MMMmmmm.

I had one at the McMenamin's Cornelius Pass Roadhouse. It was good but I didn't touch the jam. It was a special when I went there last month so I'm not sure if they're still offering it.

There's a place called the Oak Tree in Woodland, Wash. that has them. It's a drive, but if you really want 'em....

Monteauxs has that on their menu. Can't vouch for how good it is since I don't eat pork, but everything else they make is really good.

Monteaux's was a huge diasppointment if you have ever had and enjoyed a Monte Cristo from bennigan's.

I should mention that Monteaux's also disappointed me the one and only time I went.

My bf LOVES Monte Cristo's but was trying to find one like the one they serve at Bennigans. I made a post here and a lot of people said Monteaux's. Ok, so we go. His sandwich was fine I mean not rotting or anything like that BUT it was not what HE was looking for.

I ordered something on the menu that was labeled as PIEROGI's but when they served my food, it was NOT a Pierogi at all, it was sort of like fried mashed potatoes with cheese...UM NOT A PIEROGI.

Anywho, though the food tasted fine and the atmosphere was good, we were both disappointed. I would imagine it would depend on if you are comparing any new monte cristo to one you have had elsewhere.

thank you Ma'am for your candid response. i'll let you know how Milo's works out, how's that sound?

if anything, i have a recipe and can/have made them for myself, but it's good to know a place that you can go to and get a good bite to eat.

that would be awesome.

I wanted to correct what I has said because the food at Monteaux's is good stuff.

Have you ever had a Monte Cristo from a Bennigans? If so, then you can understand my bf's huge disappointment =)

so i called up and ordered one on the phone, but my bus from downtown to there was late so it was luke warm when i got it. all-in-all it wasn't bad, but i still feel that the itch has not been scratched. the sandwich itself was fine, but they had some peach/pear relish instead of jam and NO FRIGGIN POWDERED SUGAR!^@$!!!

so in closing, the beast has been quelled for a few hours, but will reign terror again soon. my quest goeth on..eth

oh and yes i have had them at Bennigan's and it was lovely, but pales in comparison to Blue Bayou right next to the Pirates ride in Disneyhell, which is the Mecca of Monty Cristos.

I am of the firm opinion that the Monte Cristo at Milo's City Cafe (NE Broadway and... 15th?) is quite delicious. I've eaten it many times and recommend it highly.

Its a 4 star diner, but I can attest to their greatness. It was a staple there for a long time. You may want to call and ask if they still serve them. I have not been there in a long time.

I don't think you'll be dissapointed. Chef Philipe Beloux (sp?) has won the James Beard Award and he's quite good at his menu design. Even for lunch.
