O RLY
Ron Paul, on the 1992 L.A. riots:

http://groups.google.com/group/soc.culture.african.american/msg/c8668bd3662b0fa5
The Los Angeles and related riots mark a new era in American cultural,
political, and economic life. We now know that we are under assault from
thugs and revolutionaries who hate Euro-American civilization and
everything it stands for: private property, material success for those who
earn it, and Christian morality...

...Regardless of what the media tell us, most white Americans are not
going to believe that they are at fault for what blacks have done to cities
across America. The professional blacks may have cowed the elites, but good
sense survives at the grass roots. Many more are going to have difficultly
avoiding the belief that our country is being destroyed by a group of
actual and potential terrorists -- and they can be identified by the color
of their skin. This conclusion may not be entirely fair, but it is, for
many, entirely unavoidable.

Indeed, it is shocking to consider the uniformity of opinion among
blacks in this country. Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5%
of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market,
individual liberty, and the end of welfare and affirmative action. I know
many who fall into this group personally and they deserve credit--not as
representatives of a racial group, but as decent people. They are,
however, outnumbered. Of black males in Washington, D.C, between the ages
of 18 and 35, 42% are charged with a crime or are serving a sentence,
reports the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives. The Center
also reports that 70% of all black men in Washington are arrested before
they reach the age of 35, and 85% are arrested at some point in their
lives. Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the "criminal
justice system," I think we can safely assume that 95% of the black males
in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal.

(Ron Paul claims this was ghostwritten by a staffer.)

Ditto? I guess they value progress even more than results.

On that note, if they've been following him this long, I don't think reading this will dissuade them from supporting him now.

I think Ron Paul may have just realized an unpalatable political truth: blacks are marginalized as a voting population.

That, or he really is just CRAZYCAKES.

But I can go to Google Groups and find posts I made back to 1989. How embarrassing. I found one where I referred to a 20 MB (that's MB, not GB) hard drive as a "monster".

What really annoys me is that he is singling out blacks, when we know that Jews, who rejected and killed Christ, are a much greater threat to our society.

You know, most libertarian or free market economists are either cowards, or have a cognitive gap, because it is very hard to get them to either admit or realize that there is any gap between their normative and positive beliefs. Which means they can't admit that there is a difference between what is, and what should be.

Now, if you were an honest libertarian, you would say "private property is a right, and the government doesn't have a right to interfere with it, even if it would have an outcome that helps people". But instead, most free market economists will say "private property is a right, and it also leads to wide-spread prosperity". Which is very convenient! And they will go to great lengths to prove it, even though if they really believed so much in private property, they wouldn't have to.

Anyway, so they see that their system doesn't lead to results, and so it is inevitable that something has to be found to delay the perfect progression. Voila! Black people! That is why the system isn't working correctly.

Oh yeah, and the knife also cuts the other way. Many socialists can't go from the facts (such as they are) about how socialism helps people in society, back to saying why it is okay to take people's property to do so.

I'm more and more surprised every day by the fact that anyone who doesn't live on a Christian paramilitary compound out in the woods supports this guy. I've talked to a lot of his supporters, and they are uniformly misled about what the man actually believes. For example: they all talk about how he wants to "return to the constitution" or he "believes in constitutional government," but most of them have no idea what he means by that.

Ron Paul's version of the bill of rights is almost completely useless. If he had his way, your freedom of speech and freedom of religion could be limited (or taken away) by local or state governments, just not the federal government. That's essentially what he means when he says "States' Rights"--the right of the states to take away your actual freedom. It's absolutely disgusting. Not even Bush would have done that.

As a final point, this line is also ironic: "and Christian morality..."
Because African-Americans on the whole seem to be a very religious group of people.
I think many so-called Evangelical Christians (who, not to confuse things too much, but who I actually understand to be more Aristotelian than Christian) are very uncomfortable with how Judeo-Christianity informs black culture, because it is a living part of the culture, more a form of poetry than of religion.

I find myself questioning the intended purpose of this post. While it would easily appear to be anti-Ron Paul at first, I am having doubts. Why? My explanation requires a bit of setup.

I only personally know two huge fans of Ron Paul, and since I tend to avoid political arguments, I haven't encountered many others online, either. One of the folks I know is a political fanatic, and as such I tend to expect a bit of fanboyish from him, even though I know he means well. The other is a gal I barely know, who came to one of my BBQs last year and is now on my friends list. She has a level head, though, and I like what she has to say. Regardless of these two folks, I haven't really made any lasting opinions on the matter from their various ravings.

However, reading this post and its plethora of hateful, vitriolic comments, I took a few hours to look through various articles on Ron Paul and his political leanings, and compare them to those of some of the other candidates. At first, some of it startled me. If you didn't read any further than the comments on this thread, and a few surface statements in various articles, you would indeed believe he ias against all kinds of civil liberties, and a hateful, super-christian nutjob pundit of the worst degree.

But if you believed that, you'd be wrong. Every single political leaning of his ties back to one much larger one, wholly: States' Rights. The more I read about him, and the more I find people who outright blast him without knowing anything at all about him, the more I find him to be promising.

Perhaps that was your intention all along? Regardless, this post and its threads have converted me to this guy. Sweet. Go Ron Paul, and thanks, neurophyre! Keep up the good work!

Heh, stuff like that makes me wonder why I even had to justify my response of "Put down the damn bong!" when my friends in BC told me about the Marijuana Party of BC's endorsement of Ron Paul. Sure, he wants to legalize it, but that doesn't stop him from being a Klan meeting away from being Strom Thurmond's apprentice.
