Internet Woes!
Arg! Okay, I'm confused and maybe stupid. I need help figuring out how to get internet to my apartment through a Qwest phone line. I'd rather not buy Qwest DSL if possible, because I think I can get it cheaper, but how?? What other internet providers will hook me up with a DSL or regular modem at less than the cost of Qwest DSL? Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

If you're going DSL, it's always Qwest. Either you're just leasing the line directly from Qwest, or your ISP is.

We have a Qwest phone line and get our DSL through Speakeasy, but I don't know if their DSL is cheaper than what Qworst offers.

Last I heard, Speakeasy was much more expensive (like $70 vs $29 per month), but typically faster, lower latency, and with static IP addresses. So if you're going to do VOIP or lots of on-line gaming and you do't mind the cost, SE is a great way to go.

But unless you (kathyrhino) know something I don't, it's definitely not cheaper.

I used Spiritone before switching to cable. Not sure what they are like now, but back then they were quite reasonable and their tech support was the best.

We still have spiritone for dialup (when the borrowed wi-fi goes out.)

If you're going to pay an exorbitant price to an evil company for Internet service, why not get cable? It's so much faster than DSL...

Yeah, when I first got high speed Internet and had DSL and weighed the options, pros and cons and did the math, cable did turn out to be the better deal.

I just switched from DSL to cable. My DSL speeds were horrifically slow. Ugh.

Bonus that the comcast guy was HAWT!!!
