Housing hints?
Greetings, and Happy New Year, if you celebrate that kind of stuff!

I'm turning to you for some rental advice. I've seen posts in the past asking where to go to find places, but can't seem to track those down. I just wanted to put the word out that I'm looking for a 5+ bedroom house, and ask for some advice about where to look other than CL or oregonlive.com. And, if you know of a place like this that's available soon, so much the better.

So, where do I look?

Thanks!

Housingmaps makes the Craigslist narrowing-process a little easier in my experience.

Ive used rent.com when looking for an apartment before. It was helpful and I know that they do have houses listed there as well.

Not as easy or spiffy as internet searching, but I've seen a good number of houses up for sale in N. Portland, along Rosa Parks and that area. You could always go on a house-hunting outing...:) That's how I found my apartment this last time.

I have a by-no-means-exhaustive list of property management companies on my website (www.saltbreadwine.com). Go the the properties tab, you'll see it.

These are the places I go when I'm looking to rent a house, but I don't seem to see any 5+ bedroom houses available at this time. Here's the list anyway:

portlandhomesinc.com
kerrpropertiesinc.com
foxmanagementinc.com
rentalhouses.com

I work for a property management company that specializes in single-family homes- no 5 bedrooms available at the moment, but we do have some 4+. Please email if you'd like more info, or a link:

No 5 bedrooms, but there are 4+? How does that work, are there 4.3 bedrooms or something? :)

Maybe 4 bdrm, and a bonus room (no closet), or a den/office (again no closet). My parents have a three bdrm house with an office, and a bonus room which both have doors and could be used as bedrooms, but cannot legally be considered bedrooms because they lack closets.

When the ladyfriend and I were house hunting, I was sitting at home looking at the MLS for the houses, while she was here looking at them with the realtor.

She called me from one, and I told her, "This one has 2.1 baths. What is a .1 bath?" Eventually she found it. The second floor had a shag carpeted (to include the walls) family room. There was a half closet folding door on one wall which concealed a toilet.

Doc do you have a harem we have not heard about or something? I found a deal on a big 4 bdrm on SE 76th in the Oregonian when I was renting, but that was 4 years ago and it seems like the good rental market likes to shift their preferred advertising location from time to time.

Just curious, if you want to rent a space that big it's got to be mondo expensive, right? Why not look at buying?

Good point. If a 40-something psychologist can't afford to buy a home here, well i'm screwed.

I've owned my own home for about 15 years, but divorce does wondrous things to one's credit rating. I will own again, but not for now.

40 plus 9! :)

I doubt this will help, but I saw a 5 bedroom, 2 bath place for rent in Corvallis in their paper recently.

Often you can actually go to a real estate office and they list houses for rent too.

He needs one room for Potato and 4 for his harem. Thus, 5+.

ask your friends that rent nice houses to ask their landlords what they've got up right now.
