is there a planned parenthood or something going in in the pearl district? there were pro life people on 10th and johnson today with big graphic aborted fetus pictures and signs saying things like planned parenthood kills babies. i am wondering why they would choose that spot.

Bars + Jukebox
What bar in any part of Portland has the best jukebox? I suppose that's relative, but by the best I mean choices that may include: Dinosaur Jr, The Replacements, The Misfits, Fugazi and the like. Basically 80s and 90s indie underground bands. Not so much aughties "indie." Does this exist? Thanks!

Camping & Hiking!
Some girlfriends and I want to go hiking and camping on saturday. We were thinking spending the day hiking and just setting up camp somewhere back near the car. None of us own any legit camping gear that we could pack in with us so it has to be car camping.

Any recommendations??

parking's a bitch
I don't drive at all so I don't know much about parking in Portland. I do know I live in Zone A though and that I'm tired of paying to let people park in my building's garage if they plan to hang out with me all day or plan to stay overnight. It would be much cheaper to get those day guest permits that you scratch off. I found how to order them online but where can I just go buy them or even better... does anyone have extra Zone A day permits they don't need? Any help would be appreciated and snarks will just be laughed at.

Help a broke girl out!
Sorry to be annoying, but I'm broke! So... buy my crap!

They're iTheater wireless video glasses. Basically, they're super awesome, but I'm broke. You can plug in a DVD player or video games and watch them (and hear them) IN YOUR GLASSES. Neat, huh? Also they're wireless, so you can watch movies or play video games while roaming around.

Be the talk of your neighborhood!

Something repeated about Sotomayer that doesn't make sense:
"Sotomayor denies racial bias in 'wise Latina' remark" (http://www.yahoo.com/s/1100182)

Since when does Sotomayer have a different "racial" background then anyone else on the Supreme Court?
If I believed in race (which I don't), Sotomayer has the same racial background as I do.

Favorite bars.
Yo damndrunks, I am greatly in need of some advice from bar connoisseurs. I'm not much of a drinker, but my 21er is coming up and it'd be pretty damn lame to be sober on it so I'm gathering some friends for some drinks. Which bar do we go to? Here are the criteria in order of importance:

Non-negotiable:

1) Easily Trimet-accessible.
2) Okay with me and some friends setting up camp for two-three hours.
3) Seating for 5-15 such that we won't have to split up into separate booths and be completely sectioned off from each other.
4) Room for 5-15 on a Friday night.
5) Non-shitty music. Top 100 will drive me up the fucking wall.

Bonus criteria (+5 but not necessary):

1) Cheap.
2) Something for vegans to eat other than fries.
3) Froofy drinks for people like me, who can't stand the taste of alcohol.

Or if you can't be bothered to concern yourself with criteria, just tell me what your favorite bar in Portland is. Because it's my birthday soon and you didn't get me a present last year.
I didn't get a lot in class, but I know it don't..

NOTARY PUBLIC

I've seen several posts asking for a registered Notary Public on LJ, as well as being asked by a few friends lately.

So if you're ever in need of a Notary Public feel free to ask/recommend me.
I'm a licensed notary for the state of Oregon, and have lots of experience notarizing legal docs, and witnessing signatures.

It's supposed to be $5 a notarized page, but I think charging for my signature is weird. So I do this for FREE. That's right....FREEEEE DP.

I only ask for a possible barter....good music....a beer maybe.....free concert tickets.....columbian cocain.....etc. (joking about the cocaine).

Not Portland related, but...
...but we all like Internet memes, don't we? Just came across this fun one that ended up on a news broadcast in South Carolina, and I thought it might be fun for other people to post memes they found in unexpected places.

Memes away... )

You're a kitty!
I hope this sort of post is acceptable--I checked community guidelines quickly and didn't see anything, but please let me know if it isn't, mods. Also, er, hello, everyone. Very nice to meet you.

I literally found two very young kittens on my doorstep this weekend, with no sign of a mother, though they look too young to be away from one. Their eyes are just open and they're running around, and as dangerously cute as may be expected. They look like strays: a little thin, a little sick, but they're incredibly sweet and already affectionate. They'll run to you and fall asleep purring in your hands. They're irresistible in the flesh.

And they need a home. Help, please! )

Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera.
If there is one thing that Portland loves, its zombies. If there were to be a close second it would be music, so it comes only naturally that these two great things are smooshed together in a great piece of work in PSU's original production of Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera. It just so happens that my lovely girlfriend is the pianist for this show and [info]forced_plastic oddly is in it as well (I just learned of this today). If you like over the top zombies, blood, classical music, blood and creative uses of security cameras, I could not recommend this opera more. There are 6 showings left, Fridays and Saturdays at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, 8 PM. Best to get there early as the shows have been selling out!

And tell 'em Hunt Stockwell - American sent ya.

Check out The Green Dragons website, they have a full bar, a great menu and a TON of beers, so many they can't keep them updated on the website!
