What beasts do my fellow dreamers see in their nightmares? How do they hunt, how are they hunted?

I have dreamt of four:

Insects, large kin to roaches, that move in great swarms, carpet halls. Chitin and numbers make useless blows; I have not dreamed their destruction but I suspect it would be achieved by fire or toxin.

Hearth-lizards, fire-breathers. The hunter with skill to avoid their flames finds them no more difficult to dispatch with weapons than an ordinary animal.

Small armless imps, sharp of tooth and talon but fragile.

A great guardian, perhaps once man but now machine. Its strength, armor, and skill are beyond any hunter's. It has living eyes behind its mask and may be harmed by magic, but only an army of hunters may feel emboldened by such trivial vulnerabilities.

[[Reinforce has added to each description a sketch of the roaches, salamanders, necrits as described in [info]damned_monsters and Grievous. They are not terribly artistically inspired but the lines are clean and emphasize identifying anatomical features. They include the occasional written note on texture, color, scale, and the like.]]

- Rats, the size of which is more comparable to a small dog than any rat has right to be. Haven't been attacked by any, but one was seen so they evidently exist.

- A dog or wolf of some sort; it's hard to tell which, as they're of the undead variety and rotting away. These stand about roughly waist-height; quick and agile despite their advanced state of decay, also highly aggressive. Seem to attack as normal wild dogs or wolves do, and can be similarly dispatched. Rotten flesh offers little resistance to blades. I've only encountered one alone, but they'd be dangerous in packs.

- A monster of indeterminate form; apparently it has the ability to disguise itself as someone close to you. Has teeth like a bear trap when it attacks.

- A large man with a massive sword and/or a long spear and a triangular helmet. Others have encountered it as well; some seem to have taken to calling it 'Pyramid Head'. Extremely dangerous, can take grievous wounds without stopping or flinching and has unnatural physical strength. Also possessed of a long, black - appendage. Possibly a tongue. Avoid at all costs.

[Similar to Reinforce, Dias has included pictures; the rat is vague, the dog is relatively detailed, the mimic gets a question mark and no actual drawing, and Pyramid Head is sketched out quite vividly. The sketches are also on a rough height scale, with the rat on one end and Pyramid Head on the other. Sketches are good enough quality that his artistically challenged mun can't replicate them.]

In addition to what's on here now:

I dreamed about a pair: a woman and a giant. Poison gas from the woman (I had to cover my mouth) and a big, huge guy with chains on wrists.

If the woman dies, the giant loses its direction.

I dreamed I fought them in a pair with someone else, and you should too if you seek to slay them! ♥

I'll post pictures of it in a second.

Little brown men made out of the very earth they rise up from. They like to dig their claws into your leg and ankles. Just kick the annoying pests where their face would be. Oh, they also freeze up if exposed to light.

Helpful, aren't I?

I get nothing but damned spirits. An invisible one that laughs, teases, and chokes, a shadow that steals the will, and a bloodstained girl with floating blue fires following her around.

The shadow didn't seem to like light much but I couldn't hurt it. Invisible one didn't have a body I could sense at all. The girl was affected by magic.

I suggest just getting away from all of them. They aren't worth the trouble.

Give it time and we'll find something that actually bleeds.

Honestly, I could go for something that squishes the way things are supposed to. I did run into that giant winged lion-thing Kuchiki-san referred to my first night here.

I'll be upset if we come across SuperRat now. Just to spite us.

Hmph, this is actually useful I have to admit. Besides the ones already mentioned, I have some additions myself;

Bats. Can't say too much about them though, as I haven't bothered with them myself.

Large ugly apes. If you're smart enough you'll avoid its fists.

Snakes, the strangling ones (they didn't appear to venomous, at least). Larger than they are supposed to be. Knives don't work on them.

Some disgusting-looking creature. It seems to be various monster parts stitched together.

And something that's invisible.

Disregarding the ones already mentioned, I have an addition of my own;

Spiders. Their body seems to be the size of an average human, while their legs appear to be around five feet, but seem to vary in size. They also possess pinchers. Regardless, their undead, rotting bodies appear to be weak.

I had a crazy little girl spontaneously combust on me. Then there was the zombie cats on crack and some kind of living zit monster with this huge ass tongue that looked like it was the bastard child of a toad and a gorilla.

Fun stuff.

Death-slugs! Well, leeches, really. But huge! As long as your arm. Don't squish them in the middle, the front half'll keep trying to get at you. Crush the head and teeth or better yet, don't go crawling in a pile of them.

Two nurses: one of dust and decay, yet skin continues to swallow the items near and utilize them as an atypical arsenal. Another bears hypodermic needles through the flesh and their fingers hideously transformed into surgical scalpels.

As for the invisible girl mentioned before? Her kisses steal breath, though she can be swayed into leaving with kind words.

Putting aside those that have already been mentioned...

I've also dreams two different creatures that seemed to be made of various disparate monsters sewn together. In both cases, it took a great deal of fighting to kill them.

There was also a large swarm of graceful, reptilian insects which attempted to devour anyone who happened to be unfortunate enough to be caught within their midst. Strangely, throwing objects through the swarm made them turn on themselves in their confusion, and enough widely-spread attacks concluded the matter.

Strangely, there were also dreams where the staff seemed to shift into horrifying forms. They attacked with morphic bodies and corrosive acid, and seemed far tougher than one would have expected.

((With each of these is a basic, though trained, sketch of the monsters in question: Leftovers, Dragonflies, and Nurses.))

Aside from the stuff that's already here...

I dreamed about a silent creature in a dark cloak. When it got near, things got cold, and it made everyone miserable enough to consider giving up. It's a bit taller than a human, and about the same shape. It's better to deal with it as quickly as possible, and only if necessary. Blunt force works well.

[A rough drawing of a cloaked figure is attached.]

- An enormous creature with huge, clawed paws and sharp teeth. It also had wings, but did not use them, as it was blocking a doorway. You'll know it by the scent - fetid, and rotten, and worse than you can imagine. Do not attempt to engage it unless you are well-armed and in large numbers.

- This one I am less sure of; he may have been one of us... A small child wearing a strange mask. He asked for his mother, but his touch caused injury. Has anyone else, aside from the group I was with last night, encountered him?

Nanites.

If you touch anyone else, you'll infect them as well. Your condition will just get worse until you look like him, gas mask and all.

...unless the management here's reprogrammed the little bastards. Which... I'm not going to assume, if it's all the same to you.

Oh shit. This is bad.

This is Captain Jack, right? You're not just joking around, are you? I'm not in a joking mood to

If you're being serious, how does something like a robot, no matter how small, infect you? How do they change the people they infect?

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]killing_suzie
2007-08-08 06:03 pm UTC (link)
Yeah, that's me. And I only wish I was joking. The really sad part is, I was there when we fixed up the original outbreak. But... yeah, it's not something that can be done now, because we don't have the ship the nanites came from.

Think of them like viruses. Which is about the right size. You can pass them around and give other people whatever cold you've got. Nanites get in your body the same way; massive amounts of them can work together to basically reconstruct your body from the sub-cellular level up. So they can do really awesome things - like fix your broken leg. Or, depending on how they're programmed, they can do really bad things - like turn your face into a gas mask.

So there's not way to stop it once you're infected? And you can't touch anyone else, or they'll be infected as well?

(Reply to this) (Parent)(Thread)

[info]killing_suzie
2007-08-08 06:12 pm UTC (link)
Pretty much. At least that's how it worked in 1945. The only way to stop it would be to interface with the nanites, which I don't have the tools to do. And I'm also just a rocket jock, not a nanite wrangler.

Hey, we could be lucky. If the mad scientists here don't want a legion of gas mask zombies, maybe they reprogrammed the things.

Guess we'll find out soon, huh.

I'm not sure what to call them, but in the female block bathroom, my group encountered the same lizards-with-wings monster that another poster has mentioned. Their wings didn't take kindly to water. After the swarm was drenched, it was simply a matter of stomping all of them to death.

Last night, in the Disciplinary Therapy hallway, the rescue team encountered three golden monsters with metal for skin and knives for fingers. Their weak point is at the base of the spine, and the blood has remarkable healing properties. A small quantity will cure severe injuries.

[a rather sophisticated sketch of a golden monster is attached]

Description: 4m long avian. Similar to most winged predators. Not very subtle, which completely ruined its attempt at dive ambush tactics. Disgusting, greasy feathers. Sharp claws and beak.
Advice: Sever the tendon, muscle, or major artery at the base of a wing. The avian meatbag will be completely unable to fly, producing amusing results. After that, I found that stabbing it until it stopped moving was a useful tactic.

Statement: Others have described the creatures I have encountered, but with pathetic or no visual descriptions. I have depicted them as well. Also, I might add that the cold, cloth-covered hostile bleeds insects, and seems able to repair itself from any damage that is sustained.

[[Attached are several completely detailed drawings of an Aquila viewed from different angles, down to the feather coloration. A measurement scale is added for reference, as well as helpful hints as to where one should cut. The same has been done for Cats, Medwing Nurses, Lurchers and the Dementor.]]
