Nightshift 35: Janitor's Closet

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

It was just as advertised, really, and Brooklyn didn't know if he should have expected any different when the door broke open and the two of them entered the small room. He felt bad about the fact that they were most likely going to be stealing supplies from here just as they had the other place. Some poor soul, most likely oblivious to their nightly plight, was going to return to work tomorrow and find his cleaning supplies missing.

Or was he? They couldn't have been the first people to raid this place. But if the supplies were replaced, when did it happen? The gargoyle stepped aside as he thought this over to let Near do as he would.

Nightshift 35: Pharmacy (2nd floor)

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

"I hope this is important," Brooklyn grumbled as he led Near inside.

The room seemed to be full of medical supplies, mostly the medication itself. This sort of thing could be useful to anyone, though he had no way of knowing what this boy wanted it for. Another experiment, perhaps? Or did he honestly have someone he needed to get some pills to? Either way, the gargoyle felt that there were better things he could be doing with his time right now. Though there was a voice in the back of his head that told him he wouldn't be able to save everyone.

Nightshift 35: Stairwell by Waiting Room/Lobby 1

[info]muted_flame
[From here.]

The silence in the stairwell was slightly eerie, and Roy tried to catch snippets of conversations from either above or below them as he went step by step.

"Now I have to try and remember where I left off," he said to both himself and Hughes with a small smile, doing his best to lighten the mood. He had made some steady progress with searching the second floor's locked doors, but it had been a while since he had gone on this particular "mission."

Still, he trusted in his memory. He would know where he needed to go once he was seeing it with his own eyes again.

Nightshift 35: M101-M110 Hallway

[info]whohitreset
[starting in M102]

Matt sat back, staring at the closed door of his room and making no effort to get up and open it. There had been no assignment for him this night, so the urge to get up and do any real exploring just wasn't there. His fingers twisted into the sheets on either side of him.

The fear he'd felt the night before was something he didn't ever want to have to feel again. As far as he was concerned, he wasn't taking a step upstairs if he didn't have to. He wanted to extend that to not taking a step out of his room if he didn't have to, but he knew that wasn't going to slide. He couldn't stay in here all night, even if it was the safest option. He was still nicotine deprived and without anything to keep his mind from wandering. He'd be a twitching mess by the time morning came.

He prepared himself then, grabbing his flashlight, radio, and coat. He'd already changed out of the dress shirt and tie back into the familiar gray and yellow. Moving towards the door, he stuck his head out and checked the hall for other patients before leaving.

After another moment's thought, he returned to his bed for his pillowcase. Face set, he ignored Near's presence as he left the hall. There might be one thing he could do tonight.

Nightshift 35: Main Hall, 2-East

[info]scarletspeedstr
[from here]

The top of the stairwell led to... another hallway. It looked a lot like the one they'd just left, complete with looming shadows and a sense of impending doom. Wally was starting to get really sick of it. If he was going to have to walk everywhere at this insanely slow speed, he could at least have gotten something slightly more interesting to look at. Or course, 'interesting' in this place seemed to mean 'monsters about to kill you', so maybe he shouldn't complain that much. Besides, at least he could keep talking at Tony while walking. "So, I don't suppose you've got a weapon on you at all? In case we do get attacked?"

Nightshift 35: M91-M100 Hallway

[info]not_rly_fai
[M99]

Yuuhi finished his work, cutting the shirt up into smaller strips to be used for the fuses before he handed the scalpel back and started getting his own things ready for the evening.  The trip to town had made any kind of planning difficult, but he supposed that would be true for most of the patients.  Humming softly as he went about the room, gathering the metal from last night and his flashlight, it didn't take him long before he was ready to go.

He said a short goodbye to Allie, then headed out the door.

Nightshift 35: M-C Block Hallway

[info]rectifies
[From here.]

For once, the hallway was dead silent, not a single soul in view. The rest of the patients in this block probably hadn't started on their nightly trips. Or at least, Ken hoped that explained the quiet.

He continued to the door at the end of the hall. If he kept this pace, perhaps the child could reach the kitchen before the crowd rushed in.

Day 35: South Street

[info]lady_general
[From here]

The street seemed just as homey as any other one, if curiously empty of storefronts, as Celes turned down South Street. The general could hardly imagine being stuck in such a dumpy little town from birth to death. And how could she, already having the experiences of war and Vector, the sand-swept beauty of Figaro, and the icy north of Narshe already under her belt? The general decided then that she would rather have a young death than an old retirement. In the world after Vector, there would be very little room for women with her experience.

Smiling sardonically to herself, Celes continued down the street, unescorted.

Day 35: Germaine Street

[info]mizuhomaiden
[from here]

Sheena slipped the coupon book into the back pocket of her pants and wandered down the road. It was good to see the familar sight of an inn, but she didn't have any need to go inside; she was full of energy but she'd keep it in mind if she exhausted herself playing tag later on.

The sounds of a dog barking drew the ninja's attention and she turned down the next street, following the sound.

DAY 35: MAGUS PARK

[info]haiiro_no_chou
Rukia filed out of the bus with the other prisoners, shivering a little in the cool autumn air. She was a little irked that the nurses hadn't given her mittens on this trip. Forced to stuff her hands in to the pockets of her jeans, Rukia hunched her shoulders and wandered to the edge of the park before turning around to look for anyone she knew.

Nurses and orderlies were already milling about, supervising and watching the prisoners. Rukia's plan was to get a hold of something - anything - that she could use as a weapon when they returned to the Institute that night. It would be difficult with so many staff members around, but she was determined; the last thing she wanted was to be trapped on the buses again with no weapon.

Nightshift 34: Doctor's Office 4 (Stegman)

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

Now this was more like what Brooklyn expected to see when he entered a doctor's office. It was clean, it was normal... If someone walked into this office they might actually believe that Landel's was a perfectly legit establishment. Maybe the doctor that kept it even believed these lies himself.

After glancing over everything briefly and finding it safe for the moment, the gargoyle motioned L inside. So far they hadn't found anything much in regards to what the doctors themselves were like aside from what their offices said about them, and he wondered if the other man had anything else planned at this point aside from theft.

Nightshift 34: Doctor's Office 2 (House)

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

Brooklyn decided he needed a better way to open locked doors as he rubbed at a now very sore shoulder.

There wasn't anything particularly out of the ordinary in this room, though he might not have guessed it to be a doctor's office at first glance, but then Brooklyn hadn't visited many doctor's offices in New York. It was a bit messy, and as the door was locked before they got in he figured this had to be the fault of the doctor. Again there were more electronics that he probably wouldn't be able to get much use out of here.

He stepped aside to let L in. "Well, no eyeballs or weird pictures." This room might as well have belonged to one of his brothers if one just took a glimpse.

Nightshift 34: Doctor's Office 1 (Dr. Yumeno)

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

Brushing himself off, Brooklyn got to his feet. His shoulder ached a little from the impact, but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He took a glance around.

The office was rather plain, but it did have a computer. (And the desk chair seemed a little out of place, but everyone was allowed their own taste he supposed.) Unfortunately, Brooklyn didn't know much about computers aside from setting up a game of Solitaire. That was Lex's department and he, fortunately or unfortunately, wasn't here. Perhaps it would be of some use to L.

He checked back to see if the other man was following before continuing his examination. There were pictures of some woman all around - the doctor's wife, probably. Looked like he probably wasn't the cheating type at least.

"Come on in. It looks safe enough for now."

Nightshift 34: East Wing, Hall A

[info]manhattan_red
[from here]

The first door on the left, was it? Brooklyn stepped lightly around the corner, then pressed his ear up against the door. Hearing nothing immediately within (though he lacked his more sensitive gargoyle hearing to begin with) he went for the handle.

Locked. Of course.

"JalapeƱa. Stand back a moment." He looked over the door, then backed up until he was nearly at the other side of the hall before running at it with all his might. He connected at the shoulder, sending the door crashing open and himself falling through.

Nightshift 34: Main Hallway - 1-East

[info]quickdrawbkiddo
[from here]

This was the first time Beatrix had gone to this half of the building at night. So far it looked the same as it's matching hallway on the other end.

"If I recall correctly, the various doctors' offices are on this half as well as the pharmacy." She shined her light down the connecting hallway to the left. "They took us through here during the day for gardening; the greenhouse is through the far end doors."

NIGHTSHIFT 34: M91-M100 HALLWAY

[info]wing_head
[M95]

Before he was even entirely awake, Steve was aware that he wasn't in his own bed. The mattress and the pillows and the comforter and sheets weren't his. It only took him a split second to go from being asleep to being fully awake. He waited a few moments, pretending to be still asleep and listening for the sounds of anyone else in the room. He could barely hear the faint, rhythmic sounds of someone else breathing from across the room.

After a moment, Steve opened his eyes and stared across the room at the other bed. It was occupied with a large man in plain gray clothing, and the room itself wasn't particularly interesting.

Sitting up, Steve glanced down at himself. Gray hospital scrubs with a smiley face on the chest. This was a bit strange, even by his standards. Steve had been banged up by the Argonaut pretty badly, but his body could handle a lot more than most people. Most of his injuries had healed by the time he'd gone to bed, and as he stretched now he couldn't feel any lingering pain or soreness.

Steve got out of bed and wondered how long he'd been unconscious, there were no windows to give a time of day or night. He didn't remember having any dreams, so he couldn't have been asleep too long. And this wasn't at all like Steve's usual dreams, so he probably wasn't still asleep. With dreams mostly ruled out, Steve was at a loss for how he'd gotten here. It was extremely unlikely that he'd been abducted somehow from the Avengers tower; he would have woken up if someone had entered his room. And even if they had managed to get into his room and drug him without waking him up, there was still the fact that the rest of the security in the Avengers tower was tight.

Sneaking in and then sneaking out with him without anyone noticing would've been almost impossible. That left psychics and magic as potential causes, though he couldn't imagine why anyone would kidnap him just to put him in a room like this. Steve searched the room carefully, locating nothing more interesting than a flashlight and a radio. While it wasn't as old as the type he'd used during World War II, it certainly wasn't very modern looking, and the presence of the flashlight was odd as well.

There were a bunch of pens, and hwile those might've made good weapons for someone like Bullseye or Taskmaster, Steve didn't see much point in carrying them. Satisfied that he hadn't missed anything that might be useful or a clue to what was going on, Steve tried the door knob. Surprisingly, it was unlocked.

Whatever this was, so far it didn't make much sense, and was a bit more concerning than waking up in less than perfect condition in a cell somewhere. At least then, it was quite obvious what his captor's intentions were, and he could work on breaking out.

Steve paused and glanced at his room mate before deciding to let the man keep sleeping. The hallway outside his room was dark, and there was no sign of anyone in it. Steve grabbed the flashlight, eyed the radio for a moment before taking it, and cautiously edged out into the hall. He wasn't entirely sure what he would find out there, so he remained quiet and alert.

Day 34: Intercom, Evening

[info]damned_intercom
The intercom came on, and as it did, it seemed to carry a little more interference than usual for a daytime announcement, a little more static. While the patients might have thought for a moment that once again the elusive woman on the radio had hacked into the Head Doctor's system, the man himself soon proved that theory faulty as he laughed over the broadcast.

"Hello, hello, everyone, and I'm sorry for the bad quality of this broadcast; we've been having some technical difficulties lately, you see, and we wanted to make sure everything was fixed by tomo...."

His voice crackled out into inaudibility for a moment before fading back in.

"Yes, hopefully that will be done soon. In any case, now's the time that you all head back to your rooms to enjoy a delicious meal... seasoned salmon! Yes, we have filets of very tasty, very juicy salmon seasoned with herbs and garlic; on the side, we have mashed potatoes, peas, and to drink, our usual assortment of beverages. For dinner, you'll all be enjoying vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce."

The intercom's broadcast crackled again. The Head Doctor laughed, seemingly a little nervously.

"Ah, yes, perhaps we'll be able to finish the repairing tomorrow, when all of you are away at... Doyleton! Yes, yes, you're all in for a fun and exciting day, a day whose activities will be new for some and a welcome familiarity to others. You'll be under strict supervision, of course, but... well, I suppose you'll find out all about the circumstances tomorrow, before you set off, mm? Yes! In any case... I hope you all enjoy dinner!"

The intercom clicked off again as the nurses began ushering patients back to their quarters.

Day 34: Breakfast

[info]screwthegods
[starting off in M13]

The last part of the night was little more than a blur in Homura's mind. The men had rushed in, but not joined them, instead staying off to themselves. Before any of them had a chance to react, however, a voice sounded through the air, mocking some other person Homura had never heard of, and the patients themselves.

To Homura, whoever that man was, he sounded a great deal like a god.

But before he could ask questions, the demi-god found himself no longer in the chapel, but some strange room on a bed. Is that what Kenren had meant from his earlier warning? Homura sat up, glad at least that the world didn't spin when he did so. Then the same man from before began to speak again, with a completely different tone. It was confusing to hear him talk that way, calling them patients instead of prisoners as he had before. Homura listened quietly as the announcement was made, then got out of bed.

Maybe he wouldn't have to go anywhere yet. It wasn't like Homura knew where to go anyway, and that meant he had time. If this was his room, and if he had been here as long as Kenren had said, there was a chance he could find something with answers. The Taisho had even told him that Homura had seen Rinrei. Certainly he would've written something down, made a map, something that could let him find her again! He started with the desk at the end of his bed, first finding a small stack of notebooks. Picking up the first, he flipped through, turning the pages with quickening desperation as he found each one to be blank.

Nightshift 33: Men's Bathrooms (M81 - M120)

[info]notaghostreally
[From here.]

Now he'd gotten to the bathrooms safe and sound--and before Vlad. He didn't think he'd get here before him, but then again, he didn't really think about who would get here first anyway. It didn't matter as long as they both got here, right?

He leaned against a sink, waiting for Vlad to show up.

Nightshift 33: F21-30 Hallway

[info]himetsuru
[F22]

The intercom startled Falis when it went off and thankfully, she'd set the newly crafted spear down or she might have jabbed a splinter into her palm. As it was, she was stading over her bed looking at all her weapons laid out upon it. One sharp spear, still stained with Eve's blood, one fresh spear, and a stake. Maybe she needed another stake. Nah... Namine should remember hers; Namine didn't forget things. This was why Falis liked the girl so much.

Her eyes moved to look at the intercom as the announcement continued, nodding as it pretty much conformed the whole ancient technology thing she'd been pretty certain of in teh first place. And since it seemed like it was on the fritz, whatever it did, that maybe the princess wasn't going to have to use her super-secret sealing Forland blood anytime soon. Maybe there was another princess around with special blood doing it for them.

What was her name? Jill? Jane? Whatever.

Now, if the people that were supposed to be showing up showed up soon. Bounty hunters had to be patient, but that didn't mean they liked waiting.
