The batteries in my flashlight are dying. Soon the light will be gone, and they’ll come for me. I can hear them, moving in the walls. Click click, scratch scratch, I can hear their claws. Everything has claws at night. Claws and teeth that rip and tear...

I still have the knife I stole from the kitchen. It’s dull now, but I’ll stab out their eyes. If they have eyes. Oh god, I can hear them. The light is growing dimmer. I should have found a room, but I didn’t have time! They were after me, so close. I felt their teeth. I feel them now, phantom pricks of pain against my legs. They know. They know I plan on escaping. I’ve planned so long, so very long. I have to get out. I’ll go mad if I don’t get out, truly mad. As mad as the doctors tell me I am. They’re the mad ones, they who run this hellish place with monsters spawned of the deepest of hells, they who cage human beings like lab rats! They’re depraved, and they must be stopped!

They’re getting closer. They can smell me, I know they can. They’re in the walls, outside the door, slinking along the hallways to find me. I must be quiet. Can they hear the sound of my pen on paper? My breathing? My heart? It feels as though it’s going to burst.

The doctors took her away today. I swear I heard her screaming as I passed by the stairs to the third floor. It sounded like her, but it wasn’t a human scream.

They’ll come for me next. I know they will! They’ve been watching me. They write in their little charts and smile and nod and all the while I know they’re planning to--

Oh god! I can hear them! Right outside the door! There’s no more light, it’s dead. Oh god, it’s dead and I’m alone and the others were all taken. Dear god forgive me, I tried! I tried. I tried to protect them, I tried to escape! Please, god, forgive me. Though I walk through the valley of the--

No time! They’ve broken down the door! Oh god, the smell! Their eyes! Oh god, their eyes, their eyes in the darkness! Please, let it be…

P R E M I S E

By day, Landel’s Institute seems to be an ordinary mental health facility. The doctors and staff are friendly and helpful, seemingly devoted to the care and rehabilitation of the many patients who reside within. Days are tightly scheduled with plenty of safe and mundane activities for patients - such as Arts and Crafts and frequent trips to the Music Room. Throughout the week patients are taken to their doctor consulations, where trained professionals work with them and try to help them reconnect with reality.

Of course, the reality presented by the staff is anything but. Each patient knows they’re sane, knows that they simply woke up in a strange white room one morning, captive against their will. They know everything they remember is real, and that the world and life from their memories is certainly not a delusion - as the doctors attempt to tell them.

Nighttime assures patients that all is not well in Landel's. When the lights go out, everything changes. Creatures with a taste for flesh wander the dark corridors, and even the staff turn into ghastly abominations. The very building itself becomes deadly. The bright and cheerful mental hospital turns into something worse than any mortal nightmare. Armed only with a flashlight (found under each pillow), and a small assortment of other items, patients must use their wits and skills to fight, survive, and if they’re lucky, perhaps even escape…

This is the LJ community representation of all the stuff put up on the Bulletin Board in the Sun Room. Basically, you can post here with anything your character decides to write and put up on the board for other characters to see. Other characters can respond with their own "notes," (comments), or put up their own posts, though keep in mind that the Landel's staff will be keeping a close watch on anything said here. (Consider this an IC Character Comm, with some limitations...) Joining this community is optional, but be realistic about whether or not your character would check it out and post there. Non-members cannot post here.

OOC Communities

damned_lounge
Main out-of-character community, used for mod announcements and communication between players. Everything here has to directly do with apps or in-game events: Use it to make announcements, coordinate threads, ask questions--all that official stuff. Joining this community and friending it is mandatory. You may post here with either your character journal or your personal journal. Non-members are free to post here so long as they abide by the aforementioned guidelines.

Second out-of-character community, used for all the extra stuff that doesn't fit into the Lounge. This is where you post up fanworks, macros, funny RP-related stories, fake character threading, rambling, and all that fun stuff. You can even propose a meme or a game for one of our mods to put up! (However, please check out this comm's userinfo for its rules before you proceed with posting.) Joining this community is optional. You may post here with either your character journal or your personal journal. Non-members are free to post as much as they want!

The community where the head mods and NPC mods discuss how to organize upcoming events, brainstorm plot details, and assign different roleplaying responsibilities. R U L E S

•	Read over all of the pertinent Gameplay Guidelines before you proceed with applying for a character or posting in any of the communities.
•	Maintain an attitude of respect and professionalism towards both your fellow players and your moderators.
•	Maintain a standard of acceptable writing quality and canon-based characterization at all times.
•	Do not godmod or overstep the specific pre-agreed boundaries set on your character's abilities.
•	Ensure that your character regularly interacts with people outside of their own canon and (optimally) outside of your immediate group of friends.
•	Stay reasonably active with your character and inform us of a hiatus if you temporarily become too busy to participate.
•	Regularly communicate with fellow players to avoid any possible misunderstandings.
•	Read and comply by all the posts and updates made by moderators to the OOC communities.

NPC Mods play nurses, monsters, non-player patients, visitors--basically anyone who isn't a regular character. We have a bunch of them to make sure players are always taken care of, (and we can always use more!) so we can't list them all here, but rest assured that we appreciate their time and effort greatly!
