Nightshift 31: Main Hallway 2-East
[Coming from here.]

Daemon slipped out of the stairwell into the dark hall on the second floor, shining his flashlight around to illuminate the blackness that lay thick and heavy in the corridor. Stepping out of the doorway, he kept on his guard and alert, waiting for his father and brother to join him while he watched for any sort of attack.

Lucivar followed only a half a step behind Daemon. The black was unsettling which was odd since Lucivar had never been afraid of the dark before. But this wasn't the same Darkness he was used to. There was something wrong with this black, something that prickled at his nerves and kept his rage close to the surface. He turned his head to reassure himself that his father was following, not wanting to lose either of them. Who knew what sort of tricks or traps they could spring?

Rest assured, Saetan was right where Lucivar expected him to be. It didn't take the dark for this so-called Institute to unsettle his nerves, but he didn't think it would help for his sons to see him ratttled by something so simple as air.

His ears strained for any noises from nearby, but so far the darkness seemed to muffle sound, like a thick blanket. He flexed his hands, almost into fists, and stepped up to be almost beside Lucivar.

Jack slid out from the stairs and motioned to the right. "Come on, it's this way," he said quietly and headed towards the center hall.

No one was in the upper hall, but Okita paused at the top of the stairs anyway. There was no use in moving recklessly, or to wear them all out before they got to their goal. He could hear people talking from down the hall, but no one was in their immediate vicinity. Crouching low for a moment, he listened carefully for anyone approaching and then motioned to the boys behind him. Time to move on.

He slipped forward into the hall and turned right, keeping close to the wall as he pushed onward.

[and more moving]

The second floor here appeared to be empty, at least physically.

The Force was another matter entirely. Qui-Gon had to stop and close his eyes, centering himself as a wave of others' fresh pain assaulted in him in the Force. It was particularly strong upstairs. Frowning, the Jedi Master took a few breaths, acknowledged the pain for what it was, and opened his eyes, determined. Right now it was an unfortunate fact that he couldn't dismantle this place. The only thing he could do at this very moment was to find out more information, learn more and try to elevate the pain of others.

He knew this and yet he couldn't deny the dark ripple of anger that flowed past him. It wasn't a very Jedi-like emotion, but he couldn't resist the flare of it spiking up even so. Night after night of this. And there was still no real explanation for why Martin Landel played these games with the lives of other beings.

His hand tight around the flashlight, Qui-Gon pushed the anger aside, unable to entirely conquer it for now.

Siegfried paused at the top of the stairs and took out the map of the second floor. There were notes written across it indicating the names of the rooms and halls. He followed sketched halls on the map, and found where he was headed. It was the same route he’d taken the previous night with Peony and Haseo. Perhaps, he thought, he should take a detour and see what was left in those rooms? The previous nightshift had ended before he’d had the chance to find out what the rooms contained.

[Coming with Qui-Gon from here"]

The cold, hard truth, and no attempt to try and make it seem any easier to take. That suited Sanzo just fine.

By the time they'd arrived at the main hallway, Sanzo's eyes had fully adjusted to having a light source present. It was a familiar sight, especially since he'd come this way several times already. Now he had a good idea of his bearings.

"So I take it you haven't found anything of interest yet."

Qui-Gon's voice was almost wry in the dark. "No, not exactly. Unless you count yourself."

There was something to be said about safety in numbers, just from a common sense point of view. But he was also concerned about Sanzo; the man seemed to be fine from what he could tell, but he wasn't armed. And while Qui-Gon believed that he was some kind of Force Sensitive, he wasn't sure just how much Earthians like himself knew about harnessing it to defend themselves.

He turned his flashlight on his map.

"As you can see, this is incomplete. I intend to try to complete it if I can," he said. He could barely see the outline of Sanzo's face in this kind of lighting. It was up to Sanzo if he wanted to come along or not. If he didn't, then Qui-Gon would be escort him somewhere safe - if there was such a thing in Landels - and go on his way.

After standing around and arguing in the stairwell for what seemed like forever, Scar finally reached the stairs. He glanced around, but the hall seemed relatively safe for now. There were a few patients standing around, but otherwise the hallway was empty.

"As I highly doubt you had come all the way to the stairwell just to have a pleasant conversation with me, where do you intend to go?" he asked his companion for tonight. "I had intended to explore, so I am fine with any direction."

He had no idea what hallway lead to which area, anyway. He only recognized the railed area further up ahead, which was practically their only landmark. All of these halls looked nearly identical to the feline.

Mozenrath folded his arms and pouted his lips. "I intend to find either my usual companion or, more importantly, my gauntlet. If you have the slightest idea where I might find either..."

He trailed off. What if Scar did? He wasn't going to give the man a medal or any sort of commendation. Up to this point, he'd been rather uncooperative, even now Mozenrath knew it was only a lull in their pissing contest. "...do tell."

Once at the top of the4 stairs, Beatrix paused, herself and Rena melded into the shadows against the wall. The last time she'd been on this level of their prison, it had been to rescue Mion from torture. Her eyes cast toward the hall that would have taken them to where that had occurred, but only for a moment.

Leaving the lingering feel of of what she'd like to do to those doctors, the Bride headed toward the right to the next hall over.

Jack hurried the best he could to drag himself and Lust a fair distance down the hall before he stopped to lean against the wall. He HURT like hell and had the sinking suspicion he didn't want to see the severity of his burns. Then again, Lust had deep wounds of her own and probably wouldn't want to put up with his whining, so he chose to inquire instead, "Got any idea where we should retreat to, babe?"

"There's a clinic of sorts in the men's hall," Lust said, feeling better that they were away from that demonic girl. And had realized she wasn't in any danger of bleeding to death. Painful as the cuts were, they weren't life threatening.

"Room 35. I'll need bandages and you'll need whatever it is they do for burns."

Moving fully out into the hallway, Sora glanced at the other patients who were around. He couldn't make them out very well in the darkness, but he hoped none of them were heading in the same direction as they were. That hadn't gone over very well when he had been with Rena last night, though the Aidou boy they had run into in the end had been nice enough.

He glanced back to Kairi and then pointed forward. "Straight from here, right?" It looked like she might just have to do some navigating after all.

Haku moved easily into the hallway. given how out of it he was feeling, he was amazed he hadn't been attacked or killed already. He hadn't found Zabuza-san anywhere and finally, he knew he would have to come up here to search for the supplies he needed.

Right above where Willow's room was, wasn't that what Anya had said?

Angel cast a glance over to his left, recalling the narrow corridor on the hand drawn map he'd taken. That was probably what Anya had been referring to.

He slipped quietly through the hallway, hoping nothing would surprise him along the way.

(Staggering from here.)

The darkness of the hallway seemed to press in at his eyes. Haku was finding it hard to drag air in past the sharp pain in his throat and he brought up a hand, sticky with blood, to lightly touch the bruises there.

He managed a few more steps, but couldn't remain on his feet for long and slumped against the wall. He would only rest for a moment then try again.

He could still see that place in his mind, the yawning black cavern that had filled him with fear and panic. He fought against the emotions return, trying to put the pain and fear out of his mind. He had to get to safety. In this state, he was an easy target.

Now that the initial irritation with his brother had subsided, Dean felt elated by the hope they'd find something of use tonight. He cast an indiscreet glance at the other man as he walked alongside him, looking head-to-toe at the uniform he didn't have to wear. Cocking his head to one side as though to dismiss the idea of taunting, he continued with a soft grimace.

"So, how was your day?" He asked in a quiet drawl, flicking his torch this way and that to monitor the floor. "Dull, tedious, or just plain boring?"

It seemed like quite a few people had had the same idea that Adelheid had. Not that he was surprised; a fair number seemed to stop this way at night, and wasn't this a night for the patients? He was tempted to go see them, but... no. If they had someone to rely on, then those people would already have moved. Adelheid had to keep moving, himself. Onward, as always, and always on the alert.
