Nightshift 26: M11-20 Hallway
Yuber had gotten the items from Cloud previously, before the shorter blonde had disappeared back in the hallways. Where ever they had gone was of no matter to the knight considering he had received what he needed, and if he was trusted enough with these potential weapons Yuber wasn't certain if he should consider this Cloud to be a fool yet or not. Yet again that would depend on just how inventive Usopp could be with what was provided. It would be interesting to say the least.

Toying with the few long blades in his possession, Yuber remained casually sprawled out on his mattress as the radio clicked off after the doctor’s announcement. If he had heard it correctly, Yuber summarised that the locations given were of some form of interest, and it left the knight wondering just what way this interest fell.

Was if towards Chaos or more towards Order?

The fact that it was now the night time lead him to believe that it was more the former than the latter, and with an amused smile pulling at his lips, Yuber elegantly pushed himself up from the bed. He stretched out his muscles before turning his attention down to his pillow, and after withdrawing the flashlight from beneath it Yuber set out with one destination in mind.

He needed to meet back up with Usopp.

Knocking on M16's door

[from here]

Made it to the right hallway, and with all of his limbs attached and his relevant bodily fluids in place. Even the universe was on his side today, it seemed. Jack counted his way up the rooms until he got to M16 and then knocked.

Even the knock sounded cheerful.

Though he did manage to not have a shit-eating grin on his face for when the door opened. And he had the skillet at the ready, just in case. He knew better than to assume that he was getting anything, but it never hurt to just think about the possibility.

Javert stood up as the doors unlocked, retrieving his aluminum bat and his pillowcase before glancing at the other side of the room. Whoever his roommate was - Rackham, hadn't the nurse said? Well, it probably wasn't his real name anyway - he hadn't shown up to dinner, and that was slightly worrying. He was sure he'd seen him this morning.

Still, it wasn't any of his business. He didn't even know the other man. And Trevelyan and St. Just would be waiting.

Switching on his flashlight - the beam didn't seem nearly as bright tonight, for some reason - he stepped out into the hallway.

After he prepared whatever supplies he needed for the night, Axel slipped out of his room and wandered down the hallway in his usual pace. There was a lot he planned to do, but it was probably best to move along using baby steps. Though there was something that caught his eye as he passed down.

Was that... was that someone waiting in front of Luxord's door? The redhead blinked twice, stopping to stare at the man for several seconds before shaking his head in sympathy.

"Right." And with that he continued onward.

A man whose background is as varied in bloodshed as it is the flora and fauna.

Homura would have to remember to ask Ken about that when it came time for the next dinner. Homura had gotten to see firsthand how it was when the nurses showed up, and dragged a reluctant patient off. And what interesting results it seemed to have in the end; the moment Homura stepped out of his room, a weight came down on him, as if the air had somehow been thickened.

This night seemed promising.

And indeed, it'd already yielded good results. Ken's taking had given Homura a perfect opportunity to test the monster's blood unwatched, and the results were everything he had hoped they would be. Only a couple of drops, and his injuries were healed completely. The coat from the closet gave the man a place to carry the precious bottle, and Homura made sure it was tucked deep, not visible just from looking at him. His pillowcase would be used as a bag, and the shreds he had been wearing the last time he went upstairs went into it.

All that remained were the flashlight, the katana, and after a moment of consideration, the radio. Let's see what the man would have to say. Everyone had seemed so interested in it the night before, hadn't they? That went into a pocket as well, while the pillowcase was tucked into his waistband. The other items he simply carried.

Armed and ready, Homura headed out, moving quickly through the halls. He didn't want to waste unnecessary time there, as he had a feeling that Hijikata would abandon him if he grew impatient, and that'd be no fun.

[[Coming with a minor concussion from here]]

Miku rounded the corner and looked around again. The hall was empty.

"Soujirou-san?" she whispered and heard it echo off the walls. "Soujirou...san...?" Miku put her bad hand to the back of her head. A goose egg was forming, a nice sized one too. Well, she'd just have to add that to her list.

Giving up on her quest, for now, Miku went back to the beginning of the hallway and out to the between hall again.

Slipping into the hallway, Reno leaned back against the wall, facing close to where Rufus's room was. If the President felt inclined to poke his head out the door to figure out where the hell his Turk was, he could spot Reno without a problem.

"I talked to them, yeah," he said. "No problems with my people." Except Elena's minor thing with Highwind, but that was hardly a big issue. "Yours?"

Barret made an almost casual glance aimed for the crowd of people. He sighted the blood as well, but was reluctant to jump into the fray. If there was an injury, there seemed enough people around to assist in a fight or healing. Besides, healing wasn't his forte anyway.

He followed Reno, his thoughts drifting once again to the earlier conversation with his friends. "Only got resistance from Yuffie. Vince and Tifa never showed..." the tone in his voice carried obvious worry, despite how he tried to cover it. Some emotions were too thick to hide. He knew something was wrong, that they may be gone from the institute. He simply hoped they didn't have to experience what it was like to die, no matter the timeline they came from, "She still ain't said for sure if she's all good for the idea. Heh, she was shocked I made the suggestion. Kinda shocked myself, I guess."

"Now why am I not surprised the ninja brat isn't too happy?"

Not surprised nor concerned. Yuffie was hardly the strong vote in AVALANCHE. As long as the others were in - especially Strife - it was all he needed. Besides, he suspected if she was the odd man out, she'd join in soon enough.

Reno tipped his head back against the wall, peering thoughtfully up at the ceiling. Of the missing names, one caught his attention in particular.

"Lockhart didn't show?" His own concern was better hidden than Barret's, masked by the casual inquiry - but that he'd bothered to make note of her disappearance at all said something. Of AVALANCHE, Tifa remained the only one he ever did give a damn about. Her and Aerith...but Aerith was dead. "Guess that puts the head count at four for you guys, huh?"

Barret shrugged at the mention of Yuffie. There still remained a twitch of guilt in his gut when he thought of her. She had been angry at him, and for good reason. He knew and understood his rage. What he understood best was his lack of control over it. He lashed out at a young girl. While irritating as Palmer on a lard tirade but not quite as vomit inducing, she was still much younger than himself and should have executed more discipline. Even in a place such as the one they were trapped in, there were things that were occurring within it that were making him aware of his shortcomings.

He happened to notice Reno linger on Tifa and the fact she was AWOL with a lifted brow, but cast it off as curiosity. She was a powerful, strong woman and ally. He missed her presence greatly. She was the only one he'd encountered in all his life besides his deceased wife that had the ability to cool his temper when it seemed to be approaching record breaking temperatures, "Yeah....better than nothin'. Feels weird, bein' in such a situation without the whole gang. Bet it's similar with y'all, ain't it? Hell, ain't even like you can consider Elena a Turk, bein' so young and not even knowin' nothin' about our world as he know it."

Ichigo had slipped on the coat he'd found in his room, pocketed the radio and grabbed his flashlight before he headed out on this night. He actually had enough foresight to slip on the slippers provided this time, and he feet were instantly grateful. They weren't what he was used to, but it felt a lot better than going around this place barefoot.

He shined his flashlight up and down the hall outside of his room before he headed down the hallway. Tonight's mission was easy: get a look around. Ichigo was still trying to devise a way out of this illusion, and if he explored more perhaps he would find it.

And not a moment too soon. He wanted out of this strange place now.

Balthier was unclear on how time passed in this establishment, but it felt as though he had just been here not too long ago. This time when he walked outside it was easier to observe that the other patients went about their business as if this were perfectly normal. It was routine. He slipped into the routine with them, gathering what supplies he had.

It wouldn't have been obvious to anyone that Balthier was new or even remotely unsure of himself as he strode out of his room purposefully. In all honesty he didn't know where he was going, but he had a vague idea of locating some more familiar faces. He had proof that they were here, but the size of the institute was hiding them.

No matter, he supposed. He had all night to look.

It didn't take long for Homura to lead the others down the hall and into the bedroom he shared with Ken. He pointed out which dresser and bed were his before heading to his closet, placing the bag on the floor there and leaning his katana against the wall before beginning to strip away his coat and shirt. While the blood's effects had been strong, clear wounds still remained on the demi-god's skin from their earlier battle.

There was much to discuss, and Homura had no doubt that Hijikata wanted a measure of privacy with Okita. But Homura wasn't one to waste time, so he took the opportunity to speak first. "I am the one who Hijikata spoke of on the board, Okita. Once I have a new sword, I plan on giving you this katana."

Hijikata didn't speak on the way to Homura's room. There was something about the simple measure of familiarity that went far beyond words, and he was glad for it. He would have worked on his own without complaint to build the strength he needed to find his way back home, but he knew the value of having someone he could trust, one of his own shinsengumi.

Homura had made his intentions clear already. He could be trusted to act according to that, no more and no less. Hijikata could respect that much. He carried his own bag towards the closet and let it rest there for now.

Homura went straight to the point, and Hijikata nodded in confirmation. He sat on the edge of Homura's bed and folded one leg beneath him, letting the other rest on the floor. His shoulder was stiff and caked with blood where the snake head had bitten him, but the gold liquid was nothing short of miraculous. Hijikata knew without looking that he was in no danger from what injury was left, so he addressed the more pressing concerns first.

"Homura-san, you understand the limits of our co-operation. There will be no pointless fighting but, if it comes to that, I will not hesitate to turn that sword against the rebel you've allied yourself with. Are you ready to accept that as well?"

With the others already in the room, Okita slid in and shut the door behind him. Homura was quick to change clothing and Okita glanced over to check his condition. Although the wounds appeared to be moderate, it was evident that earlier the danger had been grave. The amount of blood that soaked into the two men's clothing said that much, leaving Okita to wonder how they had healed so quickly. Instead, he sat down on Ken's bed, ankles together and slightly to the side. He was so used to sitting in this position that, even without his kimono on, he automatically reverted to it.

When Homura turned and announced his intent, Okita could only stare at him for a moment. Give him a sword? Was Homura mad? It wasn't like Okita wouldn't take the gift - by all means he was estactic to know that something was waiting for him - but no one in their right mind would give Okita Souji a sword. At least, not without expecting something in return. Hijikata had been given undying loyalty, so what did Homura want from him? More than likely it was his skill in battle, so Okita smiled at him and bowed his head.

"If you're willing to arm a demon, I'm happy to accept and offer my services so far as I can." He hadn't ignored what Hijikata had said. In fact, he still somewhat agreed with him. Homura had allied himself with the Battousai, a man who had killed his friends and taken away what Okita knew as home. That alliance could not be completely ignored, and now that Hijikata had spoken, Okita would not disobey his command. By now, however, the younger swordsman was well-tuned to sensing when bad feelings were about to arise, and he quickly spoke up again. "Seeing as Himura-san doesn't wish to fight, I doubt that we will be having too many problems with him. As long as he doesn't give us a reason, we won't need to unnecessarily bare our fangs. Don't you agree, Homura-san?"

"If he attacks you first, then by all means, defend yourself." Homura didn't know Kenshin well at all, but anyone who asked for a sword that couldn't kill likely wouldn't be the first to strike without some sort of outside influence--such as the very Institute they stood in. "But I have to insist that neither of you try to provoke him into it. The alchemists were concerned about that very thing, to the degree that you'd be delayed in getting a blade until Himura had his own, Okita." The demi-god paused long enough to put on a fresh shirt, then grinned. "I have to gather metal for a replacement sword for myself, and there will be two nights of service to the alchemists in exchange. I'd like you to take care of one of them, as you would have had to do anyway."

And that was that, as far as Homura was concerned. Of course, there would be a greater price later, but that could only be discussed once Homura's plans were more firmly set.

Picking up the coat, Homura fished out the items he had stored in the pockets: his radio, his map, and the vial of golden blood. None seemed the worse for wear, though the top edge of the map was now stained red. Still, it wasn't so bad that Homura couldn't read it, and he opened it up.

"I don't suppose either of you can draw reasonably well." He held up the papers. "I need copies of this made. The map from the Arts and Crafts group you contacted, Hijikata. Though it seems they had no knowledge of the area we explored just now." It'd be a tempting treat for Hitsugaya at breakfast, even if Homura had to make the copies himself. Still, it never hurt to ask.

Kyouya walked swiftly. He didn't have much to show for all of his time in this prison, but he knew the drill by now. He had stayed in last night, seeing no point to travel with no plan and no realistic objective in sight. Every day, he observed more people arriving, and while some would disappear like Haruhi, no one ever seemed to think that they'd escaped.

And if it was to be believed, this wasn't even the world as he knew it. Escape wasn't so simple. It might not even be possible. It probably wasn't.

Kyouya had given himself to this cold despair for some time, but hiding in his room wasn't an option forever. No, he hadn't been hiding. Thinking long and hard, making notes, and compartmentalizing all the traumas and indignities into something smaller, more controlled.

As long as you forced yourself to have the right perspective, things didn't have to be so different from home.
