Nightshift 24: Sunroom
From here

Kazuo made his way into the sunroom, and didn't see anyone there yet. He stopped and listened for sounds. Nothing. He glanced back at Usopp. "It looks empty," he said quietly, "but keep your voice down. We need to listen for anything that's coming."

He looked around and saw nothing but tables and chairs as usual.

Usopp nodded, maybe a bit too frantically, and glanced around. It looked... innocent enough, but even if there were no monsters, the possibility of crazed patients coming after them was threatening enough to keep him quiet.

He kept close to Kazuo's back... maybe a little uncomfortably close, really, not quite hiding behind him, and kept one hand around the heavy light projector just in case.

There was no sense in asking "Which way is the game room?" since Kazuo was still leading, so he remained silent during the walk through the sun room. The windows should have seemed promising as exits, but he had the feeling that even if he could break through the glass, there wouldn't be an easy way to get down and he'd still probably be behind walls.

Kazuo glanced back and glared at him. He was too close. "Stay back a little," he whispered. "If I have to jump back I don't want to run into you and take a chance on falling down."

He pointed to the door on his right. "That's it. Let's go in and wait there."

Usopp himself jumped back at the glare, looking rather guilty. "S-sorry," he whispered back. "Okay." He headed towards the door, still keeping behind Kazuo and waiting for Kazuo to open it himself--just in case something was waiting to jump out. But he kept his distance this time, and began glancing over his shoulder, increasingly aware of how easy it would be for someone to spot them in a room like this.

Kazuo opened the door, and hearing nothing, started in inside, shining the flashlight briefly around. "Okay, it seems clear. Let's go."

Larsa didn’t quite know how to feel to find that he had been the first one to make it to the Sun Room. Part of him felt relieved to know that he had not left the two waiting, but the majority of his emotions lay with worry over his new friends. He once hoped dearly that at least one of them would have provided a room number for him, but Larsa knew he must put his trust with his comrades.

Still, he couldn’t help but worry for their safety. As the child gave a general sweep of the area with his flashlight, he found two other individuals in the room. However, they appeared to have plans of their own so he quietly let them be, instead meandering over to the bulletin to catch up with what he'd yet to read.

[and arriving from here]

Finally, they made it to the Sun Room. Penelo could have let out a sigh of relief... But then she saw Larsa standing by the bulletin board and grinned. Such good timing!

"That's my friend Larsa!" She exclaimed to Protoman. "Uh, the Game Room is over there," She pointed to it's direction, hoping Protoman and Kazuo wouldn't mind if she just spoke to Larsa for a few moments.

In truth, she was a bit worried. She didn't see Gabranth anywhere. It seemed unlikely that Gabranth would willingly let Larsa go out on his own, so Penelo thought something had happened.

"Hey, what's up?" She greeted her friend. "Did something happen?"

"Oh, Penelo!" Well this certainly was a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. Larsa was relieved to find his friend with company, smiling and bowing towards the man with her.

"'Tis a pleasure to meet you," Penelo's next words coaxed a frown out of the boy, however, doing his best to hide it with a somewhat awkward smile.

"Nothing of the sort. I, uh... Gabranth and I are simply taking different paths this night. T'would prove more efficient that way, you see."

Different paths... For some reason, Penelo had the feeling that Gabranth really didn't have an input in this decision, but she wouldn't pry. Larsa had always the best intentions whenever he did anything, so she knew that it was nothing that she should worry about.

But she did anyway.

"Alright. But are you alone tonight?" There was no way she could let Larsa go on his own. "If you're are, you can always come with our group. I don't think anyone would mind, and I know you'll help us out a lot."

Indeed, Gabranth had no input at all. But what was done was done, and Larsa could only hope that the man would not think any less of him. Every minute with someone having awoken from their deathly slumber was a precious thing, and he would make sure to make up for his sins when the time came.

"I am with company actually. Though they seemed utterly helpless when it came to logical reasoning." The child sighed, shaking his head. Though he hadn't heard in on their conversation in the Field, their body language provided enough to convince him as such.

"We were planning to meet here. If that were not so I would not mind joining you. However, I do not doubt the skill you possess, so I have but the utmost confidence that you’ll accomplish something by the end of this evening." Larsa remarked, smile returning whole-heartedly.

There was a fight going on in here. Nel clicked her flashlight beam off, not wanting to attract more attention than was necessary.

Although from what she could see of the fight, from the moonlight coming down from the sun room, it was a human - a patient? - fighting more patients. Special counseling, Shinra had called it.

"Careful," she whispered behind her to the two women. "Our first monster is ahead, and it looks like a friend. On your guard."

She was feeling more protective than she'd imagined she would, especially to a goddess. As if her own power would be sufficient to properly protect and defend someone like Amaterasu! ... Well, she'd do her best.

As soon as she stepped into the room, the great goddess seemed to change.

Before, Amaterasu had been filled with almost puppy-like eagerness, happily leading the way and determined to make sure no harm came to those who followed her. But as soon as she crossed the threshold, she shifted into a defensive stance, a low growl escaping her lips. A demon... she could smell it, even in human form. A demon was attacking all of those people with those vines, mocking nature with his power...

When Amaterasu spoke, it was with a low, very intense tone. "Hokuto. Nel. Go into the room to your left; that's the one with the brushes. Get me one. Hurry!"

And then the great goddess howled. It wasn't the proper response for a human, but she didn't care; she was Okami Amaterasu, the shining light of goodess who existed to banish evil. Even if she had nothing, even if she had only her nails and teeth... she wouldn't stand idly by while a demon attacked others. That howl was the same that had struck terror into the hearts of countless other demons, which had announced her victory over darkness again and again.

Amaterasu had no doubt in her mind that this time, too, she would triumph. Whatever the odds. At the least, she would force that demon to focus on her, and to leave the humans out of their conflict.

Hokuto hesitated, but what the goddess said to do--should be done. Keeping an eye on the battle, she ran for the door indicated as swiftly and silently as she could. Amaterasu wanted brushes; Hokuto planned on grabbing several of those, possibly some paint, and whatever she could find that might work as a weapon. If it had brushes, it was probably an art room--knives weren't likely, but what was?

Guess I'll find out.

((from that thread up thar))

There was something... odd about this one's chi. Not that Hakkai was thinking any too much about it. It was more a point of interest to ponder after he'd dealt with her, odd chi or no.

He smiled a smile with far too many teeth to be any sort of real smile. Bloodthirsty might be one way to describe it. Unless she could match his speed, and he was just conceited enough in this form to sincerely doubt that anyone could match his speed, he would barrel into her, aiming to knock her down and end this fight quickly.

Then again, perhaps he wouldn't. Must entertain himself somehow, after all. Ending the fight too quickly wouldn't be any good at all.

The great goddess wished, at this point, that she yet retained her wolf-like body.

But she was used to monsters with great speed attacking her. She had outrun the blasts of energy from Orochi, she'd flipped over magic spells that most would have had problems dodging... but in this case, she wasn't interested in dodging.

No, the deity met his charge head on. Leaping before she thought, she tried to knock Hakkai to the ground with almost bestial cunning and speed, her nails- if only they had been claws!- instantly going for Hakkai's eyes. The goddess snarled as she did so; if she only had one of her Divine Instruments, this demon would have been banished in an instant!

...for gods, too, were allowed their conceit.

[coming from Cafeteria]

Despite Usopp's bold words, as soon as he reached the door to the Sun Room, he peeked inside, noticing a few more fighters seemed ready to abandon the bloody battle with the fearsome (though, as Usopp had learned, not most fearsome) guardian demon. As he tiptoed into the room, trying to keep to the sides of the room and give the demon a nice wide berth, he started muttering.

"Don't mind me. Just going to my room. Don't want to escape. Terribly sorry. Going right on back to my nice, safe room. Escaping is bad. Don't want to do it. Excuse me."

((Following in from here))

A lot seemed to have happened since he’d left the Sun Room, and as it appeared that those up against this creature were readying for an escape, Yuber found his curiosity drifting over to the demon. There had to of been quite a considerable amount of strength possessed in that individual for it to be able to hold off the continuous attacks on it. Granted, if others in this institution were similar to himself, then they were fighting without their full strength. While it was an interesting concept, the black knight still found the whole situation more annoying and inconvenient than anything else.

His movements though swift, were silent as Yuber sauntered behind his ally. There was nothing but an air of calm around the knight as his attentions drifted back over to where Usopp was, tiptoeing over towards the far side of the room. There was definitely an obvious hint of cowardice from his companion, one which he’d never stand for in an ally, but he would wait until giving judgement and see if his initial thoughts on Usopp proved correct. He had after all witnessed the human remaining in a fight until he was certain that those he allied himself with were out of harms way. Something the knight had witnessed from Usopp out in the courtyard just before.

Usopp felt a tiny bit ill at walking past women and kids fighting--even if the woman did look more battle-ready than him, bloody as she was, and the kids probably were only a couple years younger than him... and they looked about to retreat, and the demon seemed willing in the last fight to let people go if they gave up...

Nami... I'm a worthless coward, aren't I?

But with quiet, quick steps, he found himself by the Sun Room doors and slowly eased them open with his burdened hands, feeling the weight of Yuber following him. He had a sudden, idle curiosity as to whether Yuber would engage in battle with the demon if Usopp asked. Yuber looked so strong, but he didn't seem bothered by walking past the fight at all...

Maybe he's too busy being your bodyguard. You wanted one, right? It's scary in here, after all.

Or maybe Usopp was just very entertaining.

With nothing to currently do but follow, Yuber’s movements kept the knight close behind Usopp as the pair effortlessly made their way over towards the Sun Room exit. The finishing battle no longer interested the knight, but instead Yuber found his gaze drifting over towards the doors lining either side of the Sun Room. He had yet to look inside of them, but with his current situation, now was hardly the time for such things.

As the large doors were pushed open, Yuber reached over the top of Usopp’s head as he held the door for the other to pass through without trouble. Without so much as a glance behind him, the black knight silently slipped through the doors and back into the hallway. There would be ample time for him to cause his own Chaos within these walls, but for now it was best if he figured out what limitations had been placed on his own abilities. Once they were known then he could plan what could be done in the future.

Kenren stepped gingerly into the sun room, footsteps as quiet as he could make them. He stayed near the doors, waiting in silence for his eyes to et used to the darkness, even worse than out in the corridors. He could smell blood.

He reached up to the patch over his eye and quickly undid it, dropping it to the ground. It hurt like hell and for a good few moments he couldn't see a thing, but slowly it adjusted and he could see enough. He got the feeling that he'd need it. The other bandages were next to go. They'd only slow him down if it came to a fight.

He took another few steps into the room.

The ball of chi passed in front of Kenren. Barely. It was a warning shot, and the next wouldn't miss so easily.

"I believe that's quite far enough. Return to your room now." Hakkai didn't actually move far from the corner, but that wouldn't slow his attack too much should Kenren not retreat.

Kenren's eyes widened as the ball of enegry passed in front of him, only just missing him, but he didn't make any move to retreat. He turned instead to face the direction it had come from, finally spotting Hakkai. He looked the youkai over consideringly with now mismatched eyes, slightly gratified to find out he had been right about those ear clips. He was a youkai, powerful one too from what Kenren could guage. Huh, he'd need all he had if it came to a fight which it was looking like it would.

He shrugged, giving the other man his best cocky bastard smirk. "Heh. I know I was late but I didn't think you'd be this pissed off." Huh, he usually had more restraint than that, or at least managed to say it more sneakily. How odd...
