This year, next year [Mar. 27th, 2008|11:48 pm]

First, let me just say how much I enjoyed The Great Cyberdome Exhibition. My photos of the event are now available. Congratulations to both the exhibitors and the organisers.

Secondly, is a 'normal' Beyond Cyberdome planned for next year? I have a student who rather fancies creating a genuine robot (rather than a remote-controlled device) for the event. She's small, blonde and Icelandic, if that helps persuade anyone. :)

I've finished my entry for the Great Crystal Cyberdrome Exhibition.

What are the rest of you working on?

So, what's available to me? [Mar. 12th, 2008|01:57 pm]

I'm working on my model, and would like to make it fully functioning, but I need air pressure. I figure my airbrush compressor, cleverly disguised, will do the job. Will mains power be available to me or do I have to think of something else quickly?

Spending money [Jan. 29th, 2008|09:37 am]

Beyond Cyberdrome has been allocated a budget, mostly for workshop materials, and we've spent very little of it so far. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have for fun stuff we can buy that will enhance the BC experience.

This year the workshop will be concentrating on a single collaborative project: the Beyond Cyberdrome City of the Future. It will be a diorama showcasing an optimistic 1950s vision of London in the year 2008, incorporating Heathrow Interplanetary Spaceport. I want to see monorails, lunar shuttles, airships, flying cars... You get the idea.

I had to share this one - just the sort of thing every streampunk programmer needs. I'll take the Mac version please. :)

I have this plan for a working clockwork laser. More details if and when I get it working... :)

Steamboy [Oct. 2nd, 2007|07:41 pm]

Your first mission, should you choose to accept it, is to watch Steamboy, the steampunk anime film by Katsuhiro Ōtomo (of Akira fame). Not only is it set around the Great Exhibition and contains dozens of really cool retro-futuristic inventions drawn with incredible attention to detail, it's a cracking good story too. Just don't try to make sense of the science...
