Hi cyberabad!

It's been ages since we've had a meet. One of the reasons being that some of the regulars have been falling sick on weekends. This is not bad in itself, but there's no point scheduling a meet you know is going to be an underpowered one from the start. :)

This meeting is special. It goes unannounced. No LJ-SMS'es are being sent out. Also, it's not exactly a flash meet either.. It's been planned a good while ago. We were just waiting for a moment to kick it off. And well, we've reached that moment. :)

If you see this post on time, please do drop in, we'd love you in attendance.. The more, the merrier. :o)

We received no comments with meet suggestions last time. Hopefully we'll get some this time around.. It's a community guys, do suggest your opinions.

the oddities of hyd'bad roads

Here is a list of the most commonly practiced driving styles Hyderabad:

(Those of you who drive or have driven here can relate to these, for the rest its more of an FYI)

The Diagonal Style: This is where you drift across a road, diagonally from left to right or right to left, as slow as possible, preferably taking on a cell phone. It is much better if the road is a heavily used one. This style is best implemented by bikers (yes drifting while talking on the cell phone). Good opportunity for them to get listed Limca book of records for such tactics! They would any day give F&F-Tokyo Drift a run for their money. J

The Wet Style: This is where you drive along with another vehicle. You get wet with people spitting from the vehicle in front of you. To avoid it, you take sudden sharp turns, across the whole length of the road. Wheeee!

The cool style: Some argue that this style is generally fading, but I don't find any evidence to believe so. In this style, you choose a very busy road and drive very slowly, very coolly, right in the middle of the road, with absolute pride and dignity.

The Romeo style: (I don't know why people use this Romeo dude with everything categorized as 'questionable behavior'. poor guy. What did he do?) In this style, you dress in dazzling colors, wear some cool shades and zip through traffic like a millipede. Taking advantage of every crevice and orifice that is half of the size to fit your vehicle is mandatory.

The rebellion style: In this style, every traffic rule must be broken. Stop at green lights, rotate around for orange lights, zip away for red lights.

The fart style: This is where you drive normally and for some reason stop suddenly. Just like that. Gradual easing into the side lanes is strictly prohibited. (If you are wondering why I call it the 'fart' style, it's because you never know when the moment comes, but when it does, all things around you are instantly thrown into the oblivion. It is something that is entirely between you and the moment.)

And Oh! Did I forget to mention. Combine all these styles and you have the grand master of them all, The AUTO-WALLAH style.

Hi Guys,

These past few days have been hell for me. I've been having a string of internet connection problems. All's well now, and I'm back to my high speed broadband connection. It's actually much faster now than it was 10 days ago, but I'm not complaining.

While I've been stranded offline, I've been working on a gallery for the cyberabad offline meets. One that provides bvetter control and statitics. Better image search and complete album control. I'm still working on finetuning some of the modules, but for now, the pics from the latest meet are up! (as also, a few from the last few meets.)

Hey again cyberabad!

sepiaverse dropped in to the city this weekend. We had a meeting to honour her arrival. However, this meet lacked an online post. Probably the first official offline LJ-cyberabad meet that was held without a prior post. Most of you would have received a three SMS updates regarding the meet.

If for any reason you intended to be there but did'nt receive an SMS, I highly recommend you to share your mobile number with the group. I'll have a database up on Guywise.info soon, so you can update your respective profiles directly as and when there are any changes.

(As an aside, we're in dire need of good meet locations, your suggestions for future meets are more than welcome and I think we could cycle through each of them)

We have a few new members I note, but it would be nice to see them interacting in the community as well. You guys are welcome to come for meets, don't feel shy, we'll be nice and promise not to bite.

Also, for best results, do update your own journals from time to time so other members of the community can get to know you better. :o)

Dear cyberabad!

We've decided to have an LJ meet this weekend. Some of you have been expecting it, some of you already knew, but still, you have my apologies for the lateness of this post.

A lot of members have been requesting that we share an offline database of the pics from all the LJ-Meets of the past. They're available online of course (read: http://cyberabad.guywise.info) but if you bring your Wireless capable Laptops, Bluetooth enabled phones or USB Pendrives over to the meet, we'll load them up with stuff you can laugh at for ages! :o) (All copyright © cyberabad of course)

Aside from this, I'll give those interested, a quick technical refresher on the things that LJ lets you do and how to do it. The idea is to make you guys more comfortable using various features in your posts that would probably help spice up you journal entries as well as mod the look and feel to your hearts content. From the oft referenced <LJ-cuts> to how the polling system works to the famous LJ Style Systems V1 and V2. We would also like to hear what you like and don't like about LJ and we'll probably come up with some solutions that the guys at lj_india might find interesting. :)

Hello cyberabad!

We've just concluded another LJ-Meet. (-link-)

For those of you who could'nt make it, you've missed some of the most community centric discussions till date. The intention was to involve as many members as possible in the spread of LJ, city and country-wide. However, due to some unforeseeable circumstances, we had to do with what few could make it to the meet.

catchmanblue was the first to show up at around 4:15 pm or so.
Followed closely by angiasaa at roughly 4:25 pm.
Showing up _before_ the scheduled time is a rather uncustomary (almost rude!) thing, considering the usual laid-back lifestyles of the general Hyderabaddi populace. Showing up two hours late for a critical meeting is quite excusable. :o)

sepiaverse followed close on our heels, clocking in around 5:30. There was a slight location issue, but that was resolved quickly enough. She would have made it earlier if that had not happened. :o)
Note to community: Next time, please suggest an easily accessible location!

valleydayz and gr8deeps showed up once we'd stopped watching our clocks, followed by psychog who had the majority of us convinced he would'nt be able to make it.

A special thanks go out to psychog who not only made it to the meet, but graciously extended his promise of at least 15-minutes to a good three or four hours! :o)

I can tell from the tone of this post, that you're already hating the meandering monotone. I'll try to make it as entertaining as possible, but for those who missed the meet, you'll remain ignorant of the best parts forever. Next time, we look forward to have you sharing every moment with us. :)

Todays meet was special for a couple of reasons. cyberabad has so far discussed community related matters only on a 'scratch-the-surface' level. We've had our share of brainwaves and some moderation/maintenance discussion, but till date, these have been restricted to certain of the older members. (read: Moderators/Maintainers) and at times, shared among the regulars of the Secondary-meets. Most of these discussions have been fruitless since they had certain dream-like qualities. We had the vision, but not the will, determination or in some cases, the funds to put them into practice. Today, the discussion on that front was quite different in comparison....

A post was made on the 3'rd of June by team_lj_india in cyberabad. A few of you have read it, and some of you queried the mods with the word "Relevance". The fact's would take a long time to explain. However, the theory is simple. LJ has decided to widen its usage and acceptance in India. The current footprint of LJ in the country, though large, is far short of India's potential. It is therefore a sensible idea to actively nurture the growth of LJ here in India.

The folks at SUP are working with Team Blogworks, a social media consultancy to kick-start LiveJournal India, they’ll be leading this in collaboration with SUP. (-link-)

Todays meet was special since it was the first real-world interaction between Team Blogworks and cyberabad. sepiaverse flew in from Delhi (not delhi) on behalf of Team Blogworks to be with us today. (it's 1:57 am, but I'll continue saying today for the convenience it offers. I request you to bear with me.) :o)

Various aspects of the community were discussed. Some were as enlightening to us as it might have been to her since we, as a community have not really discussed every thing among our selves in the past. A lot of what cyberabad is today, is what's grown out from the backs of our minds. Most of these, having been shaped and re-shaped by unconscious thoughts and situations (including flames and constructive discussion) over the years of cyberabad's existence. In a sense, we've discovered parts of ourselves as well.

A number of thoughts were brought to the fore, regarding ways to expand LJ's reach in India, as well as keeping LJ alive in existing users minds. We need to build strategies to aid expansion. After a while, it will probably fuel itself, but at first, LJ-India will probably need a little assistance. I have confidence in what we're trying to do. We're a part of LJ-India and I request you all to rise to the occasion, and help bring India back on the map.

Reality is not far from imagination. Think it! If it's viable, I'm sure all efforts will be made to realize your thoughts and ideas!

Lounge Reco-F-Lounge

Cyberabaadis...Red and I finally discovered the elusive F-Tv Lounge in Kondapur...It's in the lane opposite to the TCS building going towards the Kondapur T-junction.

My experience in the F-Bar has been ok as far as the booze is concerned (that too I suspect was because I was already under) but awful when it came to the music and the DJ. But Hitech City boasts no decent pubs, let alone lounges, so we were both kind of looking forward to the F-Lounge.

Anyhow, the relationship manager there, Saida, sent across the promotional pix to me asap so you all are spared looking at the ones I took today.

Check it out, tis good. The food set us back by around 600 and with booze it'll definitely be 1k but as an occasional haunt it's good to go!

But my personal advice is to give it a miss on Sundays...I have feeling that the IT hordes descend there with their offspring in tow and that's enough to curb the buzz that a Sunday afternoon cocktail brings.

FilmCamp.TV is a community of independent filmmakers that don’t pay lip-service to our love for cinema. We believe in making unique cinema rather than talking or dreaming about it. ISB Admits - Class of '09 & LJ Meet

It's been a while since I've posted here.

I'm wondering if anyone on this community has been admitted into the Indian School of Business(ISB) for the Class of 2009 which begins in April 2008. I've been offered admission for this term and would be great if fellow admits could sync up.

I'd like to meet up everyone on this community sometime over the next 2 weeks. I'll be leaving Hyderabad around Jan 15th for a 3 month break before joining in April 08. Do hope we can have a meet sometime.

Movie Review-Athidhi

Red and I got roped into watching Athidhi last Saturday. And 2 minutes into the movie, Elizabeth Barrett Browning crept into my mind-with a twist..."How do I loathe thee?Let me count the ways."

The movie was pathetic to say the least! Mahesh Babu has a weird pitch to his voice and his acting skills are yet to kick in.

Amrita Rao deserved to be slapped upside her tiny head for acting in this movie. SHE HAD NO ROLE to speak of.
She cried, clung and then spoke in a ghostly tone, reminiscent of the House of Ramseys.

Ashish Vidyarthi has fallen on bad days indeed, when he will take up a role which has him in dreadlocks and in need of a orthodontist urgently! He hissed, he spit, he shook his manes trying to summon up the forces of evil and all for naught.

The villian Kaiser (Murali Sharma), clearly in a Janus-like role, clings onto the hype that in order to play a psychopath one must laugh uproarious when being evil and have nervous muscular tics... DSM time people!!

Mahesh Babu may have had chocolatey good looks but now chubby cheeks rule the roost and a head of hair that made me itch to get my shears.

The songs are boring, the dance sequences are dull and unimaginative and the lead pair dance like they have fireants climbing up their legs.

The worst part of the movie? Malaika Arora. Who in the world asked that woman to prance around and jiggle her protruding booty like a 2-bit hooker?

Opinion- Give it a miss. It's 2 thumbs down and more!

Where have all the followers gone?

Well, here's something some of you might be interested in. It's a course (for those among us who have been in search of one) That's skewed toward the psychological geniuses and dreamers of Hyderabad.

I'm not sure how many of you are interested in this, but I remember someone making a post a long long time ago regarding Courses in Counseling et al. It's also quite likely that it is of relevant interest to many more among the community..

Spy camera on a hill

Hyderabad gets its own version of the eye-in-the-sky, a set of 4 spy cameras, according to this Hindu article.

"The uniqueness of the system is its capability to view images during the night and the face of a person or number of a vehicle as far as six km. The cameras also help to view and record images till a distance of 15 km."

The cameras are pointed at the city from atop a building at the edge of the city and remotely controlled via an IP circuit. Fancy technology indeed, but there is no mention of accountability in all that journalistic prose. As a society we need to grow a healthy distrust of all things "big-brotherish" to remain free and democratic. The lesser we question institutional safeguards, the more the chances become that there will exist none.

The guardians of the law have a duty to keep the city safe, but there is also a question of ensuring that the technology will not be misused. How does this prevent the creation of a very powerful voyeur cam? Are we sanctioning the creation of unlimited copies of camera recordings to be collected and stored? Who will have access to these recordings? Our laws that protect your right to private phone conversations were certainly not created at a time when such fancy technology could be envisaged. Whither are the debates that should drive this decision? There are important questions to be answered before the city plonks down serious cash that could just as well be used to pave the roads on my morning commute to make it a little less worse.

Hi ya...all of you....:)....

This meet should go down as the first requested one out of a Corporate Fortress!!!......With the whole of Electronic Surveillance and all, I thus take the audacity to Call for an Lj meet..., at ahem...., the oh so dearest Mocha....:)....4.30 pm, this Sunday....the 2nd of Dec...

and yeah...this shall also be the cripiest and the shortest meet request...coz I gotta hit back work.....:).....

Wel....time again is ripe indeed for me to call for an lj meet..., just figured out that the last meet we have had was way some time back....

Lj Cyberabad...is going barren for a lot of time now..., we need more meets...more blogging activity too....,

just about time to call in for more requests...lets just hope it rings in with this request 'call for an lj meet posty'.....

I am not sure how to add a link or post the same stuff on here...but i just wrote about the bhuvanagiri fort outside hyderabad...its beautiful and anybody who is into monuments should check it out...
