LJ-Meet:  Saturday, 28th of June, 2008
Dear [info]cyberabad!

We've decided to have an LJ meet this weekend.  Some of you have been expecting it, some of you already knew, but still, you have my apologies for the lateness of this post.

A lot of members have been requesting that we share an offline database of the pics from all the LJ-Meets of the past.  They're available online of course (read: http://cyberabad.guywise.info) but if you bring your Wireless capable Laptops, Bluetooth enabled phones or USB Pendrives over to the meet, we'll load them up with stuff you can laugh at for ages!  :o)  (All copyright © [info]cyberabad of course)

Aside from this, I'll give those interested, a quick technical refresher on the things that LJ lets you do and how to do it.  The idea is to make you guys more comfortable using various features in your posts that would probably help spice up you journal entries as well as mod the look and feel to your hearts content.  From the oft referenced <LJ-cuts> to how the polling system works to the famous LJ Style Systems V1 and V2.  We would also like to hear what you like and don't like about LJ and we'll probably come up with some solutions that the guys at [info]lj_india might find interesting.  :)

Details, Details!  :)

Well, dunno if there's anyone who stays near your area has plans to come to the meet, or we'd make sure you got a ride. :(

I hope we have a whole truckload of people from further away than hyderabad's close confines. :) Hopefully, we'll have more members from your area too. :P

My place is not very centrally located. Besides, I have two rabid dogs, and am not sure how [info]cyberabaddies would take that. :)

Aside from that, it's actually a brilliant idea! Guys, anyone have an empty house somewhere central(ish)? :)

It's a deal! :)

You've been duly updated in the list of attendees. :)

The story shall be told, but as for the snaps, there's a hiccup. No official cameraman. :) But we'll arrange something anyway.

Gotta keep the masses interested.

Seriously, is there no other place apart from Mocha? It has been Mocha for like decade now.

Apart from my soul that's going to get tortured meeting at Mocha every single time.

How about We've-never-heard-of-this-place-before for LJ meet?

Why do we want centrally located?
a. Maybe, we can lure more people to attend?
b. Maybe, its convenient for everyone to attend?
c. Maybe, we have access to amenities & necessities? If you know what I am talking about ;)

None of these reasons are strong enough to meet at the same darn place every single time. Trust me c. can be taken care of almost anywhere in the city.

Let's make LJ meets a little more exciting shall we... * and then I propose *

How about
- Picking a location in the city which is not centrally located.
- Never picking the same place next time.

Downside -
- might not be convenient to get there
- not everyone has their own transport, might need to rely on public transportation which can suck.

Upside-
- New & exciting place
- Eventually we would have checked out every corner of the city
- This community would've by far hung out in every plausible place in the city. I say this because, every meet we do a good job of putting up some sort of synopsis either as a post or pics; and this adds to collective-knowledge in this lj community.

It's really not that hard. We meet at a place just for the heck of knowing a different neighborhood/location. It need not be pre-planned.

Personally, even randomly dropping in at an Irani Cafe in old city and claiming the territory for a LJ meet counts as an exciting(new) place. :)

Again, all this is what I am "proposing". I do understand it's easy to propose sitting on my ergonomic chair. But, honestly, isn't it time to move out of Mocha?

It's been time to move out of Mocha for ages now. :)

Your arguments are good, but fall short to a small extent. Probably one crucial point you missed was the fact that the community is not even fractionally as enthusiastic as it once used to be able to boast about (Remember the days when we used to be the most active LJ community <in the world!>, they've long faded.) :(

With enthusiastic members, you can take a risk with far flung locations. With a good number of people, even far-flung places become reachable to the reluctant ones if you have enough of an active crowd. Unfortunately, even once-upon-a-time regulars from the past have turned into workaholics who stare at Screens flashing MS Outlook into their eyes. :(

LJ does not pay. Neither for the meets, nor for the transportation, and definitely not for their time. They won't show up till they lighten up once again. :(

[info]psychog and I have both been frustrated about Mocha, but the statistics prove that Mocha helps to pull in the crowd. Central location, Relative safety, decently comfortable surroundings, option for open-air or claustrophobic seating, etc. We do try different spots sometimes, but with hardly any success.

All this said, I do agree with you on a fundamental level. Mocha is monotonous!! BIG TIME!

What we need is some influx of new blood in the community. New blood that makes an effort to be active. [info]cyberabad has gone more offline than online. It used to be the other way once, and I truly miss that.

Most of the Maintainers (read: All!) don't even visit the community or at least that's my understanding. How about we get back into being regulars and actively work toward kicking some life back into [info]cyberabad's genetics? I know you, and I know you're well capable of ruling the roost. This comment of yours shows you still have it in you to release bolts of energy charges. :))

Deal? :-P

OMG dude, you're incredible. You just said everything that i wanted to (but was too sleepy to type) and more. If the force be with me, i'm never gonna let you die. Infact i am gonna buy you from ur folks. I will never have to talk/type long then.

oh btw, if you ARE being sold, kindly leave the two rabids behind. You can take it as a request from your future owner if it pleases you.

Hell yeah!

"LJ does not pay. Neither for the meets, nor for the transportation, and definitely not for their time."

Thankfully! If it did we would lose the very charm of these meets.

"Probably one crucial point you missed was the fact that the community is not even fractionally as enthusiastic as it once used to be"

Enthusiasm needs a host....and then it spreads. :)
