all the weird ones are set loose
recap: asian waitress in an Aussie restaurant

it's been a while since i posted. some waitresses got fired and i have to replace their shifts, but in return, i did get more freedom to control situations better than before :)

obviously though, that also meant i have more bitchy customers to deal with.

just a slight background for the stories tonight: our restaurant is near some movie theaters, and live drama theaters, as well as a "street" theater for art house dramas stage by students and professionals alike. Also, within this weekend or the next, there's an international triathlon competition occurring, so there's quite a number of international/non-local customers in store tonight.

a few nights ago, i had a couple who were sitting outside, smoking and drinking, and just being really quiet about everything. They ordered a well done steak at about 6, when it was all quiet. but the choice of cut they had meant that it would take at least 40 minutes to cook those steaks, despite the fact that it was the quiet bit of the night and things do get cooked faster. This was told to them, as per our practise, and they nodded and accepted garlic bread as entrees while waiting on their mains.

when i took over that section at 6.30, i was told to tell them their meals would be out shortly, as it seems they were in a hurry. they had to be at the theater by 7. i was pretty shocked, but i went and told them exactly what i was told to, to which the woman started bitching at me,

"THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! WE WAITED AN HOUR FOR OUR STEAK!!" (a blatant lie, because i arrived early for my shift, and i saw them sit down and took their order at about 6)

"i am sorry ma'am, but the choice of your cut, and the choice of it being cooked well done does take a while to fulfill..."

"i don't care! we have waited ages! we have to go to the theater! we were just about to leave."

"ma'am, just give me some time, i will run to the kitchen and hurry them"

i went in, the steaks were ready. When i took them out, they were gone, their 2 bottles of red wine all emptied. the other table got so angry at their audacity and stupidity that they tipped us 50 bux to cover the drinks. i just felt like shit.

in response, i can only say this: Dear customers, when we say it can take about 40 minutes to cook your damn steaks, listen to us. don't come in an hour before your theater or whatever, and order something we told you would take a while, and then run away because of "bad service". it doesn't work that way.

On a similar thread, a group of oldies came in tonight at 7.30, preparing to go to the theater. They were finally only ready to take orders at 7.45, but didn't mention anything about urgency or the fact that they were going to the theater at all. all of them had some chicken and other light meals, which shouldn't take too long to cook for the kitchen, but obviously still need at least 15 minutes because of the sheer amount of food we have been putting through, and the fact that there's 8 of them to cook for.

at 8 o'clock, they waved at me and insisted, angrily, to see the manager.

"we have waited HALF AN HOUR FOR OUR FOOD!!" (so it appears, these are one of those where they included the time they took to walk to the table as part of the ordering time)

"THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!"

"we are LEAVING!"

"we have to catch a drama at 8.30, and we were intending to leave by 8.15!"

excuse me? you came in at 7.30. you weren't even ready to order at 7.40, and you want to be out by 8.15? you shitting me? In the end, they refused to pay for the food, they refused to stay on and wait, and marched out of the doors before my manager could protest or do anything at all. I have always loved the older generation: they are generally a more understanding, polite and well-tipping lot. however, these are the very people i wish i can throw knives at sometimes.

Finally, this is the jewel of today's suckage.

to begin with, the bar people on duty tonight are very responsible people, as compared to some months ago. they will refuse people drinks if they think they can not handle it. this was something i pointed out a few posts ago.

tonight, a couple of boys who were doing the triathlon was up at the bar, in their full country's regalia and stuff, but also obviously semi drunk because they were joking just a little too loudly, but nothing destructive. they were also hooting away at the next table's group of girls, who were dressed... not very modestly. one had her g string hanging out, and the other had the lace of her bra hanging out the front. that's just barely describing it, but these are important to this story.

the girls ignored the guys, who decided they were probably trying to play the field. and one finally walked over and pulled one of the girls' g strings (the one with it hanging out).

obviously this lead to some screeching, shouting, complaints and what not, and my manager went over to warn  the boys not to do it again, to sit far from the girls if they intend to stay on.  They chose to sit in a corner, and moved on, or so it seemed.

Then another one came over. "hi ladies, i just want to apologise for my brother over there for his actions."

the girls ignored him.

he reached down and pulled her g string out and snapped it, laughing hard in the process with his "bros".

immediately, the girl called the police and said that our manager did nothing, that she was being sexually harassed in a well known restaurant, and a whole lot of feminism issue.

the police came over and charged my manager with indifference to sexual harassment, inability to prevent people from being overtly intoxicated and more...

now, i am not trying to take sides. the boys were utter twats, and if i were my manager, i would have thrown them out as well. the thing was, the girls also continued sitting there, with their asses hanging towards the boys. it's like "you can see, but u can't touch hah!" kinda taunting to me as well.

and honestly, some people need to stop having beer money, just because they can't handle it.

anyways, it seems we might get charged too, the restaurant as a whole, so i will see what comes up next. :(

The first two: Ugh. I've heard of D-and-D-ing but this is ridiculous. If you're in a hurry, GET FAST FOOD. Yes, it's nasty and cheap as hell, but that's why it's FAST. You can't rush quality. Morons.

The third: When someone says he wants to apologize, most people don't tend to see that as a prank. The bartender probably assumed, as would I, that this guy was just there to apologize, until he pulled his shit. But still, if you dress like a slut, and people point it out, yes, they're jerks, but it's still partially your fault for leaving your "fault" in plain view. Wear clothes next time, ladies. I guarantee none of that will happen again. And as I have said before, A CUSTOMER'S BEHAVIOR IS NEVER THE MANAGEMENT'S FAULT.

Sorry, this is not true. I'm a fairly conservative dresser, and I've had my bra snapped in a turtleneck sweater and a guy tried to stick his hand down the back of my jeans when there was no possibly way anything was hanging out. Not in a groping club situation, I should point out-- once in a bookstore and once at a crosswalk. Those girls had every right to wear what they wanted so long as it was legal and not breaching the restaurant's dress code, and they likewise were perfectly in the right to remain at their seats instead of moving away from the men (who were the ones taking action, mind you) or leaving altogether.

I will agree that it seems as though the restaurant staff did everything they could to prevent future upset, and could not have known that the men would continue to act like piglets.

I'm five feet tall with a 36 DD chest. It doesn't matter, short of suffocating under enough layers to make someone sweat in the arctic, you will be able to tell I have a nice rack. I'm used to that and the comments it sometimes garners.

But these asshats reached out and touched and that is NEVER ok without permission and I don't buy the argument that clothing style is tacit permission.

But, as long as managemnt threw the guys out after the second incident, I don't think they deserve to be slapped with harassment.

pointing out that someone is dressing like a slut I can understand. I even support looking at someone, especially in a bar environment.

But grabbing someone's underwear is NOT FUCKING KOSHER. It doesn't matter if she's wearing gramma's bloomers, a twist of fucking tinsel, or nothing at all.

NO TOUCHY WITHOUT PERMISSION, SHITHEAD.

So, going by your logic, if I go out and kill a bunch of people, it's only partially my fault. I mean, they were totally asking for it by being so stupid. Someone was bound to kill them.

Yup, totally justified.

Well, time to go make the evening news...

No, just no. No no no.

I don't care if someone's walking around in a fire engine red PVC bikini with "FUCK ME NOW" painted on her ass. Touching a person or their clothing without invitation is inappropriate at best, possibly assault (depending on the interpretation of your local law authorities). It's absolutely unacceptable.

Seriously, I was in grade eight and therefore in semi-nerdy clothes. I was wearing a tshirt when I was first assaulted. The guy just came straight at me and grabbed my chest. I swear to anyone you want to. (mind you, I don't look my age at all)

My friend was there so she kicked him for me, but seriously! Nothing gives a guy the right to assault someone. NOTHING.

They didn't "point it out". They went up and SNAPPED HER FUCKING UNDERWEAR. What if they'd grabbed her ass? Would that have been her fault too? It does not matter in the slightest how a person is dressed, that kind of behavior is harassment and possibly even battery and is NOT to be tolerated by ANYONE.
And as for saying that women who dress "properly" never get harassed, fuck off and die. You know nothing at all about the realities of sexual abuse.

One would assume that if you're going to wear a G-string that is ABOVE your underwear that you are going to get some negative attention. You can't call
"sexual harassment" if you're asking for it. I am as against sexual preditors as the next person... but if you dress like a whore you're going ot be treated as one. I tend to pity someone who is dressed modestly then someone who is dressed with their panties showing.

If you dont want them pulled don't show them to drunk morons. People who are drunk become as children. They revert to palyground rules... which clearly state that if your underwear is showint in any way it will get pulled or snapped.

As noted above, this is not accurate. Sexual predators will act out against anyone, no matter what they wear, and their drunkeness does not excuse their behavior anymore than being drunk will excuse you from plowing into another car if you choose to drive.

...and how should whores be treated?

I, for one, do not look at people who work in the sex industry in any form or style as 'less than anyone else.' They shouldn't be treated any less than you would any other decent human being just because of their profession. (however, if anyone acts like an asshat, they get treated like one in my book...)

As it's been pointed out, it doesn't matter what you wear; someone who wants to sexually harrass someone else will do so regardless of what is worn. And if I'm not mistaken, it's perfectly acceptable to dress sexily if one wishes in this day and age - many women dress to please themselves.

What assholes.

If you're going to dress up in skimpy clothes you shouldn't be surprised if people stare. But in no case does that give anyone the right to touch uoi, especially if you don't know them.

(And I like all the "But officer, she was wearing a mini-skirt, didn't she deserve to get raped?" type commenters above. Very classy, 1950s type thinking.)

I can understand your anger towards the girls. I don't think the restaraunt should be charged in this point though I would have opted for throwing them out after the first incident.
But unless the girls were activly going over to the guys and twitching their butts in the guys face, the guy has no right reach out and touch someone.

Yes indeed you can see but not touch, taunting or not.

Yes wearing certain types of clothing does mean you can expect a reaction, and you should be prepared to deal with it. But touching someone particularly in such a rude and overly familiar way is NEVER acceptable without permission.

I think the girls were out of line by bringing the police down on your manager-- if anything, he simply wasn't severe enough and that's not a crime-- but I agree with the numerous other commenters that those girls have the right to dress however the hell they want and no one has the right to harass them by that means alone.

Hopefully the police will actually take into consideration that the restaurant made an attempt to keep the guys from harassing them. Seriously, if they tell the guys to stay away from them and keep to the other side of the restaurant while not offering any more drinks to them, then they did what was reasonable for the first infraction.

The second infraction appears to be a guy's lame attempt at revenge when the girls with g-strings decided to ignore his apology. Regardless of whether it was insincere or not, they should have at least acknowledged his presence. Immature behavior on both parts, so one action negates the other, IMO.

I fully agree on the first point, but not the second. If someone has approached me without invitation, especially if one of his party has already physically assaulted me, I don't have to acknowledge his presence. In fact, if they had spoken politely to him no doubt someone would have blamed them for inviting another assault.

But the manager didn't throw the boys out. He just moved them to a different part of the restaurant. It was a bad judgement call, and it did lead to an illegal situation. Laws are there to protect everyone, and if someone breaks the law and is not punished accordingly, the law loses its legitimacy. I'm sure your manager is a very nice person, and with a good lawyer he'll probably be okay.

Feminism is not a dirty word. Allowing those boys to act like that would only reinforce the idea that its okay to treat anything with boobs like an object of unlimitless free entertainment. The normal, acceptable reaction is to enjoy the view, perhaps make a few off-color jokes to your buddies and finish your evening. What they did was awful.

i am not saying that what they did were right. i don't agree with what they did, and as i have mentioned, i would have thrown them out myself if i had the power to do so, and knew fully what was going on (i only heard the full story later when i was told i might be charged as well).

while it's a bad judgement called, what i didn't appreciate at all was the fact that the girls told the police we did NOTHING about the whole situation, and proceeded to charge us with everything in that situation.

before you go ahead and accussed me of more issues though, i will tell you this:

i am for feminism, i am not for liars. i have been both a sexual assault and a sexual harassment victim, so i know how it feels to feel trapped with no one willing to do something (more so in a conservative society).

in this situation, we did do something, perhaps not enough in many people's eyes. but to outrightly tell the police "they did nothing", was not only perjury, it stung. our manager love us girls (and obviously adores women), and wouldn't have let us been hurt. he was also trying to be diplomatic, seeing that the boys were not drunk enough to be not understanding.

ok this is where i think i should start explaining everything (and then copy and paste to everyone else maybe):

i, for one, do not stand up for people getting sexually assaulted or harassed in any form or manner, since i have been a victim of both forms from the time i knew boys existed. i don't think there's an excuse or right to, regardless of what you wear.

however, what i did not appreciate is them accusing us of doing nothing when we did something, and thought the boys had already abided by it. perhaps my choice of wording it as such was real bad, but i also found it a bad choice to consider sitting infront of the guys (when they have already moved somewhere else) not bothering to pull up your pants but instead letting it ride lower (to the point where you could see her arse crack).

that doesn't mean they were asking for it, incidentally. because, if you had read me right to the end, i would have thrown them boys out myself. rather, i wish they had approached us first to call the police as well, rather than them calling it, and then accussed us altogether of not doing anything about it and "feeding drinks to drunks" when the boys were not yet drunk.

Hold up a minute. Are you suggesting that the women are to blame for having a bunch of strangers touch them inappropriately? Are you annoyed at them for staying at your restaurant instead of marching out immediately after being sexually harassed? Let me ask you -- Is it ever okay for a man to go up to a woman and grab her panties? Does she ver deserve this kind of degradation, even if she was wearing a short skirt and low-cut blouse? I'm sorry, but if those boys had come up to you and snapped your bra because you were a "cute waitress", it would have been the same damn situation. You "invited" or "provoked" them to touch you because of your attractiveness and the fact you were wearing a bra. You know this is how some males can be. You don't have to be wearing a skimpy outfit to be raped, assaulted, or harassed.

As for the restaurant situation, YES there should be charges pressed. I'm glad they were. If my manager merely slapped a man on the wrist for grabbing my panties, you can bet that I'd be on the train to lawsuitland, not for the money, but for the principle of it. No woman should EVER worry that she will not get justice after being sexually harassed or assaulted in a public place. And those women did NOT get justice from your manager. It doesn't matter if you could see one woman's brastrap and g-string. That may not have been intentional, and even if it was, there's still that little matter of RESPECT.

To the person who felt that it was "immature" of the women not to accept a verbal apology -- I completely disagree. These women were just sexually harassed, had their underwear grabbed by drunken strangers. A simple "I'm sorry" will not undo whatever mental anguish they may have caused. Let's say you were in a car accident in which someone dented your car. This person says, "Sorry". Does that undo the damage? Do you just drop the issue and go on your merry way? Of course not. And that's just a CAR. We're talking about a PERSON here.

actually no. bad choice of words that, i guess, but i was actually piss off more because they told the police we did NOTHING, when we did do something. this wasn't a mere slap on the wrist when we told them to move out of range, move out of the area.

it wasn't anticipated that the guys had still go up to the women, because they were not that drunk. but charges pressed to the entire restaurant? hell, she wasn't even making enough of a scene for me to know what's going on, and suddenly everyone's helping the "harassment"?

You can look but you can't touch.

People can chose to expose what part of their bodies they chose to expose. I can leer, since they were the ones who have chosen to expose, it will be bad manners, but I can leer. I can't touch however, because people can chose to expose what they chose to expose, AND they can chose to allow touching by who they chose to and on which part.

It really should be obvious.

a) A pretty girl walks into the room, I can stare. I can't touch, unless she lets me. If she gives permission to Mr.A, then Mr.A can touch her, but not me or anyone else, even if she has 'given permission' for us to stare.

b) A man makes the choice to work out and develop some juicy abs, another man could stare, but no man, or woman, can touch the man with juicy abs unless he gives permission for them to do so. Understood?

The thing here that's making me laugh oh so hard is all the comments. Advocating you're a horrid person, saying that the restaurant deserves it (your manager does, though).
Mind you, I see barely anyone getting up in arms over the guys not being charged.

Honestly, it's like charging the local council but letting a rapist off because you were raped in the park. It only sends a message to the guys that it's ok to do that because someone else gets in trouble anyway.

I'm sorry you've had to get all the comments I've left, but I felt it a little necessary in places.
