    Oboe lesson today!
I had fun with Dr Grabb but made a faux pas with Amy saying I didn't care to minor in voice. She was another oboe major but now she's voice. Mother also figured I should minor in voice and if nor she suggested flute. I'll let Amanda take that job. I'd like minoring in bassoon! Then I have all double reeds covered. I know I'm a soprano but I don't care for it.

Okay people, let me ask you a question--how many of you have read the Twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer? Show of hands?

If you haven't, you might want to leave--this is going to get in-depth and probably boring for you. But if you're looking for a good vampire story then you might want to hang around--there will be no spoilers here!

The Twilight Saga is, without a shadow of a doubt, THE best book series I have ever read. It's also the best vampire series that I've ever read--and that does include Anne Rice, ladies and gentlemen. Edward Cullen has beaten out Lestat for control of my heart.

So... the premise of Twilight. Basically, it's about a normal high school girl named Bella Swan who moves from the sunny Phoenix, Arizona to one of the rainiest areas in America--Forks, Washington to live with her father. She then discovers a family of good vampires (the Cullens) who feed on animals rather than humans(vegetarians is the tongue-in-cheek name they have for themselves) and falls desperately in love with one of them--Edward Cullen.

The catch, of course, is that Bella is a human and Edward is a vampire--but Bella's blood calls to him so much more than anyone else's, so he must struggle between his desire to love her--and his desire to kill her.

I really suck at these kinds of things, so I hope you'll bear with me. These books are just... amazing. Stephanie Meyer is an incredible author who makes every word come alive and she really makes you feel what her characters are feeling. I have never been as happy (or as sad) for a character or with a situation as I have with this series.

For those of you who don't know, the books are in this order:

    Twilight
    New Moon
    Eclipse
    Breaking Dawn

Stephanie is also writing a book called Midnight Sun which is going to be Twilight from Edward's POV--can you say EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! The book was leaked so Stephanie put up a LEGAL version on her website but I am choosing to wait until she releases the book that she wants us to read.

Okay, so--what is my favorite thing about these books? The love story between Edward and Bella. It's so intense and feel so real that it really makes you wistful and wish that your own Edward Cullen will find you! These two are a beautiful combination to behold.

My second favorite thing is that there is not a main character that I dislike. There are some that annoy me at times, but I still love them.

I just... I cannot put into words how amazing these books are. You just have to read them to find out for yourself!!

I could go on and on but I'm getting kicked off the computer... so time for a quick survey for my fellow Twilight fans!

    1) Who is your absolute favorite character? Why? (Mine is Bella... I love her grit and how much she reminds me of myself. We're both non-confrontational klutzes who cry when angered!)

    2) Which couple in the book is your favorite, besides the obvious? (Jasper/Alice... they are so adorable together!)

    3) Do you like the cast for the movie? Why or why not? (I've only seen Bella and the Cullens so far--but I love them! Bella and Edward especially--I gasped when I saw them because they were so like how I'd pictured them.)

    4) Which is your favorite book and why? (Eclipse--I'm not sure why, I just love it. There's so many funny moments (the plane crash scenario, the Emmett-Bella quote after she breaks her hand...) and also so many sweet moments as well as dramatic. I just love it!)

    5) Which is your least favorite book? (New Moon--it's so hard for me to get through and it puts me into a deep depression.)

    6) What do you think of the name Renesmee? (I love it--I think it's unique and beautiful! I HATE the "Nessie" nickname though.)

Okay, that's it for now! Thanks for reading, guys!

    what movie is this?
I have a quote from a movie stuck in my head, and imdb and google are no help to me so far. Help me figure out what this is?

"I would, if you'd let me." [It could also be "I might, if you'd let me" but I'm pretty sure it's "would."]

bg: man and woman in antagonistic relationship (I know, every other movie out there). she's just said something along the lines of "you've got to admit, blah blah blah" and this is his response, which in turn inspires a thawing of the ice wall on her side and begins growing camaraderie which probably flourishes into love, knowing the way films tend to go.

Anyone have any idea what this is? It's a movie I've seen again and again, or I wouldn't know the quote. Unfortunately, that's true of lots of movies, so that doesn't narrow it down much.

    Anyone have an idea?

Hokay, so I has Classics Sideswipe and BlueSilverstreak now. (Thank you, Cyn!) Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are off to one side being macho and sexy and taunting the hell out of Fracture while BlueSilverstreak babbles at Prowl.

Also, MTMTE TPB Vol. 1 is ♥.

Nuked a box and a half of paperwork today, got bills paid, have successfully not let sis know we're going to the zoo tomorrow for our birthday. Uh… anything else? Um um um. Brain. So brain dead. I give up; still have to take out the rubbish and sleep.

[info]docbrite quoted from a review of one of her books on Amazon.com

I support gay rights, gay marriage, etc, but I can do without details that paint a picture in my mind, or actually seeing it happen. If someone told me Poppy Z Brite wrote a book and the gay stuff isn't in it, I'd be interested in reading it. Otherwise, I doubt I'll pick up another book of hers.

Her comment in her blog was
In other words, "I'll say what I have to say to be PC, but I don't want to know what those icky fags actually do with each other." I can only hope someone told him Exquisite Corpse wasn't a bit gay.

    The full entry is here

I'm not sure of the etiquette of quoting from other people's journals, but the entry is public, and her journal doesn't permit comments there, so I thought I would just post in my journal.

I am of mixed feelings on statements like this - I can see the author's response - it does sound sort of like a cop-out - "do what you want as long as I don't have to see it".

But at the same time, I can think of a *lot* of things that I personally support other peoples' right to do, but don't necessarily want to read, see or have the explicit details described to me - does that make me a hypocrite?

I fully support your right to engage is any type of consensual sexual activity - but that doesn't mean that I want to know the blow by blow details *exactly* what you're doing - regardless of the gender of the person you are doing it with.

I believe there is a difference between supporting someone's right to live their life - and wanting to be a participant, or audience, whether these actions are taken by real people or are part of fictional characters.

I got mail! Dvd burner, and Lush (breath of fresh air, ultrabland, oxeo deoderant, and angels on bare skin).

Only, I didn't think ahead and order dvds with the damned burner, so I've gotta go out later to stock up. ...OR, I could get dvds tomorrow, and spend the rest of today on the couch with leftover pizza and torchwood/ncis. I HAVE A PLAN, AND IT IS GOOD.

    Good news!

I got an email stating that I was added back in for further consideration for the railroad job! This is very exciting and I really, really hope that I at least get the opportunity to interview. Once I'm at the interview, then I can make myself sound a lot better than any resume could. I'm OK at interviews, even with how nervous I get. So keep your fingers crossed! I've got ALL of the qualifications pretty much.

Also, my great aunt has this silver bowl (made by "WM. A. ROGERS"?) that is tarnished beyond belief. I bought a silver polish cream and have been scrubbing the hell out of it with that but it's not working all that well. So then I tried the whole tinfoil, baking soda, and hot water thing and it did absolutely NOTHING which was a bummer. I'm guessing it's because there is SO much tarnish on it. But anyway, if anyone has any advice for polishing up a silver bowl and getting rid of all that tarnish, I would appreciate it.

Some people need a beatin' & I'm more than happy to give it to 'em.
I'm supposed to be studying. But I did have to check my email, read my flist, delete an anonymous spam comment, see what time the debate starts tomorrow (it's at Belmont University here in Nashville) AND read the news about how ABC will be broadcasting from my semi-alma mater of BGSU in Ohio after the debate.

Now I don't want to study.

    But I will.

    I guess.

Oh--does anyone watch Heroes? Because I have a question. I'll ask you in comments, if you comment.

This is what I get for browsing news sites before going to bed.
[now-irrelevant stuff snipped, saving post for the fic research stuff XD]

Random note: I've always been quite impressed by how quickly I can find an explanation of just about anything I need to write about by googling the important words. Sadly, this isn't working for my trying to figure out what would happen if you put a videotape in a microwave oven on high.

...I really would have thought that there would be at least an informative video on this subject on the net somewhere, if not a detailed scientific analysis. Now I have to resist the odd temptation to try it myself and find out. (This is made somewhat easier by the fact that it's actually kind of hard to find videotapes anymore, and all the ones I have here have cool stuff on them that I don't want to destroy.)

(Yes, this is my fic research for the day.)

Edit as of the following morning: ...And that makes 41 fics for the meme, not counting the in-progress ones I'm still actively working on. Dang, people make a big deal out of filling 40 prompts, and I missed my chance.
