hey everyone.

so recently I made a post asking about Jessicurl, your advice, etc. I wanted to update that I loooooove her line SO much.

Seriously, it's amazing. It's all silicone, sulfate & cruelty free. My hair is thanking me.

I use:
Hair Cleansing cream
Too Shea! Extra Moisturizing Conditioner
Rockin' Ringlets Styling Potion
Confident Coils Styling Solution

Also here to suggest an amazing gel (that's also cone free):

BIOSILK Style Rock Hard Gelee Firm Hold

I use this after applying all of my Jessicurl products. If you're just looking for gel, I'd suggest putting a product under the gel...or just use sparingly. A little goes a long way b/c it does tend to get a little crunchy if you use too much.

Im mostly happy because I can sometimes go 2-3 days without washing and it still looks good..

So I'm going on a float trip this weekend...which means no flat irons or straighteners for this girl!

Can anyone offer a good product for really dry, coarse thick, SHORT hair?

It's natural curly, but damaged.  So I'd like to stay away from gels, or anything that's going to make it hard! Lately I've been letting it go all natural - but I've used a lot of heat products in my past.  When I don't do anything to it, it's real wavey.

I'll be on the lake rafting, camping, hiking and by a campfire...no outlets! So I need something that'll make my hair not look like a disaster...

Thanks for your help in advance! =)

hey curlypeople! I need hair advice.

it's been about a year since I had a hair cut (I know, I know, it's awful). I do occasional end trims, but I'm growing it out and I've been unable to find someone who can really cut curly hair anyway, so it just worked out that way.

I really like my hair now, the length that is, but I need some change. usually I just get bangs (I'm aware of the fivehead, haha) but, honestly, I hate bangs. I think they're a pain to keep up and I think the whole "straight bangs + curly, curly hair" thing looks really silly on me (although plenty of other people pull it off with much fierceness).

recent hair pictures. )

any ideas for cuts/styles/what-have-you? I'm criminally low-maintenence (/lazy) when it comes to this stuff, so I'm lacking creativity!

thanks in advance!

after reading this post http://community.livejournal.com/curlyhair/1300799.html, i tried tucking my hair in and pinning my curls to get that faux-short hair, and my mom and sister actually thought i cut it!

so this is the actual legth of my hair:

and this is the after picture. i used a curling iron, tucked the bottom curls in and pinned them. sorry it's black and white, but i just thought the whole thing looked so retro! (ignore the frizz please, i live in brazil and it's absolutely impossible not to have frizzy hair here! stupid humidity!)

i couldn't make it any shorter than that and still have it looking natural, but what do you guys think? :D

I had this stuff two years ago (summer of 2007) that I believe was Aveda. It was a shampoo, conditioner, and a curl spray. I'm pretty sure it was for curly hair, and the three bottles were the same height (tall and skinny) and the spray was a pump top. Teal in color, opaque bottles, brown tops. Argh. Aveda denies knowing anything about a product matching this and kept telling me it's the Sap Moss line, but the pictures of that in no way match my product grail.

Help me out! Anyone think they know what this was? I loved it and will buy a flat of it if it exists.

I know we all love our curly hair sometimes, I love mine too, but some times I hate it and I have to straighten it!

So give me your tips on straightening your curly hair, especially products you use.

Thanks!

There are plenty of posts about women complaining about their curls. Why don't we ever share the moments when we knew we looked damn good?! So, fellow curlies, tell us the empowering moments you've had with your precious gift of curly hair!

So Chris took a picture of the back of my head while I was washing some dishes last night, and man I had NO IDEA there was so much hair going on back there!

No wonder it weighs a freaking ton. Any good cut suggestions? I know I at least need to neaten up the ends, but it may be time for a nice summer cut anyway.

Anyone here live in the Atlanta area and can recommend a good stylist that knows how to work with curly hair?

i washed my hair with a castille soap/rosemary oil mixture (as someone had mentioned here) and use la looks sport gel. the results were pretty good. even after sleeping on wet-ish hair last night, my hair looks ok this a.m. i think i'll stop using real shampoo and just use castille soap/rosemary oil for a while and see how that goes.

I've been obsessed with getting bangs lately. I dont really know where it came from, considering I've never wanted them before, but now I'm dreaming of them and stuff, its really bad! So, do any of you curlys have bangs? Can you pull them off? I'll put a picture of me behind the cut for opinons

I went ahead and did it! I chopped off my hair yesterday! Someone had suggested here to go to David at VSL Hair Salon in Dupont Circle, Washington DC. A great suggestion! He made my whole experience so much more pleasant! This was the second time going to him but this was a more drastic cut!

I chopped of 14 inches (longest layer) !!
hair

I will be donating it to one of the charities making wigs! But here are some before and after photos!

Simply put, I am tired of my hair, and would love to try a short style. I do have a few misgivings, however: when I was younger, I had short hair, but it was also extremely poofy. Nevertheless, I feel that with a great style and judicious use of hair products, I could perhaps pull off a short 'do.

Here are some pictures of what my hair looks like.

does anyone sleep in a turban at night?

sometimes i'll go to sleep with my hair still wet and the next morning, it's not as curly as it would be if i'd let it dry completely and then slept on it. so, i'm thinking of ways to sleep with hair still wet at night.

if you do use a turban at night, what brand do you like?

Here I make the commitment not to mess up my hair with blow driers and the wind decides that is not acceptable!

Does anyone else get their curl structure totally stomped on if they go out in the wind? Both of us are going to have flat hair for a few days now:P

Hi everyone! I'm glad I stumbled across this community! It's good to know that there are other people out there who understand how much of a struggle it can be sometimes to have curly hair!

With that said, I got a haircut today and I was really nervous, as it's been the first time I've actually been to a salon and gotten my hair cut in like...3 years. I have SUPER, SUPER curly, thick hair and it's gotten to the point where I'm too frustrated to do anything with it, except let it grow.

YEAH FOR NOT HAVING TRIANGLE HAIR ANYMORE! )
