Ahem....
Brianna is done with her college finals and home for the summer. The WCMI hiatus is over and work on the (very lengthy) next spring dance installment resumes today. Thanks for..uh..y'know..not mobbing us with pitchforks and torches. ;p Btw we went and saw POTC3 last night (early 8 pm showing.) Who else has seen it and what did you think?

...after the movie I caught myself wondering what would happen if I strolled up to the massive crowd that was waiting for the next showing and yelled "WILL DIES AND BECOMES THE CAPTAIN OF THE FLYING DUTCHMAN!" I didn't do it because: 1. I'm not a particularly evil person. 2. I probably would have been killed in an angry mob scene reminiscent of 28 Days Later and I would like to finish WCMI before I depart this world. ;p

We now return you to our regularly scheduled comic.

*weeps poor Davy's death*

On a random note, you might wanna LJ cut that bit about Will dying. ^^;; Even with the spoiler warning and extra spaces it's hard not to see.

I liked it, actually. I have a couple nitpicks, of course, but I think everyone does.

The thing with Norri bothered me. Yeah, it was honorable, but it was anticlimactic. D: Which was upsetting cause he's a favorite of mine.

Hmm, interesting...haven't seen it yet (off to do just that this afternoon) but can't say that I saw that coming. I keep hearing that they left it open for a fourth movie - true or no?

I'm glad I read this. :) I like to be prepared for character deaths - I'm weird that way. :D And oddly enough now I'm more intrigued to watch it just to see how everything turns out.

I saw it, 12:30 showing baby! w00t w00t. I really liked this one. I did not like the second one at all, and I haven't even watched it a second time. I didn't like what they did to any of their characters. But in this one they made it all better. ^_^ I actually like Elizabeth and Will, wheras before I just tolerated them. I love how those two soldiers became pirates. rofl. I loved the scene with Jack's multiple selves running about the ship. It was t3h amusing.

I basically did just that! Me and my best friend went to see the 8:00 showing and there was this massive line for the midnight showing so we looked at each other, smile evilly and shouted in unison:

"WILL DIES AND BECOMES THE FLYING DUTCHMAN CAPTAIN AND NORRINGTON DIES!"

We pretty much had secerity chasing us out of the theatre.

XDDD

They killed two not-main characters off...that's not really a lot.

I had three complaints, two about Keira Knightly:

1) WTF was up with her fake & bake? She was ORANGE! ORANGE I TELL YOU!! I kept expecting Chow Yun Fat to pull back in horror and say "I AM ACCURSED! I HAVE CAUGHT THE ORANGE SKIN DISEASE OF THE GWEILO! WHY OH CAPRICIOUS FATE, WHY!!!!

2) After the huge climactic battle at the end, sword fights and all the rest in a friggin' hurricane cum whirlpool, would it have been too much to ask for a wee smudge on her cheek? Perhaps her makeup not being perfect?

3) So when ol' woodenhead himself is standing there as the new captain of the Dutchman, I kept thinking: "Could they have picked a shittier, greasier weave for him? I don't see how."

Normally, I'd not have really noticed Kiera's bad makeup, but her face was on screen every thirty seconds, so it was hard to miss.

I saw it at the Midnight showing at the Ziegfield Theatre. The Disney Story in New York had this package you could sign up for that was basically buy the ticket and join the party they threw at the store at 9:30 and then at 12:00 the lot of us paraded down the streets of Manhattan laughing and getting odd looks XD . Lots of fun, walked into the store looking normal and walked out in a pirate shirt, skull patterned headband, feathered hat, and a bag of gifts and limited edition/quantity PotC loot that I could barely lug all the way there, and a new name, “Jennifer the Scallywag.” *Snicker* Better than the woman who was “Sal the Bootlicker.”

Anyway, back to the movie. I think they really tied things up well. Sad, but Elizabeth’s father had no part left and had to die because he (and Norrigton) were her last ties to her life as the governer’s daughter. It cut her loose. I really liked how they managed to give everyone a meaningful role; even Ragetti gets to be important instead of soley comic relief. I feel like it fleshed out Will and Elizabeth more, they felt more like “real” people instead of just actors playing a part. Also, I like who they brought in lines and scenes from the first movie; it gives a sense of things coming full circle and closure. I think they ended the trilogy very well. Would worry about a fourth movie.

Negatives: attack of the 50ft Tia Dalma was ….eh. Well, at least it was short. Norrington was heroic I suppose, but rather anti-climatic. I felt sorry for him. Some parts dragged a bit too, I think. Hmph, I’ll have to watch it again to be really objective. Sorry I missed the credits, should have known there’d be a scene but I more or less got shoved out by the mob’s mass exodus.

Off topic here, but at the party I was going through the store, which is the largest Disney Store in the country, I couldn’t find anything from Alice and Wonderland except one adorable Cheshire Cat (Which I snatched up along with the dog from PotC with the keys). It’s such an over-looked film when it comes to merchandise. I make themed purses as a hobby and I was looking for Wonderland things at the Store with no luck. It’s a disappointment but at least I found what I needed on eBay.

I hated the ending. Call me lame but I do enjoy my Disney happy-endings. This whole 1-day every 10 years thing made me so sad. I would much rather Jack, or Gibbs or how about that midget pirate stab the heart? Anyone but Will, or couldn't Jones have had pity?

I was also so sad about J.Norrington. Although I didn't like him in the first film I <3 him in the 2nd and third. "Our lives have been intertwined but never connected" (or something like that)*sigh*

I love K.Richards and all the other pirates, the french pirates looked awesome. I was kinda hoping someone would be named Hook but I'm over that. Oooh! And seeing Jones with out all the tentacles was *awesome* AND when you get to the locker you hear audio from the pirates ride, LOL.

Mostly all the death, and the ending really upset me and the inconsistency with accents. Barbosa and Tia mostly.

Went and saw the movie last night at 9:40, but we didn't even park the car until nearly 10. We raced into the theater, pirate garb and all, like Hell was on our heels, and managed to make it into the theater in time for the last preview before the movie actually started. Awesome.

As for the movie itself, I say 8/10. There were some things that just made me go "meh", such as Elizabeth kissing every male in the movie and her getting a wee bit power happy. I'm all for girl power, but sheesh... Though I must say, I was laughing my butt off. And the song they sing at the beginning! Oh, that song will be stuck in my head for days.

One thing I didn't really get, however: 1) what mark did Jack leave on Beckett?, and 2) why did Beckett just sort of zone out at the end during the attack? Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I didn't get a clear answer for either.

I refuse to acknowledge that Norrington died. He is my FAVORITE character and for the writers to a) give him no screen time (esp. after the last movie) and b) have him be killed by a pirate-fish with Alzheimer's is unacceptable. And it was totally unnecessary!! All the writer's had to do was have him answer "Yes." to davy jone's, "Do you fear death?" Then he would have been alive and freed at the end with all the other pirate-fish when Will became captain.

I <3 Norrie forever.

*meekly raises hand*

I think I'm alone here when I say that I really disliked that movie. I regretted even seeing it, it was so ridiculous. Yet, still better than the second one...:P

1. Massive, MASSIVE amounts of completely random, absurd, and--worst of all--(sometimes) BARELY EXPLAINED storyline after storyline after storyline just THROWN out there every 5 minutes. Nobody knew what the heck was going on (and we're massive PotC fans) and were confused for about 70% of the movie. Like, for example, seriously, where were the other 7 ships of brotheren (sp?) when Barbossa and them were fighting the armada???? Then they all of a sudden show up celebrating at the end??? WTF*ck, mate. They weren't there. Soo many plotholes...

2. Electric guitar and cowboy sequence. Need I say more? I was seriously expecting Chuck Norris to jump out of there someplace.

3. A lot of Out of Character-ness. Especially Norington. Did he not even remember the 2nd movie occurring?? Apparently it didn't. And Elizabeth SUDDENDLY being a full-blown pirate, knowing EVERYTHING about ships, down to the navigation and STRUCTURE. Yeah. Unlikely.

4. Elizabeth would have had a VERY hairy leg there when will was kissing it. ;P

Sorry, it's not that I hated the movie, just severely disliked it. I would never see it again, personally. It was sorta funny at parts, but just to ludicrous to follow and enjoy. It really seemed like Disney was just trying way too hard. :(

[[I'm going to get flamed for this, I know it. :P]]
P.S. I'm not bashing anyone here, just throwing out an opinion from the other end. If it seems harsh or mean, that's just because I'm really sleepy...Zzzzz

I saw it in a twist of unexpected wonderful luck (though I had to skip work today because I didn't get to bed until four...). I at first was upset that Jack didn't get what he wanted, but then I realised that who better to have such a heavy responsibility than the one character who's morals have not faltered one bit?

I was also bitten quite hard about the rump by a plotbunny when I saw Capitaine Chevalle. Prrrr, but I like French dandies.

I look forward to the next installment.

I went to the 8pm showing too, in full costume. I loved it! I thought it was perfect actually, but I was sad to see Davy Jones go. I loved how Will becamed the new captain of the Flying Dutchman, he and Elizabeth were still happy at the end but they didn't have the perfect D*sney fairy-tale ending and that's what I liked. For the last 45 mins or so I was just staring at the screen thinking 'Did that just happen?'

And oh man, I'm REALLY hoping they don't make another one! I've been praying to the pirates gods that they don't. They left it open, but if you saw what came after the credits I think that would close it, at least I'm hoping (let me wallow in my ignorance ^^). I desperately hoping they don't make a fourth one, it would just ruin the feel of the series I think.
