Hello, boxers!
My friend and I have been big fans of Shoebox for years (Is it sad to still miss ‘Thursdays’?), but we would certainly classify as lurkers.
Since things have been slow of late, we recently decided to start our own creative project. It is definitely in keeping with the spirit of Shoebox, but set in the ‘new, epilogue generation.’ We’ve taken up Teddy/James (known to us as the New Remus/Sirius or the HMS Remix), and a lot of it is based on the Marauders’ generation. In particular, we’ve recently created a bunch of Remus’s letters, photographs, and notes (We are affectionately calling it ‘Our Own Personal Shoebox.’) which Teddy found in the attic. It’s certainly a touching memento…or at least a memento of touching.
We thought we would post here, in case anyone was looking for something to read while we wait for more Shoebox. We hope that you will enjoy it:

Also I have been contemplating recently if the marauders where glam rockers in Hogwarts??? I blame it on my marc bolan phase atm lol but seriously do you not think Sirius would be a perfect glam rocker? kohl up his eyes and yum yum with his dog collar on..... *droolz* ..... hmmm any fic on that side of things too???

Hallo folks!

I promised to print off and send a copy of Shoebox to a friend of mine who is rather a technophobe, however some of the pictures are missing from the earlier episodes, I don't suppose anyone has all the images/their own version tucked away that I could grab and use?

Big fankoo!

Hello, fellow Shoeboxers :D

As it is currently about 99 degrees where I live, I had hoped to while the day away reading fan fiction and enjoying my numerous fans. But what to read? I've several fanfics archived in various places that I really like, but I'm in the mood for something new, I think. So, can anyone recommend me some nice Remus/Sirius Shoebox-style fics? I'm looking for something that fits in well with canon, so nothing really ridiculous, and something with nice witty dialogue. Anyone got any good ones to suggest? Thanks in advance!

..I've always been more of a lurker around SBP, reading as the updates have come, and admiring from a far, and now, that I have been laid up with glandular fever and have actually re-read it from start to where we are now, I realise how much I have needed a fix of the Marauders.

Just wanted really to say hey, and also join in the love of the drug that is Shoebox

First, read this: Farewell, Comma, He Said

Then, if you have a lot of time, and if you are ridiculously concerned about about the state of today's commas, read

this. )
It's from the Poynter Institute for Journalism. Agh, I'm so distressed! I've used serial commas all my life. Harry, Hermione, and Ron. When I started working for my local paper, the editors were always picking them out like lint. I guess Sirius is not the only one who's struggling to believe in commas. :(

Hi. I made a wallpaper using quote icons from [info]silver_sunn101. I'm not gonna lie, there is a lot of Sirius quotes, but there is a lot of others, too. Besides, he's the best anyway.

This wallpaper was designed for a 1680x1080 pixel screen. I don't know what happens to it when you try to fit it to a small screen. I might make another for smaller screens, I dunno. For best results, set it as your background then go to "properties">"desktop">position: "center". That's for Windows, again, I don't know what to say to anyone else.

Um... Oh, little bonus. Inverting the colors makes it look REALLY cool. Just, you know, so you know. And... uh... Shoebox rules! Not much else to say I guess. Any questions, comments, etc, lemme know!

I know this is not exclusively Shoebox, but i have to admit that it wasn't till after reading the first Halloween bit (Part 9?) that i actually became interested in trying to read Poe. (I realize how lame that probably looks/sounds, but there you have it.) And just a few days ago, i came across this. It even ticks.

So of course i favorited it. It's far too priceless not to. Just thought i'd share, since it is the story Remus reads & all. ;)

I'm absolutely fascinated by the idea of listening to people read out Shoebox, but I haven't been able to find them on my own. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Havemercy!!! [24 Jun 2008|11:15pm]

incipient_love
So today after dinner, the weather was so calm and fabulous and beautiful that I decided to take a drive. As I was driving around with the windows down and the radio up (focusing a lot more on Paul McCartney singing than the road, I must admit), I passed by a Barnes and Noble and remembered that the book that Jaida co-wrote came out today. And I also remembered that sitting in my battered little wallet was $30 gift card for Barnes and Noble. I bet you can guess what I did.

But when I got inside, I couldn't find the book in the "New Sci-Fi/Fantasy" section and after I asked for help, I found out that they were all sold out! And on the first day that the book was released too! Either there are a lot more shoebox fanatics living in Mentor, Ohio than I realize, or the cover and summary of the novel are just so enthralling that people are impulse-buying them off the shelves. Hopefully, it's a little bit of both.

So I ended up driving half an hour away to the next-nearest Barnes and Noble and getting a copy of Havemercy there. And now it's sitting next to me in all it's bookish glory and I a typing faster now so I can skip off and read it.

Anyone else get the book today too?

So everyone here knows about the short Marauders story that J.K. Rowling wrote for charity, right? And that it is up for reading here?

It's a really fun little story, and the characters display a very Shoebox-like wit that made me squee. :)

Also, while I've been adamant until now about not needing a Marauders prequel... after reading this story, I kind of want a Marauders prequel. Oh well.

There are a bunch of other stories by awesome authors too; I just haven't happened to read them yet.

We all love to quote Shoebox. That's a given. However, some quotes are easier to slip into normal, every-day occurences than others - I mean, when was the last time you pointed the sky and shouted "Spies, avian spies!"? Personally, I have gotten a lot of use out of "It's minimalist. Don't be a twat" recently: when defending William Carlos Williams' poetry, excusing my deleted PowerPoint presentation, or trying to explain to the vice principal why some dress code rules are meant to be broken.

So which are the easiest to whip out in a public situation? Who else still finds Shoebox Moments cool? Does no-one else appreciate 'The Red Wheelbarrow'? Tell me I'm not alone here.

(Also: Jaida's book comes out on the 24th. Who ELSE is excited?)

I had an awesome surprise waiting for me at home today.

When I got home, there was a letter waiting from the student loans company (oh joy) and a package on the window. It was slightly heavy, and the return address was New York. I frowned at it; I knew I'd bought nothing from America recently, so maybe this was something I bought so far back that I'd forgotten? It felt like a book, which really puzzled me, as I couldn't remember buying anything. I opened it, and the first thing I noticed was a letter poking out of the top, which I pulled out.

I'm so surprised! To be honest, I thought they'd forgotten about the raffle as no-one had heard anything about it.

A few months back I posted something about the show Being Human from BBC3 about a vampire and a werewolf. Someone linked to a petition to commission the series and they are!
Snagged from Wiki:

" An online petition lobbying BBC Three commissioning editors to greenlight a full series was set up by a journalist from the Reading Chronicle newspaper as part of a review of the show.[2] The article and petition drew traffic from across the world and with the latter now having been signed by over 3,000 people.[3]

The BBC announced on April 24, 2008 that a six episode series of the show had been commissioned.[4] However, the three leads have not yet been confirmed for the full series, apparently because of scheduling conflicts. "

Yay!

If you haven't watched it, look it up, it's awesome!

Thanking you

Shoebox Art Recs for Presentation [14 May 2008|09:59pm]

april_lirit
Hey, I'm doing a poster presentation at a UCLA research conference, and I need recs for images inspired by Shoebox, especially those foregrounding the relationship between Remus and Sirius.

Also, general art recs for Remus and Sirius are much desired. It's ok if they're a bit racy, as I don't really care if my professors think I have poor taste. My only limitation is NC-17 images. I think I'd get kicked out if I used them.

If you'd like to read my abstract (as the thesis as a whole is about Shoebox), it's below the cut. Sorry, if you read this on the accio_rs_fics board, I'm not trying to pepper the interwebs with my project, I just like to show that I'm legit.

Thanks lots.

fic rec [06 May 2008|05:35pm]

shoeboxer4life
[ mood | discontent ]

I know, a new Shoebox entry would be like a box of chocolate from Sirius, and all I have to offer is, like, one of Remus' shitty book presents, but I think we should fic rec.  Okay, okay, this is kinda like cheating on SBP, but for the sake of some sort of fidelity, I'll stick to Remus/Sirius (let me know if you want my other recs, mostly H/D).

http://kabeyk.livejournal.com/68389.html  Kabeyk is the queen of marauder porn.  It's like she wrote all the smut we didn't see in SBP.  Watch out for her James/Sirius stuff (ew!) but don't worry, she's mostly about puppy love.  I loved The Dating Disasters of SIrius Black.  She is also the queen of fight!sex (see James/Severus...wow).  She has several different takes on our boys--in some stories, Remus is the gay one and in others, Sirius is the gay one "corrupting" Remus.  There's a hot one centering around Remus' girlfriend, except it's not.  I know, I know, remus nd a girlfriend is so not Shoebox, but just read her stuff, okay?

Here's a link to someone else rec'ing another great marauder writer, Canis M: http://community.livejournal.com/rs_rt_goodfic/1609.html#cutid1  I esp.loved her post-PoA take on Remus/Sirius in "A Fearsome Business."  She has several cutie patootie stories of the pups that are deeper than anything I would call "fluff."  And she has a PoA!Remus wondering if he could turn in his former lover-turned Death Eater in "Passage."

Here is a link to the Remus/Sirius games...they haven't yet begun, so I can't vouch for the quality, but it should be fun.
http://community.livejournal.com/rs_games/

Oh, let me just list one more Lily/James that I found to be hot.  It's a WIP and there is a hint that there might be some angsty Sirius/Remus but really it's great for the nuanced Lily/Snape action.  On a side note, I have never liked Lily/James stories EVER except for SBP and this one.  Different takes, but there you go.  I think Jaida and dorkorific would have written some great Severus Lily bits had they done Shoebox after Deathly Hallows.
http://www.checkmated.com/story.php?story=9500

Are there other great marauder fics out there?  Do tell!!

it's a long shot... [02 May 2008|05:33pm]

ilovedragons
... but it's worth a try. Right?

I work in a bookshop, and frequently amuse myself by entering various names from Harry Potter into the search engine to see what comes up. There are some pretty funny titles, such as When Harry met the Potter. Honestly, just the summary is grammatically bad enough to make Remus weep.

Anyway. Naturally I looked for "sirius remus" and this came up: A German dissertation (I just tried to translate the title exactly, but I'm no good at bi-lingual thinking. A great translation will come to me sometime tonight when I'm thinking of something completely different), analysing PoA, especially the differences between book and movie and the changes in characters, using Remus Lupin and Sirius Black as a concrete example. (All this German has just left me wondering if "concrete example" is a valid English phrase. Oh dear.)

So! My question is, does anybody know this? Are there even German SBP fans out there? Or should I just get a move on and translate SBP into German myself, like I've been planing to for ages?

I'm convinced the girl who wrote this dissertation is a not so secret slasher. There are plenty of other important characters she could have focused on, so Remus and Sirius? No coincidence, I think :P

If no one knows this essay, I'll get it myself. I'll let you know if there's anything interesting in there. :D

Commas and tropics and moments! Oh my! [14 Apr 2008|08:48pm]

I had a very delightful Moment today during English class. I shall share it with you all whether you care about it or not.

I was just sitting there, correcting this guy's research paper, y'know, looking for misspelled words, forgotten commas, and the like. I wasn't really paying attention to the words and their meanings at all when, suddenly, a certain word popped out at me. Now, it took me a moment to figure out why this word set off an alarm in my head. But, after staring at it for some time, I finally remembered -- Devonshire! Sirius was at Devonshire! Of course, of course! And, as expected, I drew a little arrow to it and wrote 'tropical' above. Later, when the guy asked me why I had written the word 'tropical' on his paper, I replied with a swift, "If by 'tropical' you mean 'devonshire' (and I do)." He then stared at me for some time afterwards. I stared back at him.

I hope someone knows what I am talking about and can help! I'm really enjoying being able to read parts of the story before I go to sleep, it's much nicer on paper than on a screen which tends to give me a headache after too long.

I was just curious if any of my fellow shoeboxers suggested The Shoebox Project to anyone but ‘forgot’ to mention that Sirius and Remus end up together. And have you ‘converted’ anyone?

Hullo, Shoeboxers.

Quick question for you.
So, I have to ride the city bus home from school everyday and rather enjoy listening to
SBP_Aloud.
I only have parts 1-3, though.  Anyone know if there are more and, if so, where I can find them?

Much love, tea, chocolate, &c., if you dooo.

Hey. I was just wondering... Aren't all the intro posts supposed to be made here: http://community.livejournal.com/cult_sbp/376344.html ? I'm not a mod and I don't mean to sound like a tyrant but it seems that lately a lot of those kinds of posts are being made.

Mods, if this is inappropriate please feel free to delete or let me know and I'll delete it ASAP.

EDIT: I didn't mean to make any people mad or whatever. I just thought that we were supposed to post the intros on that one post. At least that's the impression I got from the user info page.

I've just realized that I had posted something without first introducing myself. How rude of me.

Name:
Marisa.

Age: Far too young, it feels.

Location: Washington (State, not DC).

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox? Oh, gosh. I only recently-ish discovered Shoebox, and I've been a Harry Potter fan since even before I could read -- Jim Dale read me PoA at night. Repeatedly.

How did you find Shoebox? Well, it started out when I was browsing on PhotoBucket looking at PotterPuff icons while at the same time talking to someone online about the puppylove. I was telling her how about my favorite icon is "'Embraced like brothers' my ass" when she happened to ask me if I read The Shoebox Project, and I didn't, so I asked her what it was. When she failed to respond, I searched it on PhotoBucket and went "WTF? I don't get it," and pushed it out of my mind. Several weeks later, I saw someone with a signature that said "Repeat after me, Mr. Black: I do believe in commas. I do, do," which I remembered from The Mysterious Shoebox Project Icons Of Doom, so I decided to figure out what it was once and  for all by using UrbanDictionary, which I would have used in the first place, had I been a bit smarter. The end.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character? Fabian Prewett. I don't know why, but I just want to, like, jump on him. Or something.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment? Hmm. . .part twelve, I think. Oh, the foreshadowing!

What is your favourite Shoebox quote? Gah, there's too many! But for now, I'll just say: "No one can resist a unicorn, it is a horse with a big white horn, how about that eh?"

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments? A few smalls ones that have made me giggle silently to myself and only one rather large one that I had to work very hard to not squeal about.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox? OUTSIDE of Shoebox?! No, kidding. Sort of. In my spare time, I write VoldemortxBellatrix fanfics. Pwned.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? I like cooking mostly toast, too.

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox? Um... The end of second grade, so, like... seven years?
How did you find Shoebox? My friend Cayla read it and has been trying to get me into for a while... :3 She finally did.
Who is your favourite Shoebox character? Oh, I don't know. I love them all! :D If I had to choose... Remus.
Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment? Chapter Thirteen. xD Or the train/chocolate incident when Remus went to visit Sirius & James (*wonders if this is right*)
What is your favourite Shoebox quote? Oh man. "Are you or are you not hip to my jive?" or maybe the "James has got his head stuck in a window. What the hell." bit.
Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments? xD Few, but yes.
What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox? Writing, reading...
Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? Um. Noo? Except that I am a complete and utter nerd.

So today my Moony teacher was wearing a SWEATER VEST (!!), my favorite one too, because he wears multiple vesty sweaters. Anyway, we're doing short stories right now and we're reading "the Demon Lover" and there was a class debate about the human capacity of evil, so I quoted Moony, "The hearts of men are full of contradictions. It's wrong to classify someone as good or evil because humans have such a capacity for both, don't you think? I am going to go annoyingly pensive now." And he was impressed.

Also in my art class we're doing 'marks' and I decided to do scars, so I've been taking pictures of my friends/family with interesting bruises or scars and putting them in my art project. Anyway, I was thinking of slipping in a picture of Moony With Scars pictures from shoebox but have no idea in which part these lovelies would be located. Help, please?

(Also, we made janky lie detectors in physics class and my friend asked me if I was attracted to my english teacher and when I said yes, the whole class got annoyingly quiet - the quiet that only ever comes about at the most inopportune moments. The lie detectors totally work though because it said I was telling the truth.)

P.S. can someone please explain the significance of Marlene McKinnon in shoebox, I've never fully understood her...? Did she date Sirius?

Okay, I suppose it's far past the time for me to come out of the closet....

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox? Since I was six years old, so pretty much since day 1.

How did you find Shoebox? I kept seeing these icons everywhere. They would flash some amusing, yet enigmatic, quote at me and then say "shoebox_project" at the bottom. Before long I had to look it up to rid myself of the maddening curiosity...

Who is your favourite Shoebox character? How can one CHOOSE? I most closely relate to Remus, but that doesn't necessarily mean I like him more than any of the others. (Just as a side note, it seems everyone here considers themselves a Remus, doesn't it :P but I suppose it makes sense - It's the Remus types who sit about writing in their livejournals, after all. I bet all the Siriuses are too busy having adventuresome adventures to come introduce themselves here. Anyway.) I guess I really like the Prewetts and Cadaroc Dearborn because we never see them in the actual books, so they were really exciting to meet :)

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment? I am particularly fond of the Christmas chapter in which Sirius proves himself to be a very excellent gift-giver.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote? Oh man, this is even harder than the character question! I'll just pick one: I love "Remus isn't very three bathrooms in one day." "Apparently he is now."

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments? Of course, of course... I find that the most frequent one is whenever I/someone say(s) "if by ___ you mean ___," I have the almost irrepressible urge to add "which I do."

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox? Reading, watching movies, riding my bike, and drawing.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? Nothing comes to mind, BUT.

SPEAKING OF DRAWING. I am shocked at the lack of SBP fanart. I mean, it's really popular, and filled with comedic and dramatic moments, not to mention dishy people, so WHY IS THERE SO LITTLE FANART? Am I just unable to find it? Well, even if I am, I a) demand more fanart and b) promise to contribute great heaps of it myself (if by 'great heaps' you mean 'at least one drawing,' which I do) once I find a moment away from getting my portfolio ready for college and stuff x__x but I will, I swear it, because it is my belief that a person should always try to give back as much as they can to a fandom that has brought them hours of joy. Feel free to request your favorite scene or whatever. I make no guarantees that I'll get to it within the next decade or ever, but you never know :D

I realized that I should probably stop being afraid and tell all the world (or LiveJournal Communities) that I love SBP dearly.

Name:
Anna

Age: 16

Location: Syracuse, NY

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox? 4th Grade, I believe.

How did you find Shoebox? I was reading Harry Potter Fan Fic and one of my favorite authors recommended it.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character? How can it be anyone other than Remus? He is so lovably awkward that I cannot help but adore him.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment? Hmm... my favorite section for a good laugh is when they are having the Note War, but I thought that the writing for James' Parent's Funeral was amazing.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote? Well, this one makes me giggle every time because it is so Remus: "...and saying no is impossible, as we proved that one time with the prefect's bathroom. And by 'one time' I mean 'seven.'"

And an added bonus:  "Do I rev your engine Moony? Eh EH do I?"

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments? Every time I make toast.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox? Reading. Trying not to drown in school work. Theatre stuff.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself? Nope, that's pretty much it. ^-^
