Regarding our gathering on Sunday!!!

This Sunday, we will be holding a gathering to go over the  upcoming panel at CTcon and to eat cake. We will be meeting at Edgerton Park, which is on the Hamden/ New Haven line. It's a very pretty old-English like estate with nice gardens. We'll be meeting there at 1 p.m. and, weather permitting, we will be having a light picnic outdoors. We invite everyone to come, whether or not you'll be lending us any clothing for the fashion show.

Speaking of lending clothing, we still need these items very badly:
white knee socks
petticoats

You can call me or comment on here if you have questions or want to rsvp (which would be nice, since I'll be cooking).

Here's the address for Edgerton Park:

The Edgerton Park Conservancy Hamden
75 Cliff Street
New Haven, CT 06511

http://edgertonpark.org/index.htm That's the website, but the address is not accurate. The address is their mailing address. Use the one I posted above.

Hey Ladies

I just though I'd post ad say hi to everyone. I'm really glad the community is just as active as it was before. And congrats and good luck on the panel at Connecticon. I can't say whether or not I'll be very active as a member due to life being a little crazy and I'm sorry I left without much of a notice. I was actually going to make a post but ended up getting in an accident that broke my arm which made typing difficult. Well I just wanted to say hi again and hopefully I'll get to meet you all again at a meet up sometime soon.

[info]candyholicxo

REALLY. We need your help.

Hiya gals.. and guys.

It's Julia again.
We are nearing completion of the planning stage for our panel (can you say procrastinate?). We still haven't gotten any volunteers for our Q&A panel. We're looking for 3 people to answer any questions people have after the fashion show! Please volunteer <3 The only requirement is that you're knowlegable, which you all are.

Also, we need clothes! We know you're protective over your wardrobe, because we are too. But we promise to care for your brando like its our own<3

We will be holding a "meet" on Sunday so that we can go over our panel and outfit the models. All of you who are gracious enough to want to lend us their clothes can meet with us on Sunday. Based on the response to this, we will set the location at a very central place to make it easy for everyone. However, if you absolutely cannot make it and you have some clothes you want to appear in the fashion show, we will come and get them from you. We're committed.
(Also, if requested by anyone, an additional "meet" will be held on Wednesday for anyone who couldn't make it on Sunday).

Your clothes will be returned to you after no later than a week. We will hold a post-panel gathering in which all clothing items will be returned. Again, if you can't make it, we'll mail (at our expense) or personally drive them back to you. We know it's a big deal to lend out your clothes.

Your clothing and accessories WON'T:
be eaten in
be sweated upon
be smoked around
be folded up
be near anything that could stain
etc.

Your clothing WILL:
be treated with care
kept in dry-cleaning bags (for clothing) or ziploc bags (for accessories)
be admired<3

Here is a list of what we're going to need from you:
white socks
dandy clothes/shoes
petticoats (any color, any shape)
white cutsew
bloomers (models will wear shorts underneath the bloomers for your sanitary safety XD)
black lace wrist cuffs
accessories (any loli jewelry, head-wear, etc.)
loli purses (black, white, pink)
anything classic (dresses, head-wear, shoes)
anything hime (dresses, head-wear, shoes)

Thanks!

Another quick discussion question (because I'm feeling oh-so-chatty!) What cliche lolita hobbies/interests do you do? You know what I'm talking about, when people say "Most lolitas don't even like tea and embroidery and classical music!" you've gotta pipe up that you actually do. And, be honest, do you ever find yourself liking or doing something just because it's a lolita cliche?

My lolita cliches are that I do really like tea, my favorite tea of the moment is that Revolution Carmel Tea, with lots of this powdered cactus honey (yeah, wtf?! I found it at the Asian food mart) and cream. It's so sweet! It's like drinking liquid cakes <3 My other lolita cliche is that I collect BJDs and dress them in lolita, but I really don't consider it that cliche-y because I don't have any Volks and have yet to get any BtSSB sets for them. My "I only want to do it cuz it's lolita" is that I really hate baking and cooking, but every now and then I get the urge to want to dress up in lolita and bake really cute cookies. But I also sometimes get the urge to dress up painfully goth and make gothic cookies, so I think I just like dressing up and cookies. That's really all lolita cliches I fall into (I think!), embroidery and classical music are just too boring for me!
Hats off

So I figured I'd post a discussion question. Here's my question: Are you a brand whore?! D:

And here's my answer to my own question!: I think so D: I never used to be, I used to be all "brand-shmand!' but now I just can't get enough of it! I mean, I like buying from ITS and Candy Violet and other American "brands", they are nicely made and affordable, but for some reason getting burando in the mail has just been a satisfying experience that I want more of. My next burando wish list item is a Moitie dress with a print on it, that actually fits me, but I haven't become so much of a brand whore that I'm willing to take any Moitie that fits me, because for real, I think a lot of their stuff just looks like Very Nice TJMaxx Clothes. Seriously Mana, WTF, stop putting sequins and netting on clothes.

So, discuss your brandwhoreish ways, or bash Moitie with me. But I'm going to bed now because it's past 3am.

Thought I'd encourage discussion...

I was looking through old EGL posts for something entirely different than this using the search function.
I came upon an interesting post about making your own "urban-casual" lolita style. I also came across this comment in reply:

"I truly am supportive of creativity. There just is not much room for it in this fashion, if you want to do it properly."

Do you agree with this statement, or disagree? Why?

I disagree with this statement. To me, Lolita is a street style and should be tweaked to suit your own personal taste.

Mansion meet pictures! Everyone looked so good! I hate you all!

A million more under the cut! )
If you guys could reply with your picture (Just gank it from the ones I took, but sorry if I didn't get a picture of you!) and what you were wearing, that would be cool, I like knowing these things. Although I think a bunch of these guys were from Boston, and thus not a part of this community, uh, someone point them in this direction?

Letter of Resignation

I apologize for the fact that I did not write this right after signing over ownership of the community. I planned on doing so the next day but I was in a minor accident and suffered a few fractures in my left (dominant) arm. It was nothing to server and healed quickly it was just an announce to type.

My decision to leave the community was nothing personal. I just wanted to spend less time on the internet. I know this community is an easy going one and doesn't really require any moderating at all but I wanted to be safe. I am certain silver-youko is and will continue to do a great job and I look forward to actually seeing what will happen.

I've been spending a lot of time with other projects and so I haven't had time to do much lolita sewing. I wont be attending any meet up anytime soon but I hope to see you all again in due time.

Best Wished,
Erica

Just a little discussion to keep this place alive, but what specific brand items do you absolutely hate?

Personally I can't stand that Meta JSK with the doors along the bottom and the stupid cat opening them up and saying "Hi" "Goodbye", I just don't get it. Yes, the kitty is cute, but why is it there? Opening and closing doors... I can just imagine getting lots of confused questions while wearing that dress out and that's something I'd like to avoid. Also this polka-dotted monster from AP makes me a little queasy. I think the red one looks like something an extra in PeeWee's Playhouse would wear.

Feel free to argue with me about this. Feel even free-er to go hunt down some other horribly ugly brand items and post them.

Newport RI Meet-up--June 15th!

June 15th has won for the best day...I'm sorry if you were in the minority that could not make it that day >.<

When- As seen above, June 15th.
Where- Rosecliff mansion, Newport RI.

548 Bellevue Ave, Newport RI 02840
http://tickets.newportmansions.org/mansion.aspx?id=1001

Time- Meet at the mansion at 1:30 for those who don't need to be picked up at the train station in Providence. For those coming from Boston without cars and who need to car pool...I believe the train comes into Providence at 12:12pm or something of the sort.

I do need some more people who can car pool...anyone who is planning on driving and might be willing to meet us at the train station? I can fit three people in my car, and I believe we should be able to get another four in a friend's car. So I guess it depends on how many people are coming. Woo loli carpool!

Order of Events- First we'll meet at Rosecliff at 1:30. Probably take a bunch of pictures outside, then get in for a tour. As long as its not 20 people or more we don't need a reservation. Tickets are $20 at the door, but $15 in advance if you buy them at the website, link provided above.

After the tour...face it, we'll want to take a lot of pictures in the gardens or outside etc. After we're ready we'll go to Breton Point for a picnic, pictures by the sea, some bocce ball or something.....however if it rains we'll have to change those plans and head to a restaurant instead. Will have to keep a close watch on the weather and decide that rather last minute. Always good to have a backup plan!

Please do RSVP! If we do picnic, it will be pot luck, so everyone can either bring their own dinner or bring something for everyone to share. Don't really know what would end up being most cost effective/least chaotic >.>

Looking forward to seeing you all!

June Meet-up in RI!

This is sort of a feeler post, but I really want to plan a meetup for June. An epic meetup. Where loli's from MA, CT and RI shall take over Newport for a day!

So everyone, this is what I'm thinking. Early June (it has to be a Sunday) Newport Mansions, followed by a picnic by the sea...(round of bocce ball anyone? XD) Or dinner somewhere in case it looks like rain.

I'm thinking Rosecliff, because it looks fantastically gorgeous and full of good places to take pictures outside! (Unfortunately there are no photos allowed inside the mansions)

http://tickets.newportmansions.org/mansion.aspx?id=1001

beautiful isn't it?

I'm thinking I'm going to ask my mother in law, who is an ametuer photographer if she'd like to follow us around and take semi-professional pictures of us.

What does everyone think? Preferred date? Etc. etc.
