The Temple of Abzu Deck

I nipped the link below from the Horus Maat e-list. Makes me wish I had a functional printer.

=================================
[Visit the gallery here]

The Temple of Abzu Deck is a deck of cards created for people who want to work with Lovecraftian Occultism and related areas. Check it out in the gallery.

The deck is based on a gematria system applyed upon the works of Lovecraft and represents the values 1-99 in this system. Each card combines art and two phrases that in some way stands for the value, but the deck is constructed so that it leaves much interepretation to the 'user' of the cards ( sort in the spirit of the the Rorschach inkblot test ). Work with this deck has shown that the cards is connected with certain astral experiences and the cards might be used as gateways or links to this. The phrases in the cards does not list any Yog-Sothothery/'Cthulhu Mythos' entities by names and neither will you see places like 'Kadath' be mentioned in the phrases and the main reason for this is that I believe it would lock the interpretation too much. I think this has actually added to the strength of the deck, because the astral links that is connected with this isn't easily defined by any sort of bounderies. If you still want to check out what the value for an entity is thats easy to do just by following the provided link on this page to the online calculator. What you will notice if you decide to experiment with the deck is how closely connected to the underlying forces of Yog-Sothothery( or 'Cthulhu Mythos' as Derleth refered to it) it is. Maybe the reason is the mapping against Lovecrafts work or maybe this is due to some other strange force.

One might ask why calling the deck the Temple of Abzu Deck? Abzu is an alternative old name for the Abyss. This might give some more answers:

http://www.blackalchemy.net/gematria/cards/

Hi all,

I was reading about William Burroughs using his cut up technique on sounds to affect a working over an area of the town he was living in. He basically took a 'sonic fingerprint' of the area by recording sounds in the area, and then sigilised it by 'cutting in' sounds of disaster, police sirens, gunfire, and sounds of general mayhem. He then played back the tape softly while walking up and down the area. I was wondering has anyone ever attempted the same thing? And if so did it work?

Psychodelic aftermath

Hi all

Let me just say thank you to all of you who responded and gave hints, tips and advice.

I deem the 'experiment' a success.

I took the trip right before the I started the ritual, that way when the circle was called up and it was time for the introspection work things would be in full swing. A lot of the ritual I won't go into because it is quite personal, only to say, that the use of masks, while tripping in a candlelit room with all the trappings of ritual, makes for one intense experience. I managed to make contact with an entity that I will call Lord E. here (there is no drug reference there, just his name starts with E and I don't want to disclose it at length), who had been previously identified as the name of my Shadow persona. If you want to learn what I'm rambling about or how I became in possession of this name, then read "Dark Moon Mysteries" by Dr Timothy Roderick. What I found there was that Lord E was everything I was scared of being, and embracing. Including powerful, capable, in control of himself and those around him. I have always tried to give people free reign in and outside of Coven, and as such there has been a tendancy for people to walk all over me. I believe the whole thing about everyone having a True Will, and that all others True Will's will work in harmony with me - providing people follow theirs - and that keeping myself to myself is the best option. Moving through the shadows and twilight in life. Lord E is all about being in the light. Being seen, being overt and getting away with it. So the lesson I learned there was to embrace that side of me. Stop playing the reluctant leader, the underdog, and actually start taking true power in my own life. I did this by simply taking off the Mask. For in essence that is all the Shadow is, a mask we choose not to wear. One that gets left on the wall and so goes sullen and is left unfulfilled. By bringing it into the light (ironic I would keep a Luciferian figure like Lord E in the darkness) and removing the mask I basically chose to bring this aspect of me into my life more, to be more in the light and more seen.

I'm certain I can hear some of the naysayers out there complaining that I could've done this without the ethneogens. This may be true, but to be honest the LSD had hardly kicked in at this point. The amount it had effected me was only to enhance the visual stimuli involved. The true connections came after that I found. There was a sense of 'connectedness'. The closest I can come to describing it (and I'm still mildly under its effects - so I apologise if some of this is ramble, but I want to get it out of head while its fresh) is that reality is like a sea or miasma. And because in a waking conscious state we interact with it everyday we don't notice it as much. I've previously called this the Sea of Possibility. Under the influence of various substances (such as the one I am currently recovering from), the veil that our conscious mind puts up to filter out all the extraneous sensory input, is torn off. And what is left is the impression that the subtlest movement, the tiniest thing can create visible ripples in ones field of vision, and ultimately precipitate larger events. Through a distorted sense of time, one can almost see others movements before they've happened. However I am uncertain how that is proportioned between the delayed relaying of images to the brain, and any genuine prophetic ability.

This connectedness I spoke of earlier came from the fact that the subtlest movement does cause a ripple. By extension, no matter how small one's movements are, how small a gesture is, it does have an effect on reality. Tiny ripples can cause massive waves. And so we are all connected by this Sea of Possibility.

The creativity, oh man, the creativity. The poetry that came our of my mouth last night ... if only my working magical partner had written some of it down. I found that once I applied my will and imagination to some blank screen I was able to project my awareness into another plane/space/ or time. The bathroom walls melted away, and in its place was realm of imagination. Sadly whether that vision reflected some other plane I will never know. What I do know is that for the last 12 hours or so reality was plastic, pliable, and totally at my own whim. I think that this could merit some use in mirror gazing, providing one can sit still long enough to get into the mirror.

The conclusion I've come to is that these substances are a paradox. They are a useful tool, but only to the initiate. The inexperienced will have a fun time sorting flights of fancy from true vision. The paradox of this is that by the time the practitioner is proficient enough to be able to steer things to any useful end, they've (assumedly) moved beyond any need for them. It is only in the direst need that one should have to resort to the use of any psychodelic (LSD in particular) in ritual. The value to the unintiated is this sense that everything is connected, and by observing ever so carefully we can se exactly how. LSD sort of scrawled the connections in blue smoke on the horizon so I couldn't help be notice, but the need for this in a practiced setting is minimal.

All in all it was fun. I touched the Gods, saw the world through their eyes, and have a bit more of a handle on my own internal workings. Would I do it again? Maybe, but not for a while I have a enough on my plate to digest.

An introduction and request for comment..

Hi, gang.

I posted something in my journal today and subsequently went on a renew cthulhu trawl, only to find this place, which I'm hoping will be just the ticket for sharing some particular ideas I've been having. So i'm posting the same thing here in the hope that you guys will find it interesting, and it might give you a bit of an idea of what I'm about.

Anyway, here we go:

Having just procured a copy of The R'lyeh Text: Hidden Leaves from the Necronomicon (very silly but lots of fun) , and ordered a copy of The Cthulhu Mythos Bibliography and Checklist , it would seem I am becoming something of a fanatic. This is a good thing.

When I was a lot younger, I indulged a similar fascination in many things occult and demonolatrous, and took upon myself to acquire materials relating to these subjects; I was never fully satisfied, however. The information and reasoning behind what professed to be true magicks was always obviously flawed and ugly. With Lovecraft's fictional mythos, however, the very fact that it is fiction makes it more real; allow me to explain:

The nature of reality and perception, and the nature of their close inter-relation (particularly bearing quantum processes in mind), implies (to me, at least), that it is far more viable and reasonable that we create our own gods and magicks, than to be arrogant enough to think that something we do not have direct experience of is real.

Thus, I take inspiration from the sources that provide it, and I allow myself to be immersed.

Please do not think that I have have abandoned rational thought here; after all, what we need more of is science. But I feel it important to let an aspect of myself be ruled by the forces that writhe within my imagination, the things that I feel moving almost imperceptibly under my skin. So I continue my collection, investigation and scholarship of the faux-occult and quasi-antiquarian, because to me its more real than anything anyone else has come up with.

Christians fulfill their deity-love need with God. That same gap in my heart is filled by something much darker and betentacled, but no less beautiful or adored.

p.s.

I'm really really really not a nutjob. Really.

The Wheels of Life and Death + HERE THERE BE DRAGONS

The Wheels of Life and Death

“Let me carry you from Hell to hold again.”

- Assemblage 23, Let Me Be Your Armor

When I was twelve, I began having nightmares about the end of the world. These nightmares did not cease until I was fourteen.

At fourteen years of age, I suffered a nervous breakdown when the first person I fell for killed herself. I mention this in context before beginning to discuss pure theory or the various factors involved. Had I followed the traditional Western method of dealing with this, I would be a medicated zombie today and you would not be reading these words.

The very same day I suffered that breakdown, I was also thrown out of the church of my youth. My parents expected me to be a minister at that point and I had been up until that moment deeply religious. What occurred was that my “mentor” (if he could be called even that) told me the person who I had decided was beloved had gone to Hell. He then opened up the New Testament and the Old Testament in the Bible to show me relevant portions that would deal with the subject matter.

The result was that I nearly assaulted him with a chair while screaming, “Then I’ll take you to Hell with me.”

It was not the most logical response one might expect. It was the only response I could muster from within myself. Following that, I had a break with reality and attempted to decide how to raise the dead. My assumption was that if Jesus did it, so could I. The ultimate result of this brilliant idea was roughly three straight months of nightmares.

Why do I say any of this? Because roughly one year ago an exam of my psychological status revealed that I am, in fact, quite sane. This is despite the fact that I hold unorthodox views in regards to both the world I live in, and the very nature of it. According to modern Psychological and Psychiatric theory, however, I should not be able to do this without a nice cocktail of medication, and years of therapy. I have never been medicated, nor entered into any form of structured therapy.

The best answer I can give as to this is, “fuck it? We survive.”

And we do. The contents of this document, currently titled The Madness Manifesto, are those of acute psychosis (hallucinations or altered states of consciousness) using somewhat ritualized practices. Visions have been chased down using altered states of consciousness (lucid dreaming, vision trances, and in some cases chemical aids), psycho-analysis of symbolic and mythic elements, and then re-integration into society (grounding).

I will be using Jungian terminology at times to explain why this has occurred, some of the theories behind the work, and following that I will begin to dig into the occulted aspects of this.

Jungian terminology will be combined with commentaries from such luminaries in the fields of Psychiatry and Psychoanalysis as R.D. Liang, John Weir Perry, and Stanislov Grof. Others who have contributed to such views are Joseph Campbell, Terrence McKenna, and Gregory Bateson.

The Psychotic Break

“That way begins and ends outside of self.”

- The Book of Golden Precepts

An acute psychotic break occurs when trauma overwhelms the psyche and triggers an internal response in which, according to Jung, “the dream takes the place of reality.”

This is normally typified by hallucinations of Apocalypse. Correctly translates, the human mind interprets outside phenomena in a hallucinatory way which ends up describing the death of the ego as though it is occurring outside the mind. It is not actually happening outside the psyche, but the person undergoing the scenario believes that it is due to the hallucination. In the West, we’ve come to declare that this mechanism is a disease. However previous cultures to our own described it as the initiatory sickness of the Shaman.

Roughly two percent of the entire population of the planet (110 million people) has undergone this sudden and radical shift in perception and entered into extremely altered states of consciousness. In the West the typical way of dealing with this phenomenon is to administer Thorazine as a sedative, and then permanently drug the person who has undergone the traumatic display with anti-psychotics for the duration of their lives whether they desire to be drugged or not.

However, in far older and so-called primitive cultures, the sign of this sickness was symptomatic of an alteration of the psyche (or soul) and a means to transformative power. Those who recovered from the shock and reintegrated themselves became tribal healers.

Contrary to Western solutions were the theories of Carl Gustav Jung, who stated that psychosis (schizophrenia, and its associated illnesses) was a temporary problem that would end in the reintegration of the personality after the fact. Jung noted that the symbolic elements of the psychotic break were largely a means of the unconscious usurping the ego and then forcing the individual to look at long repressed issues that were formerly neglected out of fear.

He further noted that during intense periods of trauma and struggle there was the possibility of the personality making leaps towards maturity due to the arising tensions and the need for compensation within the psyche. This theoretical framework is similar to the Post-Structuralist philosophies that proliferated during the early 1970’s.

The Post-Structurialists argued that there was no stable sense of self, but that sense of self arose through various tensions in the psyche which created a frame-work where the individual “I” was created.

In the West we have long ignored these theories in favor of materialist-based frame-works to treat and deal with the problem of so-called psychological diseases. The question is: why? My primary belief is that this arises from cognitive bias. From a certain angle we can see that most scientific discoveries and philosophical theories have been rejected during their own time despite the fact that they were quite correct. Examples of this include the works of Freud and Jung within psychology, Einstein’s rejection of Quantum Theory in the realm of physics, and so forth.

This generation gap between cutting edge theories and their application has existed within the Western hemisphere since the rise of the Church, if not long. There is almost always a fifty to sixty year gap between new and valid theories (and their possible) applications and the acceptance of them. We are now nearing that time within the world of psychology, which is one of the reasons I am writing this and even admitting to details of my own life.

Jung’s theories borderline, at their must “absurd,” on the mythical and tribal applications of Shamanism. The Collective Unconscious is the dream-world of myth, and according to Jung, a major current in our symbol-systems and ways of thinking. Where it actually exists is never fully explained, but it really doesn’t matter. While there are flaws with some of Jung’s theories, their applications remain fairly balanced when it comes to the uses.

In the 1960’s the Psychiatrist R.D. Liang conducted one of the most audacious experiments in regards to schizophrenia to date. Rather than treating it as a psychological disease and forcing patients to undergo electro-shock therapy (which was still in vogue at the time), he began giving out paper, pens, and paint-brushes and encouraging those within the confines of Kingsely Hall to depict their state of reality.

As a result, of the sixty-five patients that were accurately diagnosed with schizophrenia, only nine relapsed into their initial conditions.

Similar experiments conducted by Stanislov Grof and John Weir Perry seem to confirm that this method of treatment is by far preferable to the current in-fashion medicated-zombie notions held by most Psychiatrists in America and the United Kingdom.

Perry himself makes an interesting statement:

“It is justifiable to regard the term ‘sickness’ as pertaining not to the acute turmoil but to the pre-psychotic personality, standing as it does in need of profound reorganization. In this case, the renewal process occurring in the acute psychotic episode may be considered nature's way of setting things right.”

If Perry is correct then the implications themselves are vast.

The Land of the Dead

“The operation began auspiciously with a chromatic display of psychosomatic symptoms, and progressed rapidly to acute psychosis. The operator has alternated satisfactorily between manic hysteria and depressing melancholy stupor on approximately 40 cycles, and satisfactory progress has been maintained in social ostracism, economic collapse and mental dissociation… You can tell all the little Practicuses that I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.”

- Jack Parsons’ final letter to Karl Germer

The break with reality lasts roughly six weeks. This is similar to the forty-days-and-forty-nights references one finds in the Bible and similar mythic tales. During this time the entire psyche is over-loaded with mythic content and often involves a descent into the land of the dead. This hallucinatory reality seems to be made of free, latent mental energy. It is interesting to note that this factor seems to follow along the same lines as Austin Osman Spare’s Neither/Neither, in which a sorcerer consciously concentrates (often while in an altered state of consciousness) on both one emotion or idea and its exact opposite. These two states cancel one another out and create a period of euphoria wherein one enters into ecstatic vision trances.

During the six week period the mythic content of the mind unfold in a journey where the person undergoing the experience is forced to confront symbolic elements of the things they have repressed. As one probes deeper and deeper into the mythic land of the dead they are confronted by various demonic or angelic forces which either force them to undergo trials or guide them further along in the landscape.

The Abyss, or Land of the Dead, is created by the disorganization and disruption of thought-processes—which leads to the break with reality—and is finally laid to rest when one confronts the final aspects of the Ego. This leads to a period of euphoria or re-birth.

This document, then, is about the death-rebirth cycle and the radical shift in thinking that it embodies. It is about probing the depths of the Abyss of Reason and the subsequent return in a transformative way.

The Wheels

“No excellent soul is exempt from a mixture of madness.”

- Aristotle

Imagine, if you will, two separate wheels. One is labeled “Self,” the second labeled “Other.”

The wheel of Self spins clockwise, and the wheel of Other spins Widdershins. From a certain angle, they appear to be two separate qualities and objects. But when juxtaposes the position of sight they are more likely attached from hub to hub. A third juxtaposition of imagination will allow them to be seen as one object, creating the vast and mythic wheel of Life and Death.

These two wheels are our central pillars. The spinning of them creates tension within the spokes. Viewed together, one can see the spokes counter-acting one another and giving rise to new forms of order and thought.

This document is those wheels, and those spokes. The wheels are of the highest order—action and outcome, death and rebirth. The shifting faces and guises of all are intertwined within their dance. Light glints off them and brings completion of the cycles into fruition.

“You are not what you think you are,” is a central premise of this idea. It occurred to us as a discontinuous thing. We found at times we were living in one another’s dreams, and our dreams interconnected and bred this.

Birth and death. Death and re-birth. Initiation.

Mirage sits aloft in his Hells, Choronzon howls in the Abyss. Madness is beset on men again. There are some who believe that the opening of the next great Doorway (Aeon), the next tilt of a spoke on the Great Wheel will deliver us from the temptation and the hands of Evil. It is just as likely that we will be crushed beneath the weight of our current psychic condition.

Despite the fact that promising currents of thought are occurring, there is just as likelihood that we won’t survive to see the dawn. A few of us chased down Death to his door, and sat on the Devil’s Doorstep hoping for Halloween candy. We return with that candy (strangely phallic shaped, and it tastes like sex) to let you know that the Way is Through.

This might not make sense except that: the Abyss is the very same Deadlands that existed within and without man throughout time. All of the mythic contents converge upon a central plane of thought (generating a map, a location) that can be charted if one has a ready-enough symbol set. So we play the role of Sanity Assassins again.

Lucid dreams, vision states, psychotic breaks—drugs. These are active tools in the disintegration and reintegration of the psyche during the Dark Night of the Soul. (With a tip of the hat to St. John of the Cross.)

The Abyss: the state in which the disorganized psyche undergoes rapid changes wherein all contents are systematically reorganized into a location (a) on a mental plane (b) that at least appears to exist outside the psyche (c).

At the same time that Ryan Valentine was charting the Mirage Conjuration from the Munich Handbook, Mr. VI was writing the forth-coming A City of Veils and St. Faust was tracing back the roots of Jack Parsons’ Babalon Working and actively working to drive himself to the brink of madness. All of this plotted a course, a line of thought, that led to this self-referential reorganization of break-down/break-up/fall-apart/be-reborn.

Certain maps and symbol systems, particularly Western Qabalah (QBL), place an added Sephira on the Tree of Life. This Sephira is Da’ath—the Abyss: A digital/holographic location between the personal mythos (microcosm) and the supposedly real world (macrocosm). Once one encounters the Webs of this mythological Nightside they are forever changed and charged with going forth to find the Other(s).

The end result of the symbological-symbiosis is that one may find more and more webs that stack with each other in synchronicity. The bricks form the plane where the operator operates with his fellows. This inevitable convergence is transformative.

These symbol systems and symbol sets act as if they are real and radically alter the psyche in ways that few others are capable of. Only if the psyche does not cannibalize itself is there the possibility of rebirth; otherwise, all one may find is madness. The boons of the trials bring great treasures of knowledge and capacity; the dangers lay in the making.

At the onset of all periods of such distress is the immediacy of Initiation where one goes from the mundane life and into the hallucinatory realms mapped out by the symbol sets. This is causative transformation. There are two roads to this path: the first is self-sought experiences. The individual, guided by notions that something just isn’t right, seeks to break down the barriers of rationality. The second is due to trauma: the individual is thrown haphazardly into Hell.

The choice becomes simple in each case: probe the depths of Hell, or recoil and hide?

The categorizing of various aspects of the psyche can lead to elaborate schema of “angelic” and “demonic” hierarchies, or follow a free-form pattern of naming and giving symbols unto them. This is similar to the Medieval Goes mysteries. The would-be Magician would attribute names and symbols to various drives of consciousness and then energize them through extended periods of fear and anxiety, creating a “demon” from the resultant psychic energy. The drive would then, in a hallucinatory trance, be confronted and bound to his Will (if he was strong enough to survive the current of force from the drive), and thus controlled thereafter to achieve integrated synthesis with himself.

The only truth herein is of energy, psychic energy at that, and the contents that the mind provides for it.

The four worlds of QBL can further be sub-divided:

Atziluth

The world of Emanations (Jungian Archetypes), and corresponding with Fire. This corresponds with the letter Yod in the Tetragrammiton. It further corresponds with the Wands of the Tarot and is drastically similar to physicist David Bohm’s Implicate Order. This is the world of the Plane.

Briah

The world of the Arch-Angels and corresponds with Water (Jungian Mind or the Greek Nous). This corresponds with the letter Heh (superior) in the Tetragrammiton. This signifies the Cups of the Tarot. This is the world of the Territory.

Yetzirah

This is the world of the Angels. It is also representative of Formation and Air. It corresponds with the letter Vav in the Tetragrammiton. This signifies the Swords of the Tarot. This is the world of the City.

Assiah (Assyah)

This is the world of Action (Karma) and is Earth. It corresponds to the letter Heh (inferior) in the Tetragrammiton. It is representative of the Disks in the Tarot. This is the World of the Entity (Spirit/Being).

In QBL there are three parts of the Soul:

Neschamah

The Angelic-Soul. (Archetypal.)

Ruach

The Spiritual(Energetic)-Soul. (Anima/Spirit)

Nephesch

The Animal Soul. (Animus/Goes)

Utilization of these concepts in either free-form or systemic thought can lead into a break-through in such conceptual possibilities. The entity further visualized can be the city (entity-in-Yetzirah—the cities of the 23 Nails/Veils), and thus all things being linked and totaled into the aspects of the breakdowns.

Those that take the plunge are cautioned that they will returned forever changed…

We have high hopes, however.

Further Reading (in random/chaotic order):

+++++

HERE THERE BE DRAGONS

A transmission from: “The Wanderers in the Desert”

We have stated elsewhere that YOU ARE NOT WHO YOU THINK YOU ARE and it is now fitting to explain that. As of this moment questions have begun to filter in, slow, and yet firm. In our efforts to subvert the essence of what most view “reality” we must have clear outlines and tactics. We are, in essence, ontological terrorists. Various points regarding topics which may not be understood by the novice will be outlined in brief. Research for those seeking to meet with the members of the HedKult on this plane or another is fully expected. There are no serious seekers which will neglect aspects of which we are… about, as it were.

This attempt to explain in the briefest terms the aspects of which may fly over the heads of others is not an attempt to insult those who have working understandings of these concepts. On the contrary, their opinion is highly regarded! At least so long as they involve themselves in our aims – for which may be readily understood once the working basis for which we aim to misbehave is understood.

YOU ARE NOT

The concept of reality and even that which is real has been abused in pretext since the rise of Newtonian-based clockwork physics and the body of science which has bred atheism. Tied to this essential element is the statement of Descartes in which he made the assessment of ontology which was: cogito ergo sum. Roughly translated this means I think, therefore I exist. It has often been quoted by bad pulp writers, however, as I think, therefore I am.

The primary mistake made by Descartes – hardly, like Isaac Newton, an atheist – was the assumption that because he had consciousness he must then be real. He came to this conclusion by systematically questioning the nature of things in regards to his senses. He was not the first, nor the last, to do this. Descartes was trailing the line of thought which had appeared as early as 286 CE in China. Driven to the brink over half a millennia later, Descartes finally came to the intuitive understanding that hat sense of self is the only certainty which we possess. By defining self as a thing that thinks, Descartes firmly established a singular identity as the core concept which receives experiential data. Sensory stimuli, then, might be unreal but the sense of self is.

Regarding Descartian doubt however, it must be noted that for Descartes, the brink was something that once reached he retreated from; being as his conception of God as perfectly good would not allow for the deception of man.

It was at least a methodology that allowed critical examination of one’s relationship to the external world.

This assumption has been taken out of context by the avant guard of science. The duality created by the differentiation between the self and the world requires a value judgment be performed upon all experience. A judgment that is only performed based on personal cultural context.

Essentially, in a hangover from Descartes' original conclusion, the external world exists behind screens; the job of science is to penetrate these screens and achieve a direct connection with true reality. This is the same true reality that some Western theologians and philosophers equate to God.

Such duality, with its inherent barrier between subject and object, or self and externality, is artificial. Being a product of post-Enlightenment thought, with its emphasis on taxonomy and categorization, the distinctions exist solely for the purpose of systemization which aids the application of scientific method and analysis.

This is not so.

The problem with Descartian theory is that, while it arrives at the possibility of a subjective, or at the very least malleable external world there is no enquiry into the nature of the thing that thinks. Hedkult seeks to extend such doubt to that level... To deconstruct personal identity through the annihilation of the subject and the object. To us, there is no Mind/Body problem; there is simply no concept that matches either Mind or Body – both are false conceptions, the product of dualism that is extremely deeply seated…

To quote Austin Osman Spare in the Logomarchy of Zos:

“However great your reach, whatever you touch, shall touch flesh.”

THAT WHICH YOU ARE

“What am I?”

This is the primary question found in most esoteric systems, from the eastern meditations on the nature of being, to the Western dictum of “know thy-self.”

We at Hedkult do not know what you are. We only know what you appear to be. We are all children of Maya, goddess of Illusion. As such, it is not enough to know that ‘Reality is Illusion,’ but rather, placing more on its corollary:

“Illusion is Reality.”

The Illusion, the status quo, programs us from birth. There is no denying this.

However it is merely programming; and often bad programming at that. You are far more than you thought you were, far more capable of mysterious and amazing things, and in the end you are even free from the limitations you have placed on yourself. This might seem like a bold statement. We will not lie, it definitely is. It has to be accepted for the doors of cognition to open wide and give rise to a new form of I, or of self. Simply intellectually accepting it is not enough however. Furthermore this new form of “I” is an impossibility in many ways. It is not the singular form of a new identity, it is the “atmospheric-I” spoken of by Spare, a non-transmutable shape that defies notions of singular and multiple, that refuses to engage with what is generally accepted as reality.

This is the Quantum-Self, the (inner) “Eye” within the “I.” It is the Kia of A.O. Spare... That which can be anything and that which is fluid in motion. From this, which is beyond even the idea of movement (because it is both stationary and ever-forming), comes the source material for reprogramming which pits one against the status quo

Accept no limitations and you can be all things, as all things are in you. Or as some put it: “As above; so below,” and all that paltry twaddle rattled off for far too long.

You are a reality generating machine; your brain and neural network are actively generating the perception which you will come to define as reality… Subvert that process and you have taken a step towards subverting reality.

MEME-FRAME

A meme is a piece of information passed from one individual to another. Memes are neither good, nor bad. They do propagate more fluidly depending on their viral tendencies. Infection of a rogue meme-virus leads to a feeling (especially in those of latent psychic ability) of being sick, or that the world inside their mind has been somehow twisted.

This is the fertility stage of the meme.

The next stage of the meme is rapid infection, altering the psyche and allowing it easier access. This stage might be referred to in especially viral memes as being the obsession stage. Next is the replication stage in which the meme is then passed on.

We are currently distributing memes, framed in fake coding language, directly to you. Whether you want them or not, you are either accepting and carrying our memes, or rejecting them and then allowing your subconscious to give them power. Either way: we win. Thus we are not at war with anyone. You are meme-carriers, whether you like it or not.

To better understand the meme spend one hour watching the daily news on television. At the end ask yourself how you feel psychologically, physiologically, and more specifically if you are now afraid. Memes are being thrown into our neural networks without our consent by those who know exactly how to program us for what they want.

How does that make you feel? Perhaps its time to make our own memes and declare war?

Or perhaps we simply like seeing puffed-up neophytes becoming war-like megalomaniacs and assuming this is a war we can win?

THE OTHER

The Other is the most feared concept known to man. The Other is the unknown. The Other is not-self. It is, essentially, capable of anything. This fear on an Occult level has led to a systemic and wide-spread delusion of fluffy-solutions.

By making the other taboo, we have locked it out of our dimension of personal-reality. As such it becomes externalized and capable of harm and destructive actions.

The only way to truly liberate ourselves is to accept the Other. This follows a three-fold (pun intended) solution: 1) acceptance of the Other in physical incarnation, 2) acceptance of the Other in Astral manifestation, 3) acceptance of the Other within the emotional-psychological boundaries of the individual.

This by no means is a way of expressing that anything is to be trusted, or that one should not be well defended while proceeding within workings.

It merely means that rather than recoiling with fear and repressing the Other within and without the self gives what is assumed to be taboo or evil far more power than if possibilities were integrated and then channeled into other modes of being.

THE 23 CURRENT

The post-modern current of Chaos Magick, combined with the writings of Kenneth Grant[1] and others, gave rise to a system of dealing with beings that are essential fictional. These beings can be found within the writings of H.P. Lovecraft and elsewhere.

While Grant’s materials are largely loopy, self-delusional, and in a few cases as fictional as the beings he claims to have contacted they contain within them elements which lead to means of making use of such fictional content.

Die-hard traditionalists have resisted the use of such admittedly fictional beings based on belief-systems revolving around material and external realities. In doing so they miss the entire point of such magick, and magick itself: magick does not rely on external reality. It relies on the combination of apparently external sources and the internal responses of the psyche. This means that magick is subject to personal interpretation and is often filtered through admittedly fictional lenses of truth.

We prefer to interpret the use of magick in regards to the Cthulhu Mythos as detecting the patterns of Nuclear Chaos (atomic structures), and the primal forces of nature. These building blocks which have stacked upon themselves to create the world and unwittingly have created us. The patterns of cognition that seem to appear in the distance can be detected on astral and psychic levels and tapped for both information and “power,” specifically transformative power... The power to become as if one were Other.[2]

These beings are neither good nor evil. They are natural constructs which are often referred to as contra-natural... But they are nothing of the sort. They are, when viewed from this lens more-natural-than-natural. As such they might be referred to as supra-natural beings.

My first game of CoC and I am excited.
I roled up a private eye with lots-o-strong
and power and very little attraction (7).

He is one ugly dude!
My GM said with good fast talk and psychology
I could get the ability of Interrogation which is good
because my guy is going to be a former WW1 vet who was
trained in interrogation during the war. He is a locksmith,
with electrical and mechanical abilities who drives a big
gangster car. We are playing the San Francisco in the 20's.

Nothing like ceremonial magicians who like to role play together.

I understand there was a really inappropriate, in a variety of manners, posting here earlier today. I'm sorry about that. I just now finally got home to deal with it and really couldn't handle it at work. Thank you all of you who informed me about it.

It seems someone already reported it, because I no longer see the post in question here.

Would anyone else be interested in co-moderating this group, just in case something like this happens again and I'm away? I'm pretty lax about what gets posted here, really, but stuff like that has no place.

If anyone is interested, drop me an e-mail via the link in my livejournal.

Call of Cthulhu , Let the game begin!

Call of Cthulhu Campaign
Are you a Role Player?

Thelema Lodge announces our latest outreach event.

Call of Cthulhu Campaign

Join In at the beginning and become a member of the campaign.

August 23rd at 7:30pm
Horus Temple Rose Library
Call for details

"That is not dead which can eternal lie. And with strange aeons even death may die."

The setting of Call of Cthulhu is a darker version of our world, based on H.P. Lovecraft's observation that, "The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown." There are three primary eras of the original (non d20) game: the 1920s, the setting of many of Lovecraft's stories; the 1890s Gaslight supplements, a blend of occult and Holmesian mystery and mostly set in England; and modern conspiracy (Cthulhu Now). Recent additions include 1000 AD (Cthulhu: Dark Ages), 23rd Century (Cthulhu Rising) and Roman times (Cthulhu Invictus). The protagonists may also travel to places that are not of this earth, represented in the Dreamlands.

Gameplay experience
The players take the roles of ordinary people, drawn into the realm of the mysterious: detectives, criminals, scholars, artists, war veterans, etc. Often, happenings begin innocently enough, until more and more of the workings behind the scenes are revealed. As the characters learn more of the true horrors of the world and the irrelevance of humanity, their sanity inevitably withers away (the game actually includes a mechanism for determining how damaged a character's sanity is at any given point). To access the tools they need to defeat the horrors - mystic knowledge and magic - the characters must be willing to give up some of their sanity.

Call of Cthulhu has a reputation as a game in which it is quite common for a player character to die in gruesome circumstances or end up in a mental institution.

For as long as they stay healthy (or at least functional), characters may be developed. Call of Cthulhu does not use levels, but is completely skill-based, with player characters getting better with their skills by succeeding at them.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
