sir_montag @ 2:22am: Babylon A.D.
I went to see Babylon A.D. tonight, and while intrigued, I didn't expect much out of it. I mean, it *does* star Vin Diesel. Sir Anthony Hopkins he ain't. I was pleasantly surprised though. It's a very good sci-fi movie that feels much like Blade Runner with a breath of fresh air. While it has the potential to be the next Blade Runner, it reaches, but never quite gets there. A better director, a larger budget, who knows what could have been? However, 'not quite Blade Runner' is still pretty damn good. Far better than Terminator 3 by a long shot. In the end, I liked it more than 'Children of Men', which might be a more professionally done movie, but in some ways this film felt like a far more real version of the future, if that makes any sense. Aside from a few things that pulled you out of the immersion of the moment, like the use of vehicles in the movie that would be as dated as a 1970's Cutlass Supreme is today. I'm not sure what the future will be like, but there aren't going to be shinny 1990's Humvees running around like they do in the film. The SUV's are a bit suspicious in that light also. To the only question that matters to you though - "Is it worth seeing?" Yes. I'm somewhat surprised by the negative reviews I see online, and the level of vehemence behind them. When Spielberg's "A.I" came out, I didn't see people this pissy about that movie, even though "A.I." is a far worse movie than "Babylon A.D." WTF internet people? What *are* you smoking? Ignore my deluded cohorts and go see this movie. Go in as a blank slate, neither expecting to be disappointed nor amazed to the point of being overwhelmed. However, you should expect to come out having enjoyed this film.

scirocco @ 10:41pm: "Broken" Bike
I got my new Mountain Bike about 3 months ago. Belmont Wheel Works gives you a free tune-up within 90 days of purchase. That was coming up fast for me, so I took it in Wednesday, and they said I'd have it back Friday evening! Friday comes. I go to Wheelworks. I get worried when I walk in and don't see my bike on the, "waiting to go" rack by the door. The guy comes over. "Oh, yeah, Dave (the tech) wanted to talk to you. Didn't you get his message?" (Phone was off due to dead battery). Dave: Yeah, your loose fork, the play in the suspension, yeah, Cannondale says it's kinda screwed up, and either needs to be replaced or repaired. We don't have the parts here to definitely repair it, and it'll take 3-4 weeks to get the parts in. Cannondale says we should just ship the fork back and they'll rebuild it, and get it back to us in 10-12 days. Me: Soooo, I guess I'm not taking it on vacation, then. Dave: Uh..... I'm glad it's still under warranty, and I'm glad it's getting repaired/replaced free, but I wish it hadn't busted in the first place. :(

x_crashcourse @ 9:35pm: Another one of these posts ...
... where I just basically give a really basic run down on what has been going on with my life. I blog over on my VOX more but I'm going to start x-posting from now on since I feel like I'm neglecting my LJ and I've had it for OH SO LONG.
- Started a new internship with I-Site (www.i-site.com) as their Interactive Designer and Developer. This will also last another three months and then I think after that I might go back to FMP Media for winter break.
- Classes start on the 2nd but since I only have three classes, I only have to make a trip to campus on Monday nights and Wednesday (all day). I'll be graduating in a year and making real money, thank fucking god.
- I've lost 10lbs (or more, depending on when I weigh myself)! Hooray!
- Frankie's birthday is on the 10th! He will be 5-years old, my little man.
- I'm picking up tons of freelance projects. More stuff for my portfolio and more things for me to be creative about.
So, as you can see, nothing exciting and nothing worth mentioning, really. Except Frankie's birthday!

kova @ 11:26pm:
I really have wanted to update, but I've felt like I should be thinking about a couple thousand other things first. I have a four-day weekend coming up, so I have lots of time to do things. Jeff called me for the first time in ages. we talk online a lot, but rarely on the phone. I think he's stressed because he just wanted to talk about everything and didn't have anyone else at the time. we're both entering school without anyone we know. he said no one likes to say hi where he is, and I was in the hallway of my dorm floor, and I put him on speakerphone as a girl was walking by and asked her to say hello. I met someone named Jack today in the cafeteria. I was leaving and spotted his ocremix shirt. I caught his attention and asked where he had gotten it. we split ways afterward, but I noticed he was sitting alone, so I asked to join him, and he told me he wants to program military missile systems someday. a girl named Christine keeps coming in asking if I've seen the other Chris, and he's never around. she tends to come in while I'm a mess, and I mentioned it, and she said I looked fine. I felt amazingly good today, especially after Jeff called. I had that feeling that things were falling into place. I hope it stays. edit: oh my God, everyone's iTunes music libraries on this floor are linked. that's awesome. I'm listening to someone's library from down the hall.

Also, just wanted to mention that I cashed in 80 bucks worth of change at Coinstar yesterday. AWESOME. I promptly spent 25 dollars of that on beer.

latindude286 @ 1:38am: You want this Encore.....Summer '08 Review
I cant believe it...... school is upon us once again which means summer 08 has ended! Looking back it now...it was somewhat of a spectacle...lets take a look! Well it all kicked off with my buddy kevin leaving jax for good....not only he was a co-worker but like one of my good buddies, so what did i do....i threw the biggest party ever ha. I mean everybody that is everybody came...The night seemed it would end well, but it didnt, his ex-girlfriend show up with her friends, crashed the party with a sense of drama...next thing you know we have over 12 over people fighting out in the driveway. I felt like shit..for starters i was caught in this whole shit and two i didnt want him going home in such a bad after taste feeling. However ever since hes moved back, they started dating...relationships are complex huh? After all that, I had the option to move back home but with kevin going back i ended up taking the remaining two month on his lease so i can stay in jax over the summer. Shazam!!! Next thing you know, i felt like i was the new "kevin", and by that i mean more confident, less insecure, more flirtatious, just down right a better level of myself. Not only that but I was living in one of the famous Lamba Chi houses.....things were going great. As June was rolling by, we had a couple of transfers to my workplace...one of them was Kristy. She just graduated from FSU and moved back to jax to get settled again. I swear the moment i saw her i was CRAZY about her, though the entire time during her first day i thought she wouldnt give a like myself a chance giving the fact that she's smart, gorgeous, and just hilarious. Though irony played its part as her personality instantaniously clicked with mine...I had never felt such strong feeling since a couple of years back. So 3 weeks rolled by and i felt i ready to be in a serious relationship again....and then it happened, deja vu from the previous summer occurred and she got offered a job she had been waiting for a long time, which resulted in her moving back to Tally....I was really sad, but at the same time happy for her...maybe since we werent really a couple officially it made it easier to accept, though I tell you what I talk to her 3 or 4 times a week and I feel like she cares about me in some sense, something ive been waiting for a while, she really wants me to come and visit....dont know with how hectic work and school will be in the future...well see =/ Well after all that, i needed something great to lift my spirits up...thank god my older brother's wedding was around corner. Now like ive said in previous post...this was prob the event i was waiting for all year long. Really this that kind of event why you may ask? Well for starters I was the best man! I felt like a king(other than my brother lol). Also some relatives from my native country of Ecuador came up and wow it was awesome since its been almost a decade since my last glimpse of them. But really the best part out of all this was just the vacation itself. First starting in Hartford then down to NYC then New Haven, just feeling the difference of the enviroment compare to the south was amazing.Highlight of my year so far.... Heading back to jax was a little weird, see for the first time since our breakup...i had a lot of encounters with my last serious Ex. I know I know, some of you have talked to me about the couple of past entries including her, and well I dont know i guess after seeing and hearing from her so many times....I was confused...See here's the deal for some reason I still care for this girl very much, in a way I only do for a certain people who are close to me. I guess I should say this now before i continue to hide it in my head.....that breakup that we had...it seems physically it went away, but mentally it still comes back...in my dreams, when i ponder, when i hear a song, and well yeah you get the point, the truth is the teddy bear with the card thing...it made me feel good since i know i did something nice for you and for the first time in a long time i went to sleep peacefully with no dreams or nightmares. I dont know exactly what intrigued me to do it...but i knew i had to...well after our last talk....i feel really at peace with myself and us....i needed that, I will always LOVE you and hopefully you know that and I will continue to wish the very best for you! Well enough of that emo stuff ha, onto brighter aspects. So during the early stages of August we were set to move into our new place when the fucking landlord for the place backed out and once again we were back to the drawing board. Time I was running out and the other two fellas were out of town, so i went the extra mile and pulled an all nighter and found this condo. And walla! were all moved in and the area is amazing(knock on wood since its Duval lol). Since i did a lot of the research and other chaotic crap, I was rightfully given the master....its great your own bathroom, closet, huge bathtub,.....oh yeah!! So with that the 2008 Fall Semester at UNF had begun and well it feels good to be back. This semester shall be interesting with so many things in the making...Hopefully ending the year in a good note.... Till next time!

ice_blue_nights @ 6:17pm: balance
Never in my life has organization been so important. I usually switch gears a few different times per day between taking care of family, school, freelance work, my day job, my music, and my friends. Forgetting something is usually not very desirable. Especially when it involves my job, so it's all about my calendar, lists, appointments, etc. Oddly, I kind of like it though. Having this much to do forces me to take control of my time and manage it wisely. All that and I still go out on the weekends. And sometimes in the middle of the week. Like tonight :P Hopefully this is the kind of balance I was trying to get a hold of all summer.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080826/ap_on_sp_ba_ne/bby_too_good_to_pitch_7So, let's get this straight. The next incarnation of Roger Clemens has just hit the little league scene in Connecticut, has great control and speed on his pitches, never beans anyone, and the league won't let him play? Are teams that afraid to get a LOSS in their win/lose record? It's not like there aren't a dozen other teams in the same league the other teams can win against. Remember kids, it's OK to be good, but not TOO good, or you'll be black-listed! It's (apparently) the (new) American Way!

And the Gold Medal for ugliest fucking Olympics logo in the history of monkey fuck goes to... London 2012! Whoever got paid for that design is the criminal genius of the universe. I just have to say the grand red tower of Saruman with those abseiling military fellas was brilliant. Suspended shiny spacemen was full of win. The dozen or so harpies in 60s era Canton dresses singing about the moon, not so win. And Jackie Chan singing. Talk about kitchen sink. But nothing tops Jimmy Page. Nothing. If Led Zep played the opening ceremony, I am fucking there. And after those fireworks, you could probably cut loaves of smog and bring them back in your luggage as souvenirs.

vaderonice @ 10:49pm: Olympics and t’ings
Originally published at VaD3r0n!c3. You can comment here or there. While looking through the sketches, I thought it was strange that I had no Olympics related drawings. There’s so many great visual moments associated with the Olympics. The runners, the swimmers, and the basketball players. First off, a big booyakehshaw to the Men’s Bball team. Best. Game. Ever. The Spaniards wouldn’t go away. Lebron looked like he lost his heart when he got dunked on nasty, but Kobe and Dwyane just kept the whole thing together and the ship called USA Men’s Bball came into port, rich with gold. Makes me want to go play basketball. It also makes me want to get back the 4 hours of sleep I lost watching the game from 2:30 to 4am…
This weekend was somewhat productive. I bought a wireless print server which will let me and the lady print from all the machines we have in the house. We also set one up for her mom, and she can now print from the laptop. Hell, she could print from the can if she wanted to. Man, I wonder if I can hook my iPhone up to the print server somehow… It was a bit of a splurge because I don’t really print that often. It’s not because I’m green, or believe in Ents. It’s because I’m cheap. Ink is EXPENSIVE. But apparently, I’m stupid enough to spend money on wireless print servers. At 30 bucks refurbished, it was a nice deal, though.
Ok. The dryer just made its buzz. Folding and then bed time.
 Going... going... gone
vaderonice @ 10:40pm: Sketch a day weekly dump 8/18-25/08
Originally published at VaD3r0n!c3. You can comment here or there. Ok, folks, catching up with the sketches. There’s a couple things in here that look pretty solid and it makes me feel good as I gear up to do my comic. I’m writing in bits and pieces. I forgot how tough it can be to write fiction on the spot. I just keep going back trying to fine tune what I want to show with what I want to get across and what I want characters to say. You want them to sound cool, but you don’t want them to sound like jackasses. You also don’t want to waste time because, well, I’m drawing the thing and I want to be efficient about it… The worst part of it all is that the comic is based on some real geeky sci fi-ish sort of things, and FAITH. I hate faith. I wish I had an explanation for everything in the comic, but part of it… well, part of it falls on worlds other than these. Anyway. SKetches are below.
