2008 CSI FanFic Awards Announcement

Come one, come all to celebrate the best fics in the CSI fandom from the last year.
We are back for our Fourth Year!

There have been a few changes and we hope some improvements over the last year. We've clarified a few of the rules, made some changes in the categories, and had a little changeover in the management. bjjones has gotten a big dose of Darth Real-Life this year and has asked me to take over the reins, so she can just sit back in her coach and look pretty for all to see. She's still around, and will be the final authority on any problems, but she needs and deserves a break this year.

Please take a look at the Rules and Voting Regs page to refresh your memories about the process, and to familiarize yourselves with the recent changes. And start getting those nominations lists ready!

First on the agenda, the schedule for this year's awards. After spending some serious manhours last year getting everything databased, we should be able to knock this one out with a little more efficiency than previously. As a result, we have a nice tight schedule for the whole thing.

SCHEDULE
August 15th - Nominations Begin
August 31st - Nominations Close
September 1st - Voting Begins
September 15th - Voting Closes
September 20th - Winners Announced

This will bring everything back in line to previous year's schedules, and get it all done before I begin the month of my demise. If there are any changes to the schedule due to unforseen circumstances, they will be posted immediately.

Volunteers
During the Nominations Phase, I will be asking for volunteers to help once the voting begins. All Talliers will receive a lovely banner for their assistance, and will help to insure that the vote counting is 100% fair and balanced, with no opportunities for even the appearance of partiality.

I would like to ask that I receive assistance from all 3 CSI communities. It will help considerably to have people familiar with all aspects of the content to keep things on the up and up.

Promotions
I am going to try and reach out to as many forums as possible to promote these awards, but if you have a Comm, or you know of a forum I missed, please pimp them out to everyone. These awards can only get better with more participation.

Banners
Banners will be available for each nomination and winner, and at such time as they are ready I will post a link for you all to retrive them. There will be a different one for each entity of CSI.

This year I took the liberty of of asking a wonderful artist and friend to work on some banners for the awards. As you can see above, I found the right one for the job. So, please be sure to give dreams_of_him her proper due for the fantastic work she's doing for the awards this year. I am keeping her very busy with the creation of these things, so I hope you all enjoy them.

Hey everyone - its coming up to that time of year again for the Annual CSI Fanfic Awards.

Unfortantaly for me RL has really kicked my backside this year and I can't find the time to run the awards in the fashion they deserve.

So this year - I'm handing over the reigns to losingntrnslatn who will have main control over the awards, I'll be in a supportive role backing her up when its needed. For all the Awards needs please go to her.

Thanks for everyones participation and can't wait to see what good stories come out this year!!

In the next month - we'll be updating the Rules and Regulations, and will annouce the timeline for the awards.

First off - a big Thank You goes to my talliers: just0thinking; beelikej; giwu; mer5; jacine_wallace - They had a tough job going through all the votes and putting all of the tallies together. *Hugs* I really couldn't have done this without you guys.

I would also like to thank losingntrnslatn for stepping in and truly helping me with this years awards. RL had slammed me hard these past months and she was able to help me get everything going, promoting, and just keeping track.

This year there was some ups and downs but we got through it. There will be some adjustments and changes for next year. As each year goes these awards have grown and with it we've had growing pains. But with each year we get better and more efficient.

First off I would like to personally apologize for the delay. I had every intention of getting this out on Monday. We had a few snags with the final list.

And with no further delay's the Final Nominee List. Everything has been checked and doubled checked - to make sure that all the links are working, all the stories were in their proper place and taking out double nominations.

The list was so large that we had to build a webpage link for it to be accesible.

Single Author - Collaberative Authors

First I would like to thank everyone for sending in their comments and opinions. I took everything everybody said and thought hard about the situation.

To start I would like to point out that collaberative authors have been nominated and won awards on this Fanfic Awards Community. It was never about 'can they be nominated' they can and are. The question was on whether they can be nominated in the same catagory where one of the authors has their own individual story nominated. In this awards alone we have three nominations tht are co-authored.

There will be no seperation of Collaberative fics into its own catagory. These group of authors have the right to have their stories nominated in all the catagories and shouldn't be shoved under one label. A story written by collaberative authors is no better or worse than a story written by a single author. And it wouldn't be fair that their stories can't be nominated in the other catagories and regulated to one catagory just because they have two or more authors.

So the question still comes down too - is a colleberative writing team - a unique identity on its own and not associated with the individual authors that make the team up.

Many have agreed with the point that the collaberative team is as unique as the individual. But pointed out fairness to past authors who have dealt with this situation for past awards, which I agree. So this is the compromise for the situation.

To finish off these awards... if there is an individual author nominated - and then someone nominates one of the collaberative fics - the authors will need to talk to choose if the individual story wants to stay or instead put in the collaberative fic. Just as it has been with past awards.

Then for the Fourth Annual Awards (which there will be one) The Rules will be changed. That collaberative authors are a unique Identity and can have their stories nominated in the same catagory as one of the authors individual stories. In fairness to the past authors who had their story removed in place of another story, will have the opportunity to re-nominate those stories.

So if a collaberative fic got removed because an individual wanted to keep their personal story - that collaberative fic can be renominated. Also the same in reverse... If a individual story was removed in favor of a collaberative fic - that story can be renominated.

Thank you for taking the time to share your ideas and opinions. Its good to see the Awards grow with each year, making it something special and part of the CSI Fandom.

Question to the Masses.....

I'm putting out this question to everyone to get a conscenses.

In the rules it states that an author can only have one story of their's nominated in a particular catagory.

For ex:

Author 1 - has a story nominated in Vegas: Series.

Now with the rules this author can't have a second story in Vegas: Series, but can be nominated in other catagories.

Now the question is: Author 1 writes with Author 2. They have their own individual style and works seperate from each other, but they also have a partnership where they blend their styles and collaberate on stories.

So if Author 1 has a story nominated in Vegas: Series

Should we allow...

Authors 1&2 collobreative story that they wrote together also be nominated in Vegas: Series?

Basically it comes down to this...

Is the co-writers partnership consider its own ID and style, seperated from each authors individual works. And can that work be nominated along side their individual works.

God I hope that made sense.

The Nominee List will not be re-updated until after the Nominations CLOSE!! We are taking nominations till the 15th, after that they will be closed. Once all the stories have been verified, authors contacted for any duplicate entries, links checked ... then we'll post the FINAL Nomination List.

Also - please check the Nomination list before nominating any stories. There have been a lot of great authors nominated, in a variety of catagories so check to make sure if they DO NOT have a story in the catagory already before nominating a story.

3rd Annual CSI Fanfic Awards

Hey all.

Sorry its taken me so long to get this going - RL kidnapped me away from the wonderful world of CSI Fanfiction :)

I will be starting the nominee process for the awards on Sept 1st. So start think of those great stories you want to nominate.

I will be asking for help... My RL has really snagged me in recent months and I doubt I can serioulsy keep up by myself.

During the Nomination Process:

I need someone to fact check for me - when I update the nominee list - go through it to make sure of the following: the story/author is legit; links are acurate; not nominated previous awards; and that I haven't missed anyone.

During the Voting Process:

I need four volunteers to do tallying for me.

Last but not least - any great graphic artists out there - help with making some banners for the nominees and winners?

Thanks for your patience - I can't believe this is the 3rd one we've done ... its just so amazing.
