Is Saturday September 20th/Sunday September 21st good for a 10th anniversary Sports Night chat and viewing party? It's about the only weekend I've got free for such a thing this month, my next available slot being about the middle of October. Hi, I'm Jacqueline. I'm a media studies major at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. This semester I am completing a subject called New Media and Society and for my term paper I have decided to examine Sports Night fandom.

In early April I will be performing some qualitative research the form of which I have yet to decide, possibilities include, voice interviews over Skype, interviews over an IM service, surveys through snresearchreg or emailed surveys (this will largely depend on your preferences) the questions will include:

~ Basic demographic information (age, sex, location etc.)
~ How long have you been involved in Sports Night fandom?
~ How do you participate in Sports Night fandom?
~ Has the way you participate in fandom changed over time?
~ Why do you participate in fandom?
~ Are you involved in other fandoms?
~ What are the differences between the way you participate in Sports Night fandom and other fandoms in which you are involved?

What I need now is for you to express your interest in participating by filling in the sign-up sheet at snresearchreg, a community I have devoted to this project. Please watch the community if you want to receive updates as to what is happening with my paper and to eventually read the finished product.

I spent a bit of free time this weekend adding tags to the snarchive community, which I kind of enjoyed (because I am a huge nerd), and which I hope may help a little in finding a particular fic or author in future. It's a very basic set - the general outline is as follows:

category: this includes het, slash, gen, crossover, a/u and, interestingly, llamas
character: [character name] - for a crossover character, the name of their show's added in brackets after the name, for example - character: josh lyman (the west wing)
post: this will generally be fanfic - there's also a tag for meta, if anyone ever happens to write any!

Crack_Van recs, January 2008

I've just finished reccing Sports Night as a guest fandom on crack_van for January and, just for posterity or something, here's the list of what I picked: twelve fics, mostly slash (some gen, one with a hint of Dan/Natalie), and one crossover with Oz. All heavily Dan-centric, but that's only to be expected.
