| About: | cryfuckuwolf is a an In Character Role Playing Game of Cry_Wolf for campers of campfuckudie
I've done my best to make these rules cover everything, I will continue to add to them and edit them as questions arise. However, the best way to 'get' this game is to play Cry_Wolf so you understand the transition and have seen it in action. There isn't really a substitute for that. So if you can you'd do best to play a dozen or so games of that first.
Rules of the Game:
Who Can Play:
You must be an accepted and active player at campfuckudie to play. By 'active' I mean you haven't been booted for inactivity. How often you post there doesn't matter.
How Many Can Play?
This is to be decided by whoever is Shepherding each game. The suggested number is 12, with three wolves and nine sheep, which seems to give the most balanced game possible.
Premise:
Wolves in Sheep's clothing, simple idea. There is a group of people and a few of them, usually three, are selected as Wolves, everyone else are Sheep.
Only the Wolves know who is what, and every night they kill off one of the Sheep. But before that they all mingle and discuss and everyone, Wolves and Sheep alike, vote someone out. Obviously the goal is for the Sheep to vote out all the Wolves before the Flock itself is emptied by a combination of incorrect voting and the Wolves killing Sheep off.
Shepherd:
Throughout all of this there is the Shepherd. Despite his name he shows no particular favor to the Sheep over the Wolves, merely helps to even the odds.
The Shepherd is the Game Master, aka Temporary God of the game. He organizes the game, rolls the dice to choose who are the Sheep and who are the Wolves. He makes all the posts and sets up all the votes. He gives hints to the Sheep and listens when the Wolves say who they wish to kill.
The Shepherd never lies, however, his advice usually murky at best, meant to be dug through for clues, not always taken at face value.
So Who Can Be The Shepherd?
As long as I don't have any particular reason to refuse you shepherding rights, you are allowed to shepherd. I strongly suggest playing several games before trying to run one, however.
Recently it has become popular to run games with a friend, while trading off the responsibilities and interacting with the Flock. Keep in mind the Shepherd cannot show favor to either side! But because it's fun to play as well, Shepherds are more than encouraged to interact with the Flock and the Wolves. And helping a friend Shepherd a game is a good way to learn to run one yourself.
If you would like to run a game, please locate either Aviy or Ari to receive the password. I'd prefer it if other Shepherds didn't go around approving other people to be a Shepherd.
How are Sheep and Wolves Chosen?
Typically it's best to handle this randomly, as otherwise the Flock might guess at the Shepherd's preference. However, it's not required, and all such choices are made at the discretion of the Shepherd.
You will find out if you are a Sheep or a Wolf via e-mail from the Shepherd. Do not enter play until you have found out which you are.
Can I Say Who What I Am?
If you want to run around in character shouting that you are a sheep or a wolf, feel free. This will likely only cast suspicion on you, but as long as it's done ICly there is nothing to stop you.
Out of Game? NO! The players are playing the game as much as the characters are. ONLY Wolves should know who is a Wolf and who is a Sheep. Do NOT OOCly state if you are a Wolf or a Sheep. Violating this rule WILL have you removed from the game.
How Often Must I Participate?
The only rule regarding this is that you must post once in a 24 hour period, or the Shepherd has the right to punt you. The Shepherd can do this or not as they see fit.
So don't join a game if you know you will be away for the weekend or not have computer access even once on one of the days.
How Do You Win?
Sheep win by voting out all of the Wolves.
Wolves win when enough Sheep are eliminated, either by voting or death, that the Wolves (in total) have majority.
I.E.: If you had three wolves in the game, and two wolves were voted out, and only two sheep are left In, the Wolves win.
Private Play:
It is pretty much necessary for Wolves to play in private at times, since they will need to meet with each other and discuss strategy. However, it's also equally important for Sheep to speak to each other, even if they can never be quite sure if they are speaking to a fellow Sheep or a dangerous Wolf.
Thus, in the Pre-Game thread, please provide an e-mail to use for contact. Additional information like AIM SNs is fine.
For private play I suggest either doing it over e-mail or making a locked thread in your character's journal. But AIM or a private room on IRC are equally acceptable. Or, you know, whatever you want.
Feel free to bring up information you discover about someone in a private conversation to others. Just understand that it will always be your word against someone else's. You cannot offer physical 'evidence' of such an exchange. The idea of the game itself is that everything can be a lie, so please keep that in mind for play.
Private play many only occur in locked posts. [Locked Threads] as we often use in CFUD do not function here, as it makes things difficult for the player that can read them and the character that cannot. If you wish to say something privately, you must make sure it's actually private.
Logs:
I'd personally enjoy it if once a game is over private posts are unlocked, or logs from RP sessions are shown somewhere. This is not required, but I'm sure many people would enjoy seeing the interactions of other characters during the game, even after the fact.
How The Game Plays Out
Pre-Game Post:
Shepherd is the only person allowed to post in the community. This will keep things organized.
When the Shepherd starts a game, first he will announce he wishes to begin one. In this post anyone who wishes to join may sign up.
The Shepherd should give an idea of when voting times will be, so that the players can say if they need it at a different time, or decide not to play based on that.
The Shepherd also needs to announce the maximum number of players.
Players signing up would do well to give an idea of what times, roughly, they are around.
Players also MUST leave an e-mail they may be reached at. This is where your dreams, hints and most importantly, notification of if you are sheep or wolf will be sent.
The First Day: Daytime
When the Shepherd is ready to actually begin the game he will make a post with the subject line "Game X : Day 1".
Within this first post the Shepherd will include the following:
- A poll done with radio buttons containing the name of each player in the game. This is how Suspicion will be cast. Only Players in THAT game may cast suspicion. Votes for suspicion may be changed at any time. The poll must be viewable to none and usable only by friends.
- A Time Table which will be followed as closely as possible without being anal about it. The Time Table says when the first Vote will be held and how long it will run. It also says when Nighttime will begin and at what point it MUST end, though Night time can end earlier if the Wolves take out their prey quicky.
- He will say how many wolves their are.
Once the post is made e-mails will be sent to each of the players tell them if they are sheep or wolf.
Once players have found out which side they play for, they may proceed to interact. All public interaction is to be contained to this post.
Players have one suspicion vote which they my cast on whomever they like. They may also change their vote at any time by going to "View Answers" above the poll, than to "[Fill out Poll]. However, only the Shepherd may view who voted for what. But be careful! The Shepherd may, at his discression, share this information.
The First Day: Voting
When the time to vote comes around the Shepherd will lock the Suspicion Poll down and take the two most Suspected people and pit them against each other.
In the event of a tie the Shepherd chooses among the tied at random.
In this new poll your vote WILL be viewable to your fellow Flock. And again, it may be changed at any time until the Voting period, an average of two hours, is over.
IF YOU ARE UP FOR VOTE YOU MAY NOT VOTE. If you wish to see the results, just click "View Results" without selecting anything.
If, at the end of a voting period not everyone has cast their vote, the Shepherd has the option of voting for them randomly.
If the two people being voted on end at a tie, the Shepherd will Oust one randomly. The Shepherd shows NO FAVOR to Wolves or Sheep in this instance.
When the Ousted person has been chosen the fact that he was Ousted will be announced and the entire First Day post will be frozen.
Ousted:
If you are voted out you are OUT. You may not participate in any way for the remainder of the game.
YES this is different from how Cry_Wolf is played, however I feel that given the length of the game never having the number of people actually participating being narrowed down will give the Sheep too much favor.
The First Day: Night Time
Wolves have a period of one hour to e-mail the Shepherd with their vote.
If the Wolves do not have a majority vote for any one Sheep, the Shepherd will choose between them at random.
If no Wolves vote, the Shepherd will kill a Sheep at random.
Killed:
Much like being Ousted you cannot speak or participate once you've been killed. This is also different from Cry_Wolf, but it makes the power of the Wolves that much better if they can truly 'silence' someone. It also makes the death more meaningful.
The Second Day and the Days Thereafter:
The Second Day begins somewhat promptly after Night time ends (however long it takes the Shepherd to make the post). This post will have the subject "Game X : Day 2".
The post should look much like the first day's post. There will be a fresh new suspicion poll and a time table that will probably be the same as the first.
It will also announce who was killed.
Play goes on as usual.
On the second day and the days thereafter the Shepherd is likely to give more hints. He will eventually announce whether or not the person Ousted the day before had, infact, been a Wolf. He will also say how many Wolves are still in play, and may cast suspicion on Wolves and Sheep alike.
The Game Ends:
When
- The Wolves have all been Ousted
- The number of Wolves in total is greater than the number of Sheep left in play.
Winning:
In order to encourage chaos among the Sheep and teamwork among the Wolves. Wolves win as a team and Sheep win individually (by staying in play).
The Shepherd will assign prizes to the winners, which may be taken back with them to campfuckudie.
Characters and Roleplaying:
CFUD is not Equal to CFUW:
CFUW takes place on the side. You are expected to bring your character from CFUD, and all their relationships with them. However, CFUW is not taking place on top of CFUD. Do not reference the game in CFUD.
Things which MAY carry over to CFUD are discussions the characters have, about relationships, each other, others or simply the influances they have on each other. CFUW is a great places for characters to meet and interact with people they wouldn't in camp, and to leave impressions on others they wouldn't have the chance to easily in camp. However, whether or not these impressions carry back to camp is something that must be decided by the players involved.
As for how you take your prize back to CFUD if CFUW doesn't officially 'exist'? Make something up. Say you found on your bed. It fell from the sky and hit you on the head. Whatever.
Playable Characters:
Each of your characters may be involved in seperate games. For obvious reasons you cannot have multiple characters in the same game.
Also, for sake of not confusing the Shepherd, who may be running multiple games. Each character can only be in one game at any given time. You do not have to wait until the game you were in ends to join a new game, merely until you are Ousted or Killed. There are no exceptions to this rule.
It's a GAME!:
It's a game and your characters know it. Wolves don't need to worry about actually 'killing' something, Sheep don't need to worry about actually 'dying'. Thus, emo and angst and drama should be relatively minor and/or cracktastic.
Character Abilities:
For the most part your characters in game are exactly as they are in CFUD. If you happen to play a genius, it is your own responsibility to live up to that name.
The only current exception is that mind reading of any kind is not allowed. Characters with any such ability that would allow them to just know who the Wolves and Sheep are should consider that power null for the game. Feel free to have them be surprised or upset by the fact that they can no longer read minds.
If you have a question regarding if your character's abilities are allowed, ask aviy.
But for the most part, this is a talking game, not a magic/fighting game, so I hope it won't come up too much.
Alliances and Enemies:
Allies and enemies in the setting of CFUW are AWESOME, if you can do it, DO it. That's the joy of playing in character, after all. It adds dynamic to the game. Just make sure those pairings pop up for IC reasons.
Allies and enemies OOC are BAD. You MAY NOT try to OOCly direct the game in any manner that is going to come off as cheating. Now, talking about how you want your characters to get together and talk? Sure, go ahead. Talking about how well my guy is a wolf and your guy is a sheep so help me win? BAD YOU
Also, because it's a game that we want everyone to have fun in, it is against the rules to outright ally yourself, knowingly, with a member of the opposite team. As an example, say Characters A and B are BFF, but A is a wolf and B is a sheep. A may not tell B he is a wolf with the intention of helping B help the sheep win by telling him who all the wolves are! That may, canonically, be what the character would do in such a situation, but it ruins the game for everyone else involved. If you are afraid of such an instance coming up, I suggest you don't play with those two characters.
The Honor System:
Because I respect the people I play with, we're using an honor system on a lot of stuff. I expect you are playing this game to have fun, not to win a game within in a game, because that would be lame of you.
Also, keep in mind that if you feel like cheating, people who are your allies one game may be your enemies the next.
Audience Participation:
None. Anyone who isn't playing, whether or not they have a character in CFUD, is not allowed to participate. You will not comment in game. You will not make suggestions as to who is or is not a wolf In OR out of game.
Please, this is a game for the players and their characters to have fun with. Don't take away from that by pointing out clues or spoiling things. If you want to watch, please enjoy, but only watch.
Sex:
Because we're all horny and our characters are hot as hell and we want them to get laid etc etc etc:
Sex rules are the same as at CFUD. A little kissing or making out occures? I'm not going to stop you unless it's getting ridiculous. But keep it PG-13. If you absolutely must have your porn, take it to your characters' journals.
Rule-breaking:
Since this is a game in the sense that it has rules and times and points, there is punishment for breaking them. It's very simple:
First Time: Warning
Second Time: Ban
That's the gist of it. It can change, you might get banned right away or you might convince me it's a misunderstanding and I won't even count it as your warning. Just understand that I have a very low tolerance toward cheating policy. The game is meant to be fun. I've tried not to make it more restricting than absolutely necessary for the sake of maintaining order. Don't make me regret that.
FAQ:
If I am a Wolf and will not be around in the hour that Wolves choose their prey, what do I do?
Locate your Shepherd and let them know of your vote ahead of time. You can send them an e-mail or locate them on AIM or IRC as well, but the most effective way is just to mention it within the Wolf post, assuming you aren't in a Lone Wolf game.
Questions?
OOC, game related questions may be directed toward aviy or _overshadowed_ the community's maintainers.
ICly, don't bother replying to the Shepherd's e-mails, he won't speak to you.
