Riddle of the ages. How do you download and install network drivers to your wireless laptop when your wireless laptop has no network drivers?
There's never a spare 100' ethernet cable around when you really need one. |

Life And Horribleness So, let's see. This past week has sucked fairly hard, but that's par for course. Just gotta man up and have a better week next week. It's rough, but so far the whole plan 'Don't sit back and accept your life sucking.' has squeezed some progress out of life. Yeah, it's taking longer than it should, but it's not like anyone's waiting for me. Dr. Horrible's third act, to avoid spoiling, was surprisingly good. I expected a chuckle and a song, but what I got was...well, someone else gets it. ( Spoilers Below ) Anyway, let's see. Need to cut back on the RP, I've got too many characters and not enough oomph to play them all. Once the giant Scion plot ends I'll take a look at my Gate alts and see who I really can play and who I'm just sitting on. Sucks, but I need to re prioritize. |

Not too much to say, Warhammer Online Beta continues to rock. I continue to be covered by an NDA so I cannot be specific :P the thing about them not including some classes promised is..well not great. However by the same token they have 20 other classes so..yeah. Anyway I leave you with this |

Urgh. > I think my video card on my desktop is going. If there's too much of a load on it, it overheats (and I've taken the card out and cleaned it out with canned air, but the fan seems gummy and I don't know how to clean it) and I lose all the red tones on my monitor. Even when it's not overheating, it tends to give me scrolling lines in the bottom half of the screen, particularly on some WoW textures (particularly the Quel'danas and Nagrand 'grass' texture) which is really frustrating. Any suggestions? It's a NVIDIA GeForce 7600GS 256MB card, about a year and a half old now. I haven't had any problems that canned air didn't fix before, and right now, I can't really afford a new card, so I'm sort of stuck with trying to fix it. >_<; Current Mood: frustrated |

In need of a bit of beta-reading... So, I've been having a plotbunny gnaw on me since Cissie showed up in Wonder Girl's miniseries recently, back in costume, and Bart's death in the terribly-characterized Flash run. ( This is a really rough draft. Please beta. D: ) |

I read crap. Okay the books are usualy entertaining, but there is most often little meat to them. And in some ways that is fine. Lately I want to pretty much tune out of my life, and not have to think too much when in my off time(perils of a job where you do have to be analytical all day)
I think however it has atrophied my faculties however because where it comes to a book where I do have to think, my brain starts to rebel. As brilliant as it was at times I had to force myself to read more of Fateless(as an example)
But one thing I noticed is the payoff is worth it. Books like that (and Claw of the Conquerer and now Queen of Angels (okay those of you who study real literature can now laugh at me over those last two)) do stick with you. Once I cudgel my slow brain into working again I find myself wondering and thinking about them when I am not reading them, images and ideas that stick with you and cause you to think.
I really need to read more books like that, prod my brain into actually working a little for its entertainment. |

No words...just no words! From here:AC: I don't know about appropriate, but it does seem like the right costume for the character. She should be in black... it's in her name. And leather is very tough... it saved my brother's skin (literally) when he laid his motorcycle down at about 80 mph (He doesn't do that anymore. He's a very good Dad now.). If she's gonna have baddies coming at her with knives and swords etc... the leather isn't armor, but it's damn tough, and it's easier to deliver some good kicks if it's a body suit and not pants. Was your brother wearing fishnets "when he laid his motorcycle down at about 80 mph?" I doubt it. So if leather is such a great thing to wear in a fight...and I agree that it probably is for hand-to-hand combat...then why is a third of Black Canary's body exposed? You want to say "some girls just like fishnets," fine. You wants to make the same, stupid crack about guys staring at her legs, fine. But then don't go on about how from personal experience you know how wise it is to have a heftier material between one's skin and the elements. That's just...AURGH! AURGH! I've tried to just ignore this, because frankly I think that Barbie Canary looks more like Lord Fanny than Dinah Lance. But when someone goes on about how great a thicker material is for a fight and then all but says, "Except for her legs, because how else are the villains supposed to tranq., cut, stab, or claw her in a fight," my inner geek won't be quelled. The only Black Canary figure I'll ever own is the one with the Butch Guice costume. That thing had everything: full-body protection, no fuck-me heels, utility belt, and pockets. Doctor Developer: I like the fishnets, but she's wrong about, ah, how her legs, um, "offer a great distraction ... before delivering a round-house kick to the head." Why would you get close enough for her to deliver a kick when you can, as you say, hit her with a dart from across the street. |

Cory Doctor visits Secret Headquarters (Cross-posted to adam_warren)Cory Doctorow visits Secret Headquarters, and while showing off the manga shelf, look what appeared: They didn't mentioned Empowered by name, but I still thought it was crucially kewl that it showed up. |

Fantasy Vague Thoughts On A Fantasy Campaign Medium-sized city on the edge of a dried-up sea Much of the city is in ruins, itself. Things live in the ruined portions and under the ground. Many D&D races exist, but not in great numbers. Most were created as slave races. Some unusual race was once the Top Dog. Something weird like the Luecrotta or Sphinxes. Maybe a war between Naga and Yaun-ti once raged. Large red sun with maybe an intense white or blue companion. The Companion causes things to happen or affects magic in some way. |

I'm Batman No, not going to the midnight showing tonight. Probably waiting for the weekend.
The Batman: Gotham Knight animated DVD is pretty cool. Different animators give life to a number of diffrent stories. (Unlike some early reports I read, it's not all 'anime-style'; only two really are, and borrow from two very different japanese animation styles). As much as I like the stylized Timm-esque animations of recent years, I'd really love to see a high-budget more-realistic-style Batman animated movie. |
