After more than a year, I'm thinking of bringing this community back. I don't really have the energy to do a challenge a week, but perhaps every other week? It all depends on whether or not I get some interest in the community.

Hello to all of you who have been patiently waiting for us to start up again. We should be posting the voting for the Prisoner of Azkaban challenges and the next challenges very soon.

In the meantime, feel free to keep entering the current challenges (we don't have many entries at the moment). Also, I'd love it if people could comment here and tell me what they'd like the next challenges to be. I have ideas of course (I was thinking XMen or Pride and Prejudice or something), but I'd like to hear what you think.

Again, I'm sorry we were gone for so long and I hope everyone is still interested in this community.

Partial Hiatus

The mods for this community are currently trying to find housing and that's taking up the majority of their time and energy. This means it's hard to make deadlines with anything, including this community. So until we have housing, any updates will be sporadic at best.

I will post the voting for the current challenge soon and I'll post the winners not too long after that. Then maybe at some point soon I'll post a new challenge.

I'm really sorry guys. I love your involvment in this icontest and I wish I could keep it up, but I can't right now. I'm guessing (hoping!) this semi-hiatus will be over in under a month, but we'll have to wait and see.

Since I'm the only person who entered Challenges 15 and 16 (the Prisoner of Azkaban challenges) I have two options now. Either I can cancel the challenges and move on (although I know that at least one other person has made icons and just forgotten to enter) or I can extend them until next Friday instead of posting a new challenge. Everyone should comment here and tell me what they'd prefer.

Mods' Choice: In Velvet Goldmine, the downfall of Brian Slade/ Maxwell Demon is that he becomes addicted to glamour and many of the things that come with the life of a glam rock star, including drugs. This cap comes from a song that shows both the hypnotically beautiful and intensly distructive sides of Brian's character. Perfectly done!

Mods' Choice: The Cell is full of images culled from everywhere else, and the scene this cap is from referenced the scene in Return of the Jedi that is quoted in this icon. Also the colors are really nice.

1 - I can totally picture that little freak child being in Draco Malfoy's subconcious!
2 - I love the concept, and that the maker was able to do so much with the original picture. Harry Potter!!! Very clever.
3 - This icon is just full of awesome, all around. Pretty! and oddly reminiscent of Arthurian Legend. It has interesting lines and curves.
4 - The colors are pretty. Also I just like that song. Love the effect.
5 - This one is gorgeous! I don't know what else to say really... It makes me feel really calm. So pretty! And the quote matches perfectly with the picture. Interesting photo.

7 - I'm not sure I get the quote, but it has intrigued me nonetheless.

A - Perfect combination here. I think the quality of this icon isn't great, but the content more than makes up for it. Clear and easy to read, good picture. How true for Edmund.
B - Badger! It fits so well. It's Badger!! The coloring is beautifully done. Most coherent and good matching of photo and quote.
C - Perfect to combine that line with Rosemary's Baby. Fitting words for a great movie.
D - Hahahahaha. The hamburgers frighten me, but in a good way.
E - The colors are cool. It fits very well with BG.
F - The Gentlemen are really really scary! Gah! Creepy!
G - Of course Cordelia would ask that question. I can just hear Cordy's snarky voice.

Comments:
1 - The cropping and coloring is gorgeous. It's so... morbidly sweet and funny. Also I'm sure Kaylee will be dreaming of Miranda for a long time. Hell, it gives me nightmares every once in a while. It's so sad, it's beautiful.
2 - I like the pretty lights. The image is good with the Pink lyrics.
3 - It seems like it could be a shot from a trailer of some epic yet depressing movie. Neverending Story! And Serenity! TOGETHER! The text is perfect for this scene. Makes me think, I like the red costume.
4 - I can just imagine River turning badass and saying that. This one's just cool, really. Well cropped, a very fitting quote, and I like the torn paper/ragged look at the bottom.
5 - Totally what I was thinking.
6 - Lord of the Rings! And Serenity! TOGETHER! The coloring effect is very good and the words suit it very well. Girl power, booyah!
7 - Coloring and song choice are perfect. I love the cropping, the use of black space, the tiny text, and the dots. I like the concept of River and oblivion. Clear, easy to read, poetic, beautiful eyes.
8 - Oooh, Nightcrawler! There is so much awesome there, and his quote works with River.
9 - The quote matches wonderfully with the expression in River's eyes.

A - Buffy! And Serenity! TOGETHER! Vibrant colors and the perfect quote. The coloring is great and she surely is misbehaving. Also, Vamp Willow is HOT! Green eyeshadow, green text... it reminds me of "Wicked" which I love. :)
B - Coloring is beautiful and the lines.
C - Quite fitting. And creepy if he ever said it. Buffy! And Sere-... Wait. That's totally the same guy. The quote and picture are perfect. Because I love Mal. And it is an interesting photo/quote combo.
D - Who can't love a cross between 5th Element and Serenity? Fifth Element! And Serenity! TOGETHER! OMG it's just brilliant!
E - The text and the image are perfect together. Ah, love!
F - Different kind of boat. Nice.
G - It's cute and, while the quote is kind of the opposite of what happens in that movie, I think it fits anyway. Because I love Forest Gump. Tom Hanks makes my heart happy.
H - It almost looks like a torn paper revealing the picture, plus the quote matches the Angel storyline too.
I - Lovely color and great words. Forshadowing is beautiful, and I like the intense colors here. It's just totally unique. Girl power, pretty redhead. ;-)

1 - I really like the coloring and the lighting techniques here.
2 - It's beautiful, and you can tell she's a child still.
3 - It's beautiful! Plus it's an awesome way to capture the same cinematography of the scene in Moulin Rouge, especially with the emphasized color of her hair and eyes. Perfect wording! Perfect coloring! Just a gorgeous icon!

Hey guys. The current challenges close at midnight Pacific time tomight! So please, enter here before then!

As of now we have two people who have entered, which isn't enough for a vote. I'd really like to be able to make this work, mostly because the people who have entered made beautiful icons that deserve to be honored.
