| Hi, I've only recently taken up cross stitch with a bookmark kit. Anyway, I've got the Golden Kite free rose pattern, and I'll probably be buying what I need to start it today. But after I've finished it, or possibly while I'm working on it, I'm planning on working out how to do it in purple and blue, rather than the current orange and yellow, and I wondered how you'd feel about me posting the conversions here?
(Also, I could probably use some tips on how to work on a multi-sheet pattern, if anyone's willing. Thanks)

| So, I picked up this month's Cross Stitch magazine, and I saw that there was a really cute Tatty Teddy pattern that they have turned into a very cute stocking. I got the magazine pretty much just to stitch the Tatty Teddy. So, my problem is that it's all in Anchor threads. Around here, attempting to find Anchor is like trying to find Shangri-la and you'll have better luck finding Shangri-la. Where can I locate a good Anchor to DMC thread conversion.
Edit: Thank you for the links to the conversion. I have decided to go with all the floss suggested in the conversions. I know, I am crazy. I just had a brilliant idea to do that, so I don't have to decide which floss number I want to go with.

| I'm working on the Buttnernut Road "Once Upon a Time" pattern, which calls for DMC's 284Z gold metallic. I've started on the stitches requiring it a couple of times, only to frog all of them because I really hate the way the 284Z unravels. What suggestions do you guys have for another gold metallic to replace it? | |

| I've focused on this piece a few times this year. Pretty much until I get tired of it and want to stich a different type of project. I've been working on this project very intently for the last few weeks. I wanted to get half finished by my son's b'day (7-22). I was only a week late. ;o) It's a bit more than half done, but I've met my personal 50% goal and will set this aside for a bit. Soon it's time to stitch the ugly rock, so a break will be nice. I was a bit annoyed when I ran out of a color. Yes, I totally screwed up and had to start over again. BUT. I never used the color I ran out of the first time I started. Fortunately CyberStitchers' conversion chart was spot-on.
What it will look like when finished. Thanks for looking. :o)

| After Google-ing and such for 45 min or so I've decided to come to the experts.
I just took on my mom's floss box and she has a lot of Susan Bates thread and I'm at a total loss at finding a conversion chart or even many references to the thread on the internets.
Help?
Thanks! | |

| Have DMC colors changed much/at all in the past twenty years?
I got a bunch of DMC floss from my grandmother, and some of it has got to be in the neighborhood of 10-20 years old.
|
| This website, Cyberstitchers.com, has a bunch of conversion charts from Bucilla and Dimensions kits to DMC, J&P and Anchor floss colors. Have fun, all. | |

| I am currently stitching Lili of the Valley's Just Married, from Heritage Stitchcraft. It's for a friend's wedding later in the year. The kit comes with instructions for how to change the bride and groom's hair colours -- there's the choice of either brown or blonde. Now, I'd love to customise the end result according to the newlyweds' hair colours; the groom has brown hair, so that's fine, but the bride's hair ranges from blonde to brown. I'm tempted to do some thread substitution, but I'm unsure about how it would work. The colours given within the kit for blonde are as follows: DMC 744 (grapefruit) DMC 745 (banana) DMC 3865 (cream white) The colours given for brown hair are: DMC 839 (dark brown) DMC 840 (brown) DMC 841 (light brown) I'm tempted to use something from DMC's Colour Variations range, but I'm unsure if this would work. I'd probably be looking at shade 4140, with potentially elements of 4150... Or perhaps it would be better to look at individual threads... Does anyone have any advice or ideas? All I can say is I'm glad it's not my hair colour I'm trying to suss out for this -- I'm a vibrant redhead! | |

| I decided to give designing my own pattern a spin. I have a subject and I have a computer, but I have no chart generating software. And I'm not keen on buying any for my maiden voyage into the unknown. I do have plenty of image processing software, but then one needs a DMC to RGB conversion chart. Today I hit paydirt: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~vance/pages/color.html. | |

| As previously mentioned, I've been adapting patterns from the Beatrix Potter Knitting Book for cross-stitch. Most of the patterns are pretty simple and only use a couple of colours, so I can just grab whatever is closest out of my thread stash. However, there is one cross-stitch pattern in the book called "The Tailor of Gloucester." Here's where it gets tricky. The pattern is a) really tiny, b) in black and white with a small-ish accompanying picture, c) the pattern uses multiple symbols for the same colour (who does that, anyway???) and (most importantly) c) the colours aren't numbered in DMC or Anchor, and they're not even labelled as "brown, medium brown, dark brown" etc. So I had to re-do the pattern in PC Stitch and match the colours by eye with DMC. I can't believe how long I spent at Michael's comparing a gazillion shades of blue just so I could get just the right one. Or as close as my imprecise eye allows, at any rate. ( Pictures... )The first pic is from the book and shows what the final product is supposed to look like; the second is my reconstruction in PC stitch. If anyone else ever does this pattern, you may be interested in the DMC colours that I chose: DMC 3781 -- mocha brown - dk (eyes and dark accents) DMC 3032 -- mocha brown - md (mouse main body) DMC 3033 -- mocha brown - vy lt (mouse highlights) DMC 3031 -- mocha brown - vy dk (mouse feet & nose) DMC White -- white DMC 815 garnet - md (red) DMC 3348 -- yellow green - lt (light green) DMC 520 -- fern green - dk (dark green) DMC 798 -- delft blue - dk (flowers dark blue) DMC 322 -- baby blue - dk (flowers light blue) DMC 813 -- blue - lt (outside border) DMC 3753 -- antique blue - ul vy (inside fill) DMC 3771 -- terra cotta - ul vy lt (dark pink) DMC 3774 -- desert sand - vy lt (light pink) By the way, I'd already almost finished the mouse before I realized the different-symbols-for-same-colour thing... I feel like such an idiot. I'm going to have to pick all the stitches out and re-start from scratch. *sigh* ADDENDUM: Does anyone else think that the mouse needs to be backstitched/outlined? | |

| Furrygreen had asked about color conversion, so I thought I'd share the one I did of Just Nan's Among the Roses. ( link to her page with pic) I was a bit challenged by what I had on hand to choose from, but I hadn't wanted to spend money on floss just then. I knew I didn't want pink, and I didn't want a stupid charm in the center. (I just filled the center with stitching). Anyhow, I also added a lot more beads than the pattern called for, because well, I like beads :) I just used a gold Kreinik I had on hand, and didn't worry about it being the "right one". Stitched on 28ct evenweave, instead of linen. Floss conversion and completed project pic under cut: ( Read more... ) | |

| I'm being all sorts of talkative because my headache is lifting (always get bursts of energy then.) Forgive me. ;D
I am so terrified of changing color schemes. How do you do it? I know there are some adventurous people who do this. Something I'll sub a color in if I don't have the right one, but I'm usually self conscious about this.
So, what are the ways of doing thing? Is there any proggies out there to help? Just curious.

| I don't even know if it is possible to find a conversion for this, but I figured that someone here may know.
I started a Sunset - Jiffy kit and ended up messing up with a grey color (number 18513). I now may not have enough of that color to finish the kit. Is there a DMC or Anchor conversion for this? I have looked through memories and online but have not found anything yet.
Thank you for any help you may have for me.

| Conversion Help?
I got a Shepherd's Bush pattern calling for Crescent Colours Threads, I'd like to use DMC, anyone know of a conversion chart to DMC for this?
Thanks :D | |

| Rainbow Gallery to DMC floss conversion chart? Anyone? Anyone? | |
|
| I have a pattern that required DMC color 876 - Ultra dark grey, but no such number of DMC floss exists according to their website. Does anyone know if a new number has been assigned to that color?
Thanks | |
|
| Went out last night and significantly added to my floss stash... As I've been going through the colors, I've noticed some that have one color listed and another color in parentheses... I want to go through my inventory and make sure I know these aliases (to prevent much heartache when looking for a color).
I bought a color card a week or two ago, and found I had colors in my inventory that weren't on a color card. Putting them into DMC's site comes up with "no color exists".
So far (new color = old color):
3813 = 504 732 = 731 782 = 781 3760 = 806 740 = 971 407 = 3773 3326 = 776
Does anyone know how they get their numbering scheme and why discontinue one number for another?
EDIT: I looked at my color card again and the differences are noted. I updated the list above with everything noted on the card for those without this info!

| someone on snarky_xstitch suggested i post the following question here:
see, here's the thing, every time i look at a teresa wentzler design, i think 'that would make a *great* tapestry!' and i'm talking about the modern-day needlepoint large pictures variant of that word (although they'd make great woven rug type pics, too, i just don't have any idea how to do *that*!).
anyway, i found a list of tapestry threads online, but i wanted to ask, does anybody know all the makers of various wools? and does anyone know if there's an embroidery thread to tapestry thread conversion chart? and does anyone have any ideas how to translate 1/4 and 3/4 xstitches into a basketweave format? the whole stitches are easy. i think i can translate the half-stitches (which basically represent shading) by either mixing the orig color with white or going a shade lighter. backstitching and gold-cording i've got covered... but i'm stuck for ideas on the 1/4 and 3/4 quarter stitches, and i'd sure appreciate some help.
thanks in advance!

| DMC metallic floss (art. 317) originally came in twelve colors. In the summer of 2005, DMC renumbered the existing colors and discontinued 5291 Royal Blue, expanded the range to 36 colors and renamed the 6-ply metallic floss to Light Effects. The new numbering system begins with E followed by the approximate DMC cotton floss color. ( A table displaying the new and old color information side-by-side )A Light Effects color card is available on the DMC website in English and French. edit 7 Mar 06: Kreinik has posted a DMC Light Effects to Kreinik #4 braid conversion chart on their site. I have added that information to the table earlier in this post, with a little editing to the blues. My skein of DMC 5291 looks much closer to Kreinik 006 Blue than DMC 5290, which the Kreinik link suggests 006 Blue as an approximate match for. In the chart, I moved 006 Blue next to DMC 5291 and eyeballed my Kreinik color card and a skein of DMC 5290 before deciding that 014HL is a closer match to the lighter blue shade. | |

| Hi everyone, I just saw this and thought that it would be really cool to share on this siteIt has a really neat feature for those of you who are into making cross stitch out of sprites. It has a chart that gives you all the RGB values and their subsequent DMC values Anyway, I just thought it was cool and I'd share :-) | |

| Help! I bought an issue of CrossStitcher today and it came with a "collector's chart" of Winnie the Pooh, with Eeyore, Piglet and Tigger. The problem is, they want you to buy a thread pack from them, so the colour chart says "Designer Stitches CT1" and a bunch of others. Is there a conversion chart for THAT anywhere, or should I just guess? There's no fine shading, just blocky colours, since it's essentially a kids' project. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!
I have to say, I'm really annoyed that they did that. It was in a plastic sleeve, so all you see is the "free pattern!" writing. I was able to see enough to tell it really was the Winnie the Pooh pattern, but I live in Canada and I have no desire to buy a small packet of thread from a British company for 5 pounds.

| This weekend I bought some of the Care Bears patterns made by MCG Textiles. They're kits, so they come with their own floss. Does anyone know anything about this floss, like what brand it might be? The floss numbers are four digits, if that helps. I'm thinking that I might want to stitch more than one Care Bear, but I'd have to buy more floss and I'd need a way to convert to DMC.
Or maybe I just have to take the floss to AC Moore and eyeball it?
|
| So, one of my work friends, knowing I cross stitch, gave me a couple of kits as a present yesterday. Of course, I prefer to get some extra thread for all the colours before I start.
The brand of kit is "M.C.G. Textiles," and I've searched around for conversion charts, and I'm just not doing so well. The thread #s include 6149 (which is Dimension White), but all the other #s (6035, 6006, 6241, 6317, etc.) look like Dimension #s....but I can't find them on any of the dimension colour charts.
Any ideas what thread brand this company may be using?
|
| I'm going through some of my older charts, trying to work out what threads to use, and emailed one company and got the following response:
When we started Danico back in 1978 the existing Anchor, Semco & DMC range did not fill the colours we required for the Australian colours, thus we had to have most of our own dyed to be exact. Therefore we do not use a Standard commercial range. Unfortunately we do not have a chart to say, DMC for our kits.
That's definitely not the kind of answer I expected!! Very strange. Now I have to head down to the craft store and hunt for colours that look right, hopefully.
|
| Does anyone know of a conversion chart that has all the colours visible as well? I'm going through all my ooooold charts, and a lot of them say "yellow" "pink" "dark pink" and stuff like that, with no numbers, so I want to look at what might work well and choose those colours. | |
|
| I was given a chart for a Candamar Designs counted cross stitch kit - only the design. The floss listing is nowhere near a DMC equivalent (the numbers don't coincide) - is there any way I can get this, or that I can get some help? Or even a clue would be nice. EDIT: I love to post before I Google things myself. If you're interested in the solution, if you have the same problem, I would suggest going here. Sorry. | |

| Hello, I'm new to this community! Tonight I finished my Dad's xmas gift. Sorry, I'm unable to provide pictures at this time, but it's this pattern: Winter Run. I'm glad I'm finished because it took a long time and I'm now sick of looking at horses. I was very excited to start my next project, which will be my mother's xmas present. I am planning to do Garden Gate, which is a Dimensions design that comes in a kit. I'm not big on kits, but I know my mom will love this pattern and it was on clearance Hobby Lobby, so I bought it. So tonight I sit down to start sorting out all the threads. I like to keep my threads on plastic cards and keep them in numerical order. I'm a librarian. I like things to be in order. :) You can imagine my surprise to discover that this sorting list doesn't tell me the Aida numbers. I want the Aida numbers! From reading the infopage of this community, I'm now aware that these Dimensions kits and their threads are a problem. I like my own organizational methods of managing thread and I'm not too keen on using their little sorting card. Is there any way I can find a conversion chart for their little code numbers to Aida numbers? I like thinking of black as 310, rather than some five digit "code". Please let me know. I'd like to get started on this project pretty soon! :) Edit: I meant DMC, not Aida. I'm sorry; I'm silly! I'm going to bed now. | |
|
| Hey everyone, just back with a couple of questions!
I was just looking through my Wreath of All Seasons chart (as I bought it from someone, minus kit), and I'm highly confused over the threads...
I thought at first it would be DMC since it was a Dimensions kit...but the codes are all different.
For example...
White is 11001 Yellow is 12293
Does anyone have any idea of what brand of threads these are? This also might seem like a stupid question...but if I just go to my local craft store and grab the DMC thread for...say Yellow, and only buying by shade description (not code)...would it still be as good?
Oh and what count would the linen equivalent of 18 count Aida be? I've tried to find a conversion chart online but it has evaded me thus far!
Cheers | |
