Although this community is dedicated to cross-stitch, please don't feel that you have to stick to cross stitch! Other types of embroidery or similar crafts are welcomed.

Please however, go to the LJ FAQ for all Livejournal questions.

There are only a few rules here: Cut Tag any pictures, don't advertise things and don't share copyrighted material.

Pictures of your work are welcome, however I do ask that you use lj cut tags (go to the FAQ and livejournal specific tags section for help).

Don't advertise things includes advertising your auctions. If you want to advertise a community, use LJ's official page at [info]community_promo. If you'd like to organise a swap, please feel free and if you're giving stuff away, please only request payment for postage. Failure to follow these rules will result in your post being removed.

Don't share copyright material: Most, though not all, kits, charts and patterns have a statement reading something like "permission granted to copy/photocopy for personal use." "Personal use" means so you can write on it, mark it up, use highlighter, whatever – usually so you don't damage the original – but it does not mean you can give away or sell photocopies, scans, electronic files or other copies of the product for someone else's "personal use".

It's fine to post an image of the product (behind an lj-cut), or a link on where to find it, but please do not post that you will share a chart or pattern, nor links to "sharing sites". The moderators will remove such posts or comments, and those who post them will receive a warning the first time. Repeated offense will result in banning from [info]cross_stitch.

NOTE: Please be kind to your fellow members who may be under eighteen or who may read the community at work and restrict your icons to a "G" rating. If you have any question about where your icon might fall, please feel free to contact a moderator.

I'm working on "Shimmering Mermaid" (my first Mirabilia) and on the floss legend there are at least 2 keys where it has "[symbol] or [symbol]" (i.e. "V or 2") and the floss number. But what if both symbols are on the chart? Are both symbols stitched in the same color? I tried to squint to see on the picture, but alas... LOL

Hello all!

I am currently working on The Feather Fairy by Mirabilia. I have a long way to go but I am determined to finish this in the upcoming Easter holidays. However, I have noticed something rather unusual and I am wondering if someone can help me. One of the threads I have to use is dmc725 but the colour is nothing like the one  shown in the photograph. The colour in the photo is green yet the thread is a golden yellow and would look out of place if I used it. I'm not going to use it but, I am wondering, are there any other differences in this project? I have had a quick nose on their website to no avail.

Thanks.

Also, how much would you expect to pay for a piece  (12.25 by 15.5 inches)  to be framed professionally?

Sad, Mad, Tremble, Cooking, MrsWeasley, Stitchery
Oh, I'm so mad at myself I could cuss. I used Dark Lilac to chart up the Starbucks logo so I could resize it to a travel mug. I totally failed to adjust the "Max floss colors" from the default of 10, and I had it half done in black before I realised that 10 colors is really too damn many for a single color logo. This just goes to prove that I am nowhere near ready to work up my own charts. I'm too dependant on the "paint by numbers" aspect. I can't visualize the final pattern far enough in advance to be able to spot an error of that magnitude.

So, I recharted it down to one color, and was comparing the two charts to see if I can work around what I've already stitched. It's too much. I simply don't have the patience for it. And I can't frog it all: It's on 22 count Aida, and frogging that much work...I'm simply not capable of it.

So, I'm going to start over. Cut a new piece of 22ct, re-grid, and just trash the old piece. I don't like it, but to be honest, better a clean cut than the heartbreak of frogging all that.
15th-Jan-2007 04:18 pm - "The Forest Goddess"
wtf, doh
This is a question for all'ya'all's stitchin' "The Forest Goddess". I can't find a symbol in the key. The simple is in her hair. It's the circle with the single line going though it left up to right. The line is slightly out of the circle itself.

I think I maybe just be blind, but I'm read the instructions over and over again. I had someone else read the ky as well (in the case that I am blind) but she couldn't find it either. I don't know if I just got a miss printed first edition of the pattern or I'm dumb as a door nail. Anyone doing this pattern come across this?

EDIT: Never mind, I found out what the problem is (was). I should've checked the Mirabilia website before posting. But in case anyone else comes across this, its a blend of 433/782.

I found the *perfect* rose pattern in a magazine for a project. The magazine gave the completed size on 14-ct as 10"x10". I have a 12"x12" workspace, so this should be just fine, right?

Wrong.

I don't know how they figured that this was 10" for 14-ct, but there's no way in hell. This thing is *easily* 13"x13" at 14-ct. Of course, I don't figure this out until I'm three colors in. I knew it was going to be tight, so I tried to keep my nervousness at bay when when my "eyeball" measure while stitching made it look *really* tight. After a week's work, though, it became clear that the pattern was waaaay off the magazine's measurements. ::sigh:: I've got a ****load of frogging to do, and a new pattern to find.

Anyone else ever have that happen?

::off to frog and design her own dang pattern, thankyouverymuch::
11th-Sep-2006 10:10 am - Corrected colour key of 4 seasons tree pattern?

Maybe you can help me??? I just sent an email to the magazine editors, but thought I would also post here, just in case one of you can assist me... When it comes to cross stitch, patience is not my strong point, its a wonder I can actually stitch! LOL! :o)

Here is my problem... I have everything ready to start stitching a pattern by Maria Diaz from Cross Stitch Crazy Issue 76, its a set of 4 patterns showing a tree in each of the seasons, I am using this pattern for a RR with [info]bekki_n, [info]whinging_pom and whinging_pom's mum - cross stitch brings the different generations together! Anyway, I am getting sidetracked, back to my problem, the first colour I picked to start stitching was clearly wrong, I wanted to start on “summer” (the one with the swan), starting on the lower left hand side of the pattern which is a pinkish kinda colour, this has the symbol “$”, the colour key says it should be 3371, which is a very a dark brown, clearly not the correct colour for this area of the pattern…

I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies have stitched this pattern. If so, could you share the corrected colour key with me? Not the pattern, just the correction to the colour key.

pic of pattern for your reference )

EDIT to ADD: I received a reply from the publisher, 3371 is a mistake, it should be 3771!

I haven't posted (other than comments) in ages!

I'm participating in the MSAL, which is fun. I also have pictures of my WIPs, but unfortunately can't find the usb cable for my digicam. :/

I'm almost done with Celtic Summer though! I don't know if I'll get more charts from her, though; I've found over a dozen mistakes in the chart (overlapping symbols, symbols missing, symbols where they shouldn't be, etc), and not just near the bottom of the skirt, like she says in that link. Also, I need one more card of gold thread than the pattern said I'd need.

I guess that just kind of irritates me a bit. If I didn't pay attention, or wasn't good at noticing patterns, etc, it really could've sucked.

Has anyone every actually stitched Dragon Dreams' "Morning Fairy"? I just realized that there's a gaping hole in the pattern, and I'm not exactly sure what to do. It's in the middle of her chest/neck, and since I'm stitching on dark fabric it looks really weird having a hole of black in her flesh. Here's a close-up of the problem area of the pattern: )

I thought it was just an error in a way the pdf downloaded, but the one on the site looks the same! Let me know if you've dealt with this problem either with this particular pattern or with another, and what you did about it. Thanks oodles in advance!

the full pattern can be found here: http://dragondreams.accra.ca/MFWeb.pdf

EDIT: thanks for all the advice, particularly everyone who suggested contacting Dragon Dreams. I had thought of doing that but didn't know if that would have been too annoying... I'll check their corrections page/shoot them an e-mail in a few minutes.

I've a question for anyone who's ordered from Golden Kite before. Have you had any trouble with the fabric sizes listed in the pattern? I just received a copy of the Markos Botsaris pattern, and all the fabric sizes are off by a factor of 2.54. Not a critical issue, as calculating required fabric size is easy enough, but was wondering if it's just this pattern or whether it's happened elsewhere as well.

2nd-Oct-2005 09:22 pm - Multiple symbols
feel the love, opus, punch, Shinies
I have a question for the peanut gallery...

I'm doing the topiary season series that someone was kind enough to post the link to in this group. I just finished Summer, and want to start on Winter. I'm checking the floss #s required, and 666 and 815 are listed twice, with two different symbols for each. Is this a typo? Should I assume that one is supposed to be 667 and 814 (816 is already listed).

Has anyone else run across this? How should I handle it (I don't think it would make a HUGE difference in the final product, but it's good to know).

Thanks muchly!
19th-Jul-2005 09:46 pm - Chart Help - "Mild Menagerie"
midnightsangelc
Does anyone have the chart Mild Menagerie by Cross My Heart Inc.? The color key lists DMC 179 as a color (the symbol is a little black shamrock, it's the first one in the list), but that color doesn't exist. I've sent an email to the company, but was just curious to see if anyone had a "correct" version.

Thanks in advance if you do, and no worries if you don't.

Edit: Ok, the company just got back to me. The correct color number is DMC 779, in case anyone else runs into this problem. The company rep. said that the older patterns have the error but the newer ones do not.

The following is a list of errors/possible errors/problems I've found with the chart for Joan Elliott's "Oriental Spring Beauty". This is the chart that comes with the kit.

1. There is a chartreuse stalk that comes down in the bunch of flowers just to the right of her head on the package picture. That stalk is not on the chart.

2. The tiny dragonfly on the object she's holding (a fan? a mirror?) appears to have some backstitching to define the wings on the picture. On the chart, the wings are half stitches with no backstitching. I added the backstitching on mine because otherwise, they really didn't look like wings (or much of anything else for that matter). *EDIT: They're quarter stitches, not half...which should be another complaint altogether...quarter stitches on Aida.*

3. On the left side of her face, there's supposed to be a backstitched line that outlines her face. The chart has it going around one square of grey (as if the grey is part of her face rather than her hair). I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to do that.

4. The instructions are in French and English. The English instructions say to backstitch the outside edge of the circle, the lines in the water, and the dragonfly tails with 2 strands of gold metallic. The French instructions say to do it with 1 strand. Since French is not my first language, I went with 2 strands. Plus after doing the cross stitching with the gold metallic, it doesn't look like just 1 strand would be enough to notice it.

5. I ran out of dark blue floss, but I had some that matches pretty well and I was only about 1 strand short. It looks like I'm going to run out of the gold metallic, but I can't tell for sure yet.

That's what I've got so far.

Is it just me or are little differences between the chart and the picture sort of common? I don't know that I've had a chart I didn't have to "fix" on a large piece. Little pieces seem to be better about it.

So I've been working on the Celtic Tarot

http://www.angelfire.com/mi/rex/celtic.html

And I realized something important....there's a color missing in the directions for Gogmagog and the minor arcana patterns are not complete.....

I don't suppose anyone has done these patterns already and might have some suggestion for a solution? I was hoping to do a whole deck:)

Or even better...a way to email the person who owns this page? The links aren't working the way I imagine they're meant to...

I just finished all the regular stitches today and went back to fix the errors that midnightsangelc got corrections for from Mirabilia. When I started looking over my Emerald Mermaid, I found several others that weren't in the list and some I'm not sure of. Please look over your pieces and see if you also have some problems with these areas. I'm going to start with the #6, since Mirabilia gave us 1-5 already.

Other than those discoveries, I will be moving on (finally) to the backstitching then beading.

For anyone who has and is planning on stitching Mirabilia's Emerald Mermaid chart, please see this entry for a list of mistakes on the chart*. I'll get around to posting pictures of the mistakes tonight to [info]mirabiliastitch.

*Note that these mistakes were confirmed by the people over at Mirabilia headquarters, and are not my personal interpretation of the chart...I'm just providing the pictures to assist everyone else in finding them!

Edit: The mistakes are now posted with scanned images in this entry.

Here's an interesting situation. I'm stitching along on my Fall Village scene and I just happen to glance at the front picture of the completed project. Well, the shaded side of the barn is a lighter color than I stitched. Thinking I misread the symbol I almost ripped out the stitches but then realized I had stitched the right color. The chart clearly says to stitch the shaded side the same color as the wagon. The wagon is dark brown. The side of the barn in the picture is like a dark gold color. Now the lighter color looks better but clearly this isn't what it's supposed to be and I don't know what color that is. In the picture the side of the barn is an obviously different color than the wagon, whereas in the chart it's the same. Now what do I do here? I emailed the company but haven't heard back yet. Just thought I'd ask around here.

Holding a framed cross-stitch piece in your hands!

Especially the first one you've ever had framed :)

And having it all done more than 24 hours before it's supposed to be wrapped and handed over to your friend!

Happiness is also starting immediatly on TW's Angel Processional, on a 32-count linen. However, happiness is *NOT* dealing with the little inanities that have begun to show up with the project. Which leads me to a gripe and a question for anyone who's done this one before:

1.) Gripe: The instructions state "The blank squares are where the beads go." Okay, straightforward.....except the only blank squares are around the angels where they're supposed to be blank, no beads! From the picture on the cover, it *looks* like the beads actually go where the "$" symbol is. The $ symbol has no match under the floss/symbol list.

2.) Question: Instructions also say on the border squares "Satin stitch the flowers" No reference at all to what color should be used! It looks like some violet shade from the picture, but i counted 20 different colors that were violet or half-violet (damn her and her blended colors). Any ideas? This is driving me crazy!

I spent $11 on a custom cut piece of linen for this project, i'll be damned if it doesn't turn out perfect!
