Old SBQ February 2005
I hope you have enjoyed reading and answering the previous SBQs as much as I have! This week there was no new SBQ question... Here are some old questions for anyone that is interested in answering. These are the questions from February 2005:

On a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest, how comfortable do you feel changing a design's colors or the entire color scheme? Elaborate if you wish.

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?

Note: You can answer on your blog and post a link to it here or place your answer directly on this entry... You can find the previous SBQ here.

I would say probably a 3, I have changed colors in some designs with good results in the past. Specially on smaller patterns.

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
Cross stitch is my main hobby, but I certainly have others. Writing and woodwork being the other 2. I also plan to do a bit of scrap booking over the coming years.

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
Definatly a 32 count evenweave. Also like linens.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
I have participated in 2, 1 is finished and the other is still going. I have a 3rd planned with people I know, looking forward to that one.

~5 I like making things unique and different.

~Tons of others!

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
~I have only worked with two or three and from what I can remember I only know that I HATE sailcloth. On another note I hope to try stitching on velvet someday. I love velvet!

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
~I have not yet but hope to in the future.

I also knit (badly), and write (if that counts).

Aida for the ease of it! But linen for the look.

I never have, but I'd like to. I stitch quite slowly, though, and don't have much free time, so I'd probably hold it up indefinitely if I did one!

2. I'd do it if I needed to, but get nervous it isn't going to look right. There's a reason they design the patterns, not me :)

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
I'm a very avid scrapbooker. I also crochet on occasion

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
I rarely stitch on anything but Linen. SO much variety in color and it looks so good when finished.

Haven't done one and am really too slow to be part of one. With a newborn in the house, stitching time can be questionable.

4. I've definitely changed things as I go... in fact, the first project I ever did (a teddy bear) I ended up adding stitches because his face didn't look round enough to me. I like to make a piece my own. :-)

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
Let's see. I guess my singing is a hobby. I just started taking voice lessons again and I do solos in church occasionally. Also, my boyfriend and I belong to a community choir. Most of my other hobbies involve the computer, though.

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
I haven't done all that many projects, so I can't really say. I've only worked with different sizes of Aida and one thing on Linen. I like the fastness of stitching of Aida, but for looks and feel, I like linen better.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
I'm still pretty new to all of this (a year, tops, but I stopped in the summer due to being busy) so I haven't really looked into it at all. I don't know how it would even work.

Well, I crochet a bit (still trying to learn all the fine points) and I'm interested in learning needlepoint.

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?

I'm really enjoying working with linen.

Haven't particpated in any, and I'm not sure I will. Too much of a 'do my own thing in my own time' sort.

4...I am good with color and would have no problem doing it, though I would probably default to doing it in a computer program, so I could at least preview it. I have also mirror-imaged designs, because I wanted them facing the other way.

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
I also sew, quilt, knit, write, draw (badly), crochet (I'm learning), woodwork (esp. cabinetry with my Dad), build models, and (don't laugh) enjoy modifying my car.

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
Evenweaves/linen, though I do prefer some designs on Aida (for that "homey" feel).

No, and I probably wouldn't. I don't really like having a set time frame to stitch a piece, especially one I may not enjoy.

On a scale of 1 to 5...
I'd have to say 3. I don't generally do it, but if I need to, I'll do it. Reasons for needing to include not having the specified color and not wanting to go shopping for floss (BORING!), and a need b/c the imagination insists!

Is cross-stitch your only...
No. I love origami, too. Not particularly good at it, but I love it. I recently tried my hand at quilling, which was kind of fun. I've crocheted, but I'm not particularly good at it. Did manage a loopy rug for my bedroom. I want to learn to sew this year (so as to independently finish my xstitches I don't want framed). And I'm also wanting to try temari.

What is your favorite fabric...
Golly. I don't know. Lugana, prolly, though I don't stitch on it often. It's so soft, and yummy.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
No, I never have. I've thought about it, but I hate the thought of stitching on a deadline. I'm not good at it. I want to stitch for the love of it, and having a deadline adds stress I wouldn't enjoy. Then again, I'm really curious, and would enjoy connecting with stitchers from afar. I'm on the fence, just haven't climbed all the way over yet.

2.5? :) I mostly do it on designs that I've stitched before, or that have well-defined and easily-modifiable color schemes. (Dragon Dreams' dragonlet patterns are perfect for that.) I'll also make small tweaks if I discover that I'm missing a color, or want to customize a design for a particular person - I remember changing the hair color of a figure in a pattern that I was making for my mom so that it would match her hair color more closely.

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
Does cooking count as crafty? :)

I haven't stitched on enough different fabrics to really be able to answer this question, so I'll abstain.

I have others. Needlepoint, knitting, scrapbooking, and I'm always on the edge of doing some quilting - but still haven't done it yet :)

I love Lugana 28 count.

I haven't done that yet. I imagine because I have been involved in other online group things where some of the people don't go through with their part and I don't want to be disappointed in the end.

Yeah. I would hate to put all that work into something and then not see it come through. I've done charity projects - where a bunch of stitchers contribute - that's a little easier to keep a handle on.

I don't sign up for things unless I know I can handle the work, and if things change I just let people know. It's better to drop out and let the group find a replacement than to drop off the face of the earth with all their stitching!

My problems with a group project revolved more around a birthday stitch group. Most of the group lost interest by the time my birthday rolled around and I had been really good about all the previous birthdays. Live and learn.

I feel pretty comfortable about tweaking - I hadn't really done any changes before, but I just changed a couple of things on my Wizard, and I'm about to do a baby bib and made some changes on that. I don't think I would do any changes on a really complex piece.

I have done lots of embroidery, a little needlepoint, some longstitch and a couple of crocheted projects. I also sew.

I've only stitched on Aida so far.

On a scale of 1 to 5 ...
I'd say a 2. I'm really uncomfortable with change, but there have been times i've gone out on my own...3 ply instad of 2, substituting a color i didn't have/couldn't afford.

Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
I used to do latch hook a long time ago, and I like to sew but I'm not very good at it. I'm interested in quilting. I'm pretty good at crocheting, and I used to knit, but its been a long time since I've done that. Kinda want to get back into it.

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
I like the look of linen, but I like the ease of Aida...not as much concentrating.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
I've never participated. I agree with the above posters. I have way too much going on in my life to try and add a stitching deadline to my stress. To me, it would defeat the purpose of stitching to relax. Its a neat idea when it works, but probably not for me (well, until the boyfriend becomes filthy rich ;) ).

5. I see no point in stitching a piece if I don't like the colorway, so I usually sit down and decide what I'm going to change before I start a new piece. I've also gone back and changed colors on WIPs when I didn't like the transition between colors or whatnot.

Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
No. It's actually one of my lesser hobbies in the spectrum of activities I do most. In no particular order, I weave, paint, sew, quilt, quill, do papercrafts (origami, small models and automata), and do other forms of needlework (freehand embroidery, needlepoint, blackwork).

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
Lugana and linens, although I have a lot of pieces kitted up with Aida (mostly 18-count) in my stash.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
No. I've done several craft-exchange projects that didn't work out.

I'd say a 1 on doing it myself. I'm not good with choosing colors and such. Believe me. The only way I'll change a color scheme is if someone's already done it for me, like the "alternate color" charts in Precious Moments patterns or the alternate color suggestions in the Miribilia forums.

Thanks to AngelSan for the question this time around! Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?
Oh man do I have others. Cross stitch was my first, but I also crochet, knit, spin, and quilt (a little).

What is your favorite fabric to stitch on?
It really depends on the project. I like Aida and linen equally, but for different things and looks. For projects where the background is visible and/or there are fractional stitches, I prefer linen for the look and the ease for fractionals. For patterns that cover the entire area (or if the fabric is dark, like many celestial patterns) and have no fractionals, I'll go for Aida because it's just that much easier to have solid blocks and not have to worry as much about counting.

Do you participate in Round Robins? If so, how many have you participated in? If not, have you thought about it?
I've not done any RRs, and I probably won't unless they're small projects. My crafting time is limited and sporadic, and on top of that I have crafting ADD which forces me to move not only from project to project but from craft to craft (which would explain why I do so many things).

3? Maybe? If I'm making something small and I don't have the colours in my stash, I'll go right at it. I try to stick mostly to the colours given in my BAP but I've made edits occasionally.

28 or 32 count evenweave.

About 3 - it depends on the design. I have no problem changing colours or reworking motifs on sampler-type pieces, but would be less confident doing so on a piece with more complex shading.

Is cross-stitch your only crafty hobby or do you have others?

I like other counted thread techniques; I also do a bit of freestyle embroidery, and some patchwork, quilting and bead weaving. Would like to learn tapestry weaving, but I think that will have to wait for my next life!

Another vote for the 32 count linen - though I do use aida sometimes if there are no fractional stitches and none of the fabric is going to show.
