Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
*waves* Hi folks! I've been cross-stitching for years, but I only just joined this community recently. it's been fun seeing everyone else's projects, so I thought Id share some of what I've been working on.

My best friend's roomates are married. He collects dragons, and she's a teaophile, so TW's "Tempest in a Teacup" was their Christmas present last year.

My current project, TW's "Dragon Rampant". I extended the sidebars down to give it a more finished pennant shape, and I've been focusing on those while I work up the nerve to do the areas with blending filament.

And to round out the TW, here's "Guardian", which I've been working off-and-on for longer than I care to admit. (It's been probably four or five years. I keep getting interrupted by school, or work, or neck problems.)

Creative Accents' "Moonlit Play." My first project on a dark background. This one mostly lives in my suitcase and gets worked on on vacations.

A handful of little "purse projects" which I think are unfinished because I ran out of the backstitch floss from what came with the kits and never got around to digging out more from my stash.

This one's technically needlepoint, but it lives with all the cross-stitch. Again, it's just waiting for me to finish the backstitch.

Nice work. I like the extension on the Dragon Rampant - what will you do with it?

Not sure yet...probably frame it and give it away. I may have room to add a name or motto under the dragon, so I might do that too.

They are all looking great. I am working up to starting a TW design soon.

The minis are cute.

Don't be scared of blending filament ...

it's annoying... it's painful.. but well worth it (says me, who has done a whole pattern with blending filament- I ended up using short lengths of thread and then it was better - it stretches, it snaps, it frays and makes life miserable, but DON'T BE DISCOURAGED... If I can make it work, anyone can :D)

Thanks to her copious free patterns, I have a ton of TW stuff. The fact that I have a bunch of friends who like dragons who I can then give the stuff away to is also a plus.

Thanks for the tips and the encouragement. I'm sure it'll be like most stuff and once I get used to how it behaves, I'll be okay.

A tip I found works for using blending filament is to actually tie it to the needle. At least that way it won't slip off the needle. You also really need to use a laying tool instead of just railroading.

(Of course I was crazy enough to use two strands DMC with two strands blending filament as my metallics for my first Futurecast, and I'm taking it slowly, but I am managing it. I am a bit tempted to but the DMC white pearlescent light effects to use instead of pearl blending filament when I do Dragon Rampant myself, but I probably won't.)

Oooo, good idea on tying the blending filament. I recently bought TW's The Mermaid kit off eBay and once I get into it I'm going to use that tip. :)

I had to giggle in commiseration on the pic of TW's The guardian. That's almost exactly the point I got to on it before putting it down in frustration about a year ago. After I found this community and learned about basting chart lines on the fabric and thread parking I picked it up again. Now I'm doing the backstitching on the border knotwork and about to start backstitching the rest. I've intended to post WIP pix here several times but never remember... *kicks self in rear*
