12:48 pm - Celtic Alphabet - IN PROGRESS
KD

As many of you should know I am working on The Wedding Gift as a wedding sampler for some friends who are getting married this weekend. I first saw the chart when [info]zoomcity  had it framed a few weeks ago and I feel in love with the chart. [info]xinef mentioned that they too are working on the same chart but using it as an anniversary sampler which by the way I think is an awesome idea!

Conversations have been had about the alphabet that was included in the chart. Personally I like the alphabet provided in the chart but I didn’t think that it matched with the feel of the rest of the design. So I made my own. I used this lowercase celtic alphabet and this uppercase celtic alphabet as a guide.

I have not yet finished putting the alphabet together but I thought I would pass on my progress of charting it out. I have included an image of the chart below the cut. Or you can access it here in spreadsheet form (much easier for manipulating). You may want to export it into Microsoft Excel so that you can change the cells to look square. Once you are in Excel press Ctrl+A to select all and then use your mouse to drag the column dimension to 8 or 9 pixels and do the same to the row dimension. This will change all the rows and columns to be tiny little squares.

Please let me know what you think of the chart. And if you do decide to use it and make any of the uppercase letters please feel free to share them and I will add them to the master file. Once we have a full alphabet I will post it back here again for all to use.

Think of it as a community built alphabet.

rainbow threads
I simply haven't had a spare second to myself lately, and what has suffered? My cross stitch of course. But I've suddenly realized that fair time is looming and I'd better get it in gear. I had a piece I'd semi-started so I picked it back up. Lady Liberty and I'm doing her on linen.

Oh and I have a little "side" project I might try to get done too. Anyone ever worked with wisper threads? They look like a pain in the butt, but it would add a lot to the piece.

As a huge fan of My Aunt's Attic , I was extremely disappointed to read the latest news on the page...

I just can't believe anyone would decide to charge for charts that are available for free. :-(

And now, unfortunately, the person responsible for My Aunt's Attic has to go through the time and trouble to put up copyright info.

Harumph.
05:31 pm - Susan Bates

After Google-ing and such for 45 min or so I've decided to come to the experts.

I just took on my mom's floss box and she has a lot of Susan Bates thread and I'm at a total loss at finding a conversion chart or even many references to the thread on the internets.

Help?

Thanks!
