New fractal with a twist
Hey everybody! Long time no stitch :)

I was just over at Cross Stitch Collectibles and saw something really interesting. Ever wanted to do a fractal and been daunted by the twenty page charts? Well be daunted no more. Or maybe not as daunted.

Introducing the fractal BOOKMARK

A bookmark fractal. I had to blink twice to make sure I was seeing that correctly. Then I clicked on the download button. A bookmark charted on SIX pages. Six. A bookmark. The floss list is huge. It's 75WX200H. Most of the books I read aren't big enough to hold the sucker, but it's looks like it would be fun to do.

In other cross stitch news for me, I haven't been stitching at all lately. I did frame my Titanic piece. (If you want to see pics, my craft journal is [info]needlegeek) I haven't finished the Cross Stitch Magazine mystery stitch from last year because it's not a mystery any more and I'm not that into birds. My big fractal is about three inches short of being wide enough so I haven't worked on it. I've almost finished the January cat I started last July. I lost the tea pot I was making for my mom. I've looked everywhere. It had billions of little fractional stitches and I don't like her that much so it may have been something subliminal in the losing.

Speaking of Cross Stitch Magazine - is any one else as disappointed as I've been in their recent offerings? I haven't seen a single thing I'd like to stitch in a while from them. Anybody know of a better magazine out there to reignite my passion?

I've been feeling the need to stitch lately, but nothing in my stash is appealing to me. I've had that nasty cold that's been making the rounds and I'm afraid to work on one of my bigger pieces for fear of making mistakes. Maybe I'll pull out a mini.

Anyway, happy stitching everybody :)

I've been really loving the online magazine The Gift of Stitching, which I think has a great variety of different projects. It's only $1/issue if you buy a 2-year subscription and not that much more (maybe $3/issue?) if you buy only for a year. You can also get back-issues in bundles or separately.

Not affiliated, etc., just a happy customer!

The UK x-stitch mags are decent too, although I don't have subscriptions to them and I don't know what prices are like in USD since I buy them here in the UK. Cross Stitcher and Cross Stitch Gold are both good, although I find their projects to be cutesier than my taste for the most part.

Actually, TGOS only $15 for a one-year subscription. Even better!

It's a much smaller project but I'm still daunted by the 90 colors for the project. I would stitch it on black, so I'll be able to drop out the black, but I'm definitely a 14/18-count gal so it would still end up being pretty large.

I've just got to motivate myself enough from my knitting to get back to cross-stitching. Hee!

I did one of the calculator things.

On 14 count with a 1" border and an extra 1" for finishing, this would be 5 1/8 x 14 1/4. Jeez.

Maybe it would be better as a bellpull or wall hanging? LOL

Yeah. To get it down to bookmark-size, you'd have to do it over-one on 28 count, with 32 maybe being better. At a 'normal' count, calling it a bookmark is maybe a little misleading.

Over one on 28 count = Blind Susie. LOL

Oy. I'd be squinting for days!

I've just been poking around The Gift of Stitching's website and I must say I'm very impressed. I'll have to follow y'all's lead and sign on.

I regularly buy all the UK magazines every month and also some of the American magazines too for over twelve years now and still can't get enough of them!!

Worse still is all the freebie designs I seem to download (since February this year) and fill five A4 level arch files to date!

Too many projects and not enough time to do them all!! Oh well...
